my pop started out driving log truck in the mountains of Northern California back in 67.I went with him on a few runs when i was 7 years old and that was a blast. He rolled it of a 500 foot canyon one day in 75 and that was enough for him.He was 22 at the time. He's had a few accidents since then but been a driver for 46 years.Hauls wood chips up in northern California now,In and out of Redding California and White city Oregon. He is the best.He hasn't had an accident since the 70s.I love my dad.
you're an awesome kid then haha. are you a son or a daughter? It probably doesn't matter but I ask anyway. im a son. my old man isn't a trucker but my brother is. he retired from driving recently he's only 34 but he wants to do other things. im trying to be a trucker for ups but they're making it really hard for me. ill probably eventually go over the road somewhere else. California, Oregon, Washington are dream drives for me. definitely want to drive through there. im in NJ and there isn't many rural woodsy areas here but PA and upstate NY are pretty awesome.
NEW YORK TIMES: Dazzeling!! Very authentic with a dash of originality. Anyone who misses the "truckers life" will soon find themselves in the drivers seat of a log truck. -Class A forever
Good ole Western Star, 1st built in Kelowna BC, they were eyeing the logging market, then bought out, Kenworth, Pacific, Hayes and Mack made some great 16' bunk size truck, loved driving those beasts, some 14 ' had 5and 4 tranny's, lots of folk don't even know what that is. and no air, 500 gallon water tank behind cab for cooling brakes, look em up, that driving.
Its nice you have someone to push you in the slick stuff,,, Saves chaining up every load. At least you are not sinking in deep clay. Should dry up soon and make your day go easier. Thanx for sharing the trip.
Cool vid, Thanks for sharing it. You got some driving skills, most people wouldn't think or know to rack/jerk the steering wheel when the veh isn't making the turn & it pushes straight thru.
Hey brother, I congratulate you x drive so exelente in such a wet terrain .. I admire the work .. I am from venezuela and I am a truck driver also greetings exelente video
WOW, phantastic views, please do more of them, please if possible longest lasting possible vid from underneath drivers cab floor, to open view on pedal segments activated by drivers feet in the cabin and steering linkage....would be awesome to save pics of this mechanical technology threatened by new electric drives....
Im just starting my courses for my class 1 (in british columbia a Class 1 license is required for truck driving). I used to drive 32 foot 5 ton trucks. Over time ive absolutely come to love older Mack trucks and volvos haha. I drove a 10 speed international and a brand new auto international when i drove 5 tons
Thanks for video I always start with low low when I am loaded and keep the trans axle locked till hit the paved road and you shouldn't fully lock the axles if it is nice and dry, it is hard on bushings.. 10 speed is not enough for heavy loads like logging. we use 550hp or more and 18spd, we haul 63000kg up to over 80000 kg .
Looks like about my day of hauling trees.. but at a faster pace.. yeah its muddy.. it will slow every thing down.. on a good day.. 5 to the mills and head for the house 14 to 16 hours a day.. 5 and 6 days a wk
I'm actually surprised the truck is a 10 speed. I first thought maybe a 15 but I didn't see the deep reduction switch on the side. Awesome video and nice shifting
Thanks, Most often with short haul under 80K I never found the need for more than 10, most of the time unloaded I’ll only hit 6-7 even in a truck with 18 gears in a box.
@@SuperDriver379 very true. Always get a laugh at the bobtail o/o going through all 18 gears so the other drivers know how many gears they have. I've been stuck with a Cascadia with a DT 12 autoshift lately. Beautiful truck but the autoshift never knows what gear it wants
Every automatic transmission I drove thought the engine needed to be at 2,200 on the tachometer all the time, like they didn’t tell them peak torque was under 1,500...
@@SuperDriver379 the Cascadia that I drive was detuned from 505 to 400 HP and the performance mode in the transmission was deleted at companies request so pulled a hill it won't shift down til 1000rpm and will skip every second gear regardless of weight. Then when you use manual mode you don't get your fuel bonus but your truck most likely will end up at the shop. And warming up in winter time is frowned upon too. Waste of fuel apparently. If you have a/p haul ass.

Hold on lmao. Do both so you have options. Logging is fun as hell, but depending on where you live, there’s different challenges you must face. If you live on the West Coast states, you must face twisting and winding roads up mountains. On the east coast, there are bogs and mud holes, and sometimes the roads aren’t built good so you have to go 15mph through a 10mi road. Plus the long hours. Trucking is fun and there’s money in it, but you gotta be up to the challenge you may face
I also drive a logging truck in northern Ontario Canada. I run a double framed t800 kw with 18000 lbs steer and 46 rears 430 ratio 70 ton 5th wheel 550 Cummins deleted. 18spd . I haul a 5 Axle timmins log trailer and fully loaded we run anywhere from 63500kg to 800000 plus kg. you can see the terrain we haul on on my channel. have a look
Ernie all he loggers in the southern states are in awe of what you guys do up there, 84,000lb gross is all we are legally permitted to do down here, but I've scaled in at 115,000lbs and the truck handled it fine.
Thought it sounded like a Detroit , I drive one in GA got a T800 glider with a 550 6NZ 10 spd 3.90s we have to get pulled and pushed a lot here too that red clay is like ice here .
I miss log driving my log truck so much . my health failed my at a young age 47 yrs young o well guess its the lords work had a stroke then diabetes came lost my license from it o well lords work
I did that in the mid eighties with a CL9000 Ford with a 425 Cat 3406 and a 13 speed. Got drug in and drug out many times in the Georgia red clay. Man if you got 500 hp get you some better tires and use it.
1st get rid of them street tires, 2nd use those diff locks and inter lock and that little bit of mud won’t stop you at all. I been driving a log truck for 21 yrs in Mississippi 3rd get them cd’s out of the way, they gonna cause a blind spot
The rear was locked up the whole time I was off the highway, if you watched the video before I strapped down to get on the pavement I unlocked them. The tires were the original tires they’re open shoulder now.
early mornings are late evening with up to you productions kingw love n my our future hands rise sky high real good and honor road runner beep 🐝 beep 🔔
Yeah lmao. Drivers will never be replaced. I would buy tesla one day but they have to master the arts of off-road trucking first. Their current truck is any other old piece of plastic
I only have 1 experience close to logging, me and my dad we’re getting a log grabber thing on wheels and the truck was a 2000 t800 with a fuel turned 550 cat with 3:90s and I’ve never seen a truck break lose before then on Georgia clay
Oh how the average joe is spoiled these days, A/C, power windows, cruise, radios, smooth rides and quiet engines with actual power... what a time to be alive.
