Shanghai is definitely the most international city in China. I wouldn't say it's particularly overwhelming other than the fact there are sooo many people (as with most places in China) and the fact that it's in China (a country which can be very overwhelming in itself). you should definitely visit if you get the chance!
hi! I would connect your UK bank card to WeChat or Alipay -- there are a few businesses that don't accept WeChat/Alipay payments using a foreign card but, on the whole, you shouldn't have any issues. I very, very rarely use cash here
one question tho: which vpn are you using in china? because i'm thinking about going to study there for a semester for my college degree in 3 years as well
