Thanks a lot Stephan! Not a DLR player myself, but this knowledge will come in handy for passing as well.

well done sir. De La Riva is my "go to" guard and it was good to see a little bit of logic being thrown at the grip variations

Great video! Every time I watch a clip like this I just want to hit the gym and experiment. Wish I had a big room with a mat in my house... and a partner always on standby to roll. :)

Not sure if you'll see this! But what do I do if my opponent keeps pushing of or getting grips on f my nonhooked leg?
@diabolic42090

do you know why some people prefer a deep overhook on the leg rather than just holding the foot? I've been trying to understand what i believe to be the 4 main leg grips while playing DLR (gripping the foot/ankle, gripping the pant, underhooking the leg, and deeply overhooking the leg) but I'm not sure I understand the reasoning for the deep overhook.

the delariva guard is traditionally an open guard with the sleeves grip, Delariva just so happened to hook the opponents leg because of his freakish flexibility like that of jeff glover.....look at delariva vids and he tends to do his guard beginning with the sleeves grips and opponent is passing low....

The Dela Riva guard is my favorite Judo technique. The Japanese came up with it decades before Dela Riva picked up Jiujitsu ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-IKgNJkThVVQ.html

Dude where is Richie, your videos are not the same without him. You guys are like Abott and Costello, like Chich and Chong. Better together.
