And without her he's completely regressed into state of deep depression There 20 year age gap didn't feel or come across as predatory. Because with Daryl past abuse emotionally and mentally stunting him, he's underdeveloped and is basically the same age mentally as Beth it's a case of Chronology .vs. Biology 🧬 what indicates maturity? Daryl has never experience romantic or intimate relationship. So it was never a case of a older man taken advantage of a younger girl when there both equally inexperienced and on there journey of discovery together. And it's clear he's not having random hook ups, the guy doesn't even like to be touched. he has no experience or awareness of physical intimacy or how to deal with it. it said it all when Beth hugged him season 4 episode 1. And its evident Beth would taking the lead on all physical intimacy's in the begging. if Daryl has experience something sexual it was probably something traumatic like one of his dad's hooker girlfriend molesting him as a child. Some perverted friend of his dad who like to touch little boys. Or Merle forcing pressuring or drugging him into something he didn't really want. Merle idea of helping is pretty much abuse. Daryl in those two episode STILL and ALONE proved he's the type of soul that seeks emotional connection in order to feel comfortable enough to explore physical pleasure and Beth's the same, personality wise there complete opposite but emotionally/spiritually there the same. They seek deeper connects to evolve intimately, they both established there not there siblings Daryl isn't Merle and Beth isn't Maggie there not a free with there bodies cause there different people. Daryl wouldn't initiate physical contact with other characters not until after his character development with Beth he huge Carol and puts his head on her shoulder when they reunite. When other character like Carol or Rick try to touch Daryl they always did cautiously like approaching a wild animal. Beth bulldozes over his boundaries and his force field. She see's who he is she knows him and trusts him implicitly. she has since the day he held Judith, none of his defence mechanism work on her. All his grunts and shrugs. don't deter her and you can see its completely baffling and intoxicating to him. Beth and Daryl are Beauty and the Beast a tale as old as time when you fall in love in the most unexpected of ways and when you least expect it. The scene on the funeral home where she sang to him and he told her to keep playing. was pretty similar to Belle reading to Beast and him asking to read again, with beast have having the same struggle as Daryl being cursed he never got the chance to mentally develop properly, hence why all the tantrums and angry outburst. They were as close to a fairytale as walking dead was ever gonna get. Beth did the same , asking if Daryl was with the group who had come for her. Daryl doesn't hesitate to kill Dawn when her knee jerk reaction kills Beth. The look of utter shock, disbelief, devastation and rage on his face is palatable. But a little piece of TWD died with Beth. Daryl never got as interesting as he was in season 4 ever again; no love interest will ever match the potential he had with Beth; and no sweet wholesome female lead will ever bring what Beth did to the show. It's a weird thing for me to say this, but... I've shipped Normily/Bethyl since season 2. It was just the fact that they were so different, him being so loud, a survivalist, and confrontational. While Beth was so quiet, sweet, and mentally weak... I just love them.
They need to give these two a chance in the show,seriously they have such great chemistry and it would be so great for the development of the characters cause whatever it was they felt for each other was so unexpected and real and new to them and after all the heartbreak they both went through especially Daryl,they deserve something good and i just want to see it happen, i think it would be so good!!!

I am crying so much. Their story is perfect, because it's never gonna be ruined, they'll never fight or break up. They never even got to kissed, or simply told each other what they were feeling, but they both knew it. It was all so pure, so angelic, so beautiful. I'm just so sad for Daryl, because for the first time in his life, for the FIRST time he ever let himself to believe he wasn't just nobody, nothing, that he was someone who mattered, that he was entitled to happiness too, and he never even knew he could deserve to be happy. She was his light. And he was so closed and wild before, and she cracked him open and saw right through his soul, he let himself love, and now it's hurting even more than before, when at least he was wearing all his shields and armor, so even losing Merle was ok, he cried a bit and then went back, because he never let himself feel anything. But she made him understand that you can feel something good, that not everything you let yourself feel is going to hurt. And he believed her. And then his heart was torn apart. I don't know if he's ever gonna come back from this. I loved them together so much. I don't understand how anybody saw their relationship as a brother sister type. The way they looked at each other and all, also the last scene before she was taken was very telling on how he felt about beth.
I cant believe Beth died! I seriously shed a tear and yelled at the screen when she got shot. She was my favorite character. She brought an innocence and humanity to an otherwise beastly world.
Beth dying is kinda why I forget season 5 even happened, because the whole season was so damn depressing. And that moment when Beth asks him what his changed his mind and he just looks at her, that can be read a dozen different ways, but I kinda read it as ‘You changed my mind, because I probably will miss you when you’re gone’. I think if Beth lived, she and Daryl would maybe be together.

I'm not really hoping for anything past a reunion between them, but more because they just made such great partners, you know? When you need and understand someone at the deepest level like they do with each other, it forms a powerful connection that is nigh on impossible to undo. I fully believe that Daryl and Beth love each other. Just because that doesn't necessarily mean that they're in love with each other, it doesn't take away from that wonderful, unshakeable connection.
I think it could have led to a romantic relationship. They were definitely leaning toward that in episode Alone.(the scene at the kitchen table) and I think it would be a really compelling relationship to watch blossom, but alas the writers pu**yied out once they heard the backlash from various media talking about age and incestuous relationship (which makes no sense) and it probably made the actors uncomfortable and maybe they were worried about advertisers so now they just scrapped the idea. Kill her off and end it. Lame.

I love Beth her character, her personality and everything and when I saw her death I actually cried so 2 years later when I created my fanfic on the show I made her lived and in fact in my head canon, Beth lived to the current season of the show and her and Daryl had 4 kids and living a happy life
I thought I would be ok watching this but I am not. I started crying right away. The writers made such a mistake. Beth was so amazing, she came so far and for what? she is gone. That is EXACTLY how it felt watching it! EXACTLY! Best description of my feelings about this ever! Still so sad over it. I understand why they had to do it, for what has happened since, but I'm still sad over it. That was absolutely my favorite half-season so far!
I know this was a few years ago but still come back to this I just like a fair few of these comments. I don't know this show Beth Daryl all of these characters gave me hope in a sense I guess they gave a lot of people hope and learned from watching this show exactly what Beth said when you care about people hurt is part of the package but like the show itself and all the characters in it encouraged hope and I think that can be a reason for anyone to keep going at least we have the memories of the ones we love even if they're not with us and that's what the walking dead show brings hope resilience family and equality. Cuz family can be anyone that we feel close with a friend a neighbor anyone and whoever might feel the same way or they might feel friends not family which is just as good cheers to the whole walking dead cast alive and deceased and to all the writers producers directors and anyone else who made the show

@GABRIELLE OLLER Actually that was retconned. Just like Carl, Beth ages faster than the show's timeline, cuz she was supposed to be 15 or so in S2, but by the time they reach Alexandria it's only been a year and a half since the outbreak.

I love this couple both in the series and out in real life. They totally compliment each other very well. And..oh.. the turtle shell Norman secretly took from the set in "Alone", he wrote "Beth+Daryl" on it and gave to Emily as a gift, that gesture is sooooooo sweet!
At first I wanted Carol to be with him but the development with Daryl and Beth grew them both up. Beth was the pampered rich girl and Daryl the neglected from a dysfunctional family and Crazy brother. Daryl learned what real family was. Beth got real strenght.

I really can't count how many times I've watched this video of Daryl and Beth. I am so into this couple. I've never liked any other characters on TV series before as much as I love this two. I hope Bethyl could happen but if not, it would be enough that they could just be together, alive and well.
I have never cried so much when a tv character died, and the episode with Beth and Daryl going off alone was the reason! I don't think they intended a hook-up storyline but that's what makes it so much sadder - it felt possible after that episode. And it wasn't just a hook-up - he seemed to really see her in a different light and so did the audience.

Through the episodes of hardships and struggles the way they bonded and were there for each other made me fall in love with this show. It was beyond "a stupid zombie show". It was about life, survival and loyalty. The action and characters were as real as it got. Weather the outcomes were different per character...the love would've been the same. Thank you for this show will always be in my heart.

I love that 2:58 part...so yes, Beth isnt like the other TWD girls, she doesnt look all tough and wild, but she is strong and she survived, and most of all, she stays true to herself, just for those things It would be nice to see Daryl and Beth together, she can grow with him and he can learn from her on the emotional side as well. it isn't her. don't want to spoiler but if you do a little research you will find out that a main male character dies later in the comics. so since they said they wanted the tv show closer to the storyline told in the comics this season, maybe they're following this death too. but i hope not :( i like him

Also pointing out that Coda means the concluding of an event. But here's a twist, in Latin it means tail, and if you remember that episode when Daryl only got half of a squirrel and the guy said, something like "missing a tail" which the tail was supposed to be Beth, so I guess coda meant the reuniting of the head and the tail (Daryl and Beth) and like in the show where Daryl got the other half of his squirrel, the two parts didn't stay together. Nice job directors for adding so much meaning and references to episodes that are seasons apart.
I love this so much. I don't particularly care if they date or not, but I really adore watching their friendship and how sweet they are to each other. I have a guy friend that treats me like a princess with no ulterior motive, even tho I have a bf so it's totally possible for them just to be friends. And it's perfect because if Bethyl happens, I hear so many actors say it's easier to film romantic scenes with someone you trust. And it's obvious they've grown to trust each other as actors and as people, so it would be a truly beautiful thing to behold, very honest and true-to-character.
Carol is crazy she told a boy she would tie a boy to a tree and let the monsters come and eat him. Beth would never had said that to a child or an adult and it doesn't matter about the age.

And she died for Noah. She had a very good heart. And I'm sooo sad. That's maybe stupid but when I see the serie now, I'm always mournful because I really want to see Beth. She deserve to be alive. But nevertheless The walking dead still on of my favourite series.

I actually really like Norman's notes on the relationship between Daryl and Beth. You've gotta respect the love and detail he puts into his character. This really makes me wanna see a bunch of AU series, maybe like a different AU every episode. Hell, if they wanna milk out the TWD universe I'm sure so many people would be down to see that. Imagine: Glenn survived and he and Maggie fought the saviors and lived happily ever after, or Carl never died, or Shane didn't, or Rick never left, literally so many fking options!
Some people hate that they killed Beth when they did. But it truly is romantic. Because life is like that. One day you feel like you have true happiness and joy. And then just as you’re suddenly starting to realize it, and let it in, suddenly it’s gone in an instant. And only once it’s gone do you realize how special it truly was. And you chase after it. But you never find it again. Beth’s prophecy to Daryl was both a statement of adoration and also a curse. “You’re gonna be the Last Man Standing...” Daryl is cursed to be the Last Man Standing. To lose everything and everyone, and be the last one there at the end, going on adrenaline and instinct. Everything and everyone he loved, gone. And yet he persists because it is in his nature. His deepest soul. He endures. But I doubt he will ever feel a loss as painful as Beth ever again...
No one knows who will die except the cast, crew and producers. But I predict that if Daryl and Beth form a romantic relationship, Beth will die eventually. We saw Rick snap. Daryl losing it would be far greater for the show. Not that I want Glen to die, I'd also be curious to see Maggie go crazy. Even Beth, but I'm sure Daryl is a character the writers can't and won't lose. This is all based on speculation of character development.
