I'm a Canadian who moved to Bamberg this February and I absolutely love it here!

Germany is literally packed of old towns like these. There will be castles everywhere you go (especially in Bayern or Baden-Württemberg). Can‘t wait till you guys can get the whole german experience. Germany has so much to offer😊 loved growing up here!

I live in Bamberg and the reason everyone is wearing masks on the farmer's market is because you're literally obliged to in the city center.

Bamberg is such a great town to explore. As a tea-totaler, my go to drink when in Germany is Spezi (coke, orange Fanta mix). It's an addiction of mine.

I don't drink alcohol either. When I first moved to Germany from America 24 years ago, I told my roommate at the time that I didn't drink, and his jaw just dropped. He looked at me as if I had said "I don't breathe air."

I also love Bamberger, but as someone born here it hurts my soul that you bought them at Beck. Next time you are in Bamberg you should definitely check out Bäckerei Seel, a very old local bakery and they have the best and original "Bamberger". The bakery is not far from the old Rathaus. They will definitely be faaaar better than those from the big chain Beck, that is everywhere here in Franconia. :)

Wait till spring will turn germany into a sunny, green, flower bursting place...You will love it! Find a favourite café to sit outside (when covid will allow it) have a cappuccino and enjoy!

Although Germany is known for its beer, not every German drinks alcohol. I also don’t drink alcohol and I’m German. The same goes for many of my friends. And you don’t have to drink alcohol to enjoy German culture and cuisine. 💁🏼‍♀️😄

South Germany is what the american stereotype of Germany is like, but as soon as the corona situation will improve and travelling is allowed you should definetly visit the Mosel Area, Rhine-Ruhr Area in Northline Westphalia aswell as Hamburg and the north and east sea with its costs and beaches. Germany is so multifaceted!😊

The "Alte Rathhaus" in Bamberg aswell as parts of the Domplatz were locations where Hollywood filmed "3 Musketeers 3D" with Orlando Bloom. You easy can spot the places in the Film.

I live in Bamberg and I love to see how excited you Are to visit the city! We have very beautiful places here and even tough our beer is good not everyone drinks it 🙈 (Normally our April/May is warmer. I don‘t know what’s going on right now 🤷🏼‍♀️)

My older brother (German like me) doesn't like the taste of alcohol, so he doesn't drink any alcohol either. Me personally I like a beer now and then. But the number of beers I drank this year can be counted on both hands. So it's perfectly fine if you don't want to drink. No need to apologize. Good that you came 'clean' about it early on before too many people came to 'expect' you to try beer or wine. Or worse, recommed to send you to all kinds of beer and wine festivals for their specific local brewery or vinyard specialities. But still the local beer and wine festivals offer so much more than alcohol, as soon as the situation allows them again. I can't wait to see how the pent up desire for Germans to party will make these festivals explode all over the landscape. It will be awe-inspiring. Edit 1: When I saw the sign at 2:45 I thought, darn, THAT'S the style of bakery I was talking about. Try their bread, it's probably going to blow your mind. If I read that correctly, it said "mit Roggennatursauerteig gebacken" = "baked with a naturally proofed rye sour dough". That stuff is awesome. The price for such a loaf is probably a bit higher than the standard bakery bread pre-baked in an industrial oven, but oh my gosh, I will bet certain parts of my body to be removed if that bread isn't absolutely amazing. /end edit 1 Edit 2: White asparagus: that's a bug that never bit me, similar to you guys with alcohol. I just don't appreciate the taste. But the white asparagus stands will be around for next four weeks or so, selling their wares all over the country. The older the cities, the more likely they are located on a river. Everyone needs water, and a wide flowing river provided water even at times when shallow wells run dry. If a small island in the river offered a highly defensible location as well, it was almost certain to sprout a village, later a town or city sometime in the distant past. No-one left such sweet spots unoccupied for long. Fresh water, defensible position, probably fish as emergency food even when cut off from the surrounding farms, and the possibility of river travel and trade. Most often surrounding areas of rivers were verdant, green pastures or other farmland as well. What was not to like for an ancient or medieval city? The larger such cities grew, the more likely that the city center with all the administation of the Rathaus, the Council House, remained at least in the vicinity of such a spot. Seems to be the case with Bamberg. Oooh, that Dom looks ooooold, like really old, even for Germany old. Yepp, I just checked on Wikipedia. The construction was started in 1012. It is built in the Romanischer Stil / Romanesque style, with the rounded arches above the doors and windows. Compare those to the later, higher Gothischer Stil / gothic style, with thin pointed window and door gables and frames.

I saw a lot of Drone_shots. 1). if you use a Drone over 250 Gramms you need an A1/A3 Lizens and an ID from the LBA, under 250 you need only an ID, and plesase use the "Droniq" app, to make sure ist allowed to Fly, at most Historik Point is not allowed to fly. Take some Informations from the LBA (Luftfahrt Bundesamt) can safe a lot of Money...

You guys should check out the Walhalla in Regensburg. It's probhably shut because of the plague but the view alone is worth to stop by for a stroll. And with the upcomming weather in mind it's probhably a good place to be next weekend.

Nobody is let down by you not drinking alcohol, it's not mandatory in Germany ;)

Bamberg local here. Should you return, there are much better places, with a nice view of the old-town rooftops, in the city center. For example the Michelsberg with the St. Michaels Monastery and the Rosengarten (Rosegarden) inside the Neue Residenz. I can highly recommend checking them out. You should also, at least once, visit a local Bierkeller, which will be open during summertime, when the weather is good. They serve non alcoholic beverages aswell, and you can order food but also bring your own! There are two, in Bamberg, with a perfect view. The Spezi Keller and the Wilde Rose Keller. But if you prefer to go and explore the countryside, there are many of these Kellers in the surrounding area, which are also worth a visit.

About the "Croissants": They are called Bamberger Hörnla (= Bamberg Horns) and the locals will be quick to point out they are NOT croissants. While the croissant was only introduced in France in the 19th century and subsequently only really became popular there in the 20th century, there are sources dating the Bamberger Hörnla back to at least the 15th century. Additionaly, while many croissants are made with margerine, for Bamberger Hörnla the use of butter is required by law. As someone who lives in Bamberg and is a tour guide here I really enjoyed seeing you explore the town! Thanks! :-)

I was born and raised in Nuremberg and moved to Florida 38 years ago with my husband and 8 months old little girl. I still have my mom and brothers and other family living in Nuremberg and I visit as often as I can. I can relate to so many of your experiences. It was soo hard to say good bye but we were so excited about our new life in the States. It's great to see you looking into the future with such positivity! Traditionally, the Hörnla are dipped in coffee Unlike its French brother, the croissant, the Bamberg croissant is crustier, richer in butter (at least 20 percent butter) and slimmer. Bamberger Hörnla taste very good with coffee, in which the croissant is dipped in before biting off.

I'm living in Berlin. But I have relatives in Franken. Im quite often there. Also for business-travels. Try the big butcher in Schlüsselfeld and ask him for fresh Leberkäse. Great! He make it and you must put it in your oven: 170 °C for two hours. With potato-salad and mustard. Near Bamberg there is a tavern called "Gasthof Höhn". I know they offer a drive in since Corona for their Restaurant. I miss the beer, the burger and (a fränkische Spezialität): their "Schäufele". Schäufele ist a local version of rips. Try it. I really miss it... By the way: somewhere there is old foto. I was maybe 5 years old. I stood on the bridge in Bamberg and behind me: the old townhall in the middle of the torrential River on the big rock. I still remember how impressive that building was for me as a child.

The important part of the cathedral isn't the outside, but the inside - it has the only papal grave north of the Alps, the only graves of nobility members who have been canonized, and a really famous statue of a knight on horseback (probably the first image of a horse wearing shoes). It'll be surprising if you ever see a cathedral that isn't under construction - since they take centuries to build, once one thing is built or repaired, it's time to repair something else. And on and on into perpetuity. ;) I hope you get to go back on a nicer day. There are a few really famous ice cream parlors (Riffelmacher is my favorite, but Bassanese is also great) and there is one of the oldest pizzerias in Germany, Salino. The beer Keller (cellars - Bamberg is built on sandstone and the breweries built a series of underground tunnels to store beer underground at a constant, cool temperature, so you don't go to a beer garden there, but rather, you go "onto a cellar") have lots of non-alcoholic drinks and most of them have playgrounds for kids. The Spezialkeller has an especially nice view.

If you live so close you should definitely visit Erlangen, too. You can even combine it with a trip to Nürnberg because Erlangen is not that big! But you should definitely check out the castle and the botanical garden. Erlangen is a very industrial city compared to Nürnberg, but the town centre is still very beautiful and filled with old architecture. 😊

About the Bamberger Croissants: The croissant is not special in any particular way, but the name is. It is a wordplay, which only works in german under the condition that you really know Bamberg. Croissants are also called "Hörnchen" in german, which roughly translates to "little horns", due to its shape. But the "Bamberger Hörnchen" is also a potato breed that is only mostly grown within the city (we actually have little fields hidden within the outscirts of Bamberg east - no joke). Therefore the Croissant is just a Croissant, but the name is something the Bambergers appreciate. I hope this clears things up! Great video, I love your style!

Hi guys, first of all welcome to Germany! It's interesting to watch your videos and listen to you experiences. As you like hiking I can recommend the area "Altmühltal" to you as this is easy to do with the stroller along the river. There are some nice small towns / villages but also larger ones, like Kehlheim. When you visit Kehlheim there is the famous "Donau Durchbruch" where you will find the monastary "Weltenburg" directly at the river with an very nice surrounding. The monastary is still active and they are well known for their brewery. Even if you don't drink beer it is a nice place to have a break and probably eat something if they can open up the beer garden again due to the Corona regulations. Next to the monastary and the Donau Durchbruch you will find the "Befreiungshalle Kehlheim" which is a monument in this area and offers a really great view from up there. It is a 1,5h ride by car from Grafenwöhr to Kehlheim and you can visit Regensburg on this tour too. If you like Bamberg you'll like Regensburg as well :-) Make sure that the weather is good or at least it's not raining a lot when you go there because then it is absolutely beautiful to walk around there and enjoy an evening in Regensburg. There was so much green aspagus also! If you haven't yet you should definitely try the green one. I think it tastes better and you don't need to peel the skin.

My grandma is a tourist guide in Bamberg and she told me the Bamberger Croissants are special bc they must contain real butter. If they only are made with margarine or canola oil they can not be called Bamberger Hörnchen. The butter is what makes the puff pastry so flakey and crunchy they taste better like normal "cheaper made" croissants

A recommendation of mine, where you could go, when the corona situation allows it would be the "Lausitzer Seenland" in east germany. It is kind of between and in the south of Brandenburg and the north-east of Sachsen, with the "Senftenberger See" being kind of the main lake. What is fascinating about it is, that most of the lakes are actually artificial and are being created to make the land usable again. the reason being, that in the region a lot of coal (lignite) was being mined in pit mines. actually even small villages were destroyed for the mines and now these lakes are being used to make some use out of the pit mines. the term is a bit losely defined, as multiple of these artificial lakes are included, but with there being works done, to connect the region, other natural rivers and older lakes are also being included into this term. that process took some decades, from needing rivers to give water for the lakes, to making the water actually tolerable for humans. the progress for that differs from lake to lake, so make sure, that you inform yourself about the state beforehand, as it may not be safe for humans yet, however the "Senftenberger See" is done for some time now. it has developed into a kind of nature and tourist resort, where you can swim on several beaches around the lake or take a boat, maybe rent one of these pedal boats, sail or even do some diving. in the last few years there was work done on creating a canal infrastructure to connect multiple of these lakes directly and now there even exists a harbor in Senftenberg. However it is also quite popular to make bike tours in the region, either to other connected lakes or the region or specifically around the lake, as there is a bike path going around the whole lake (apparently 18km according to a website. no idea, if it is correct, but purely riding a bike takes maybe 1 to 2 hours, depending on your personal speed, excluding breaks). Maybe visiting the F60 in Lichterfelde is something you would enjoy. it is one of these giant conveyor bridges, which was used in the coal mining. apparently the F60s were the biggest conveyor bridges built in the world, with 4 being in operation still and the one in Lichterfelde is actually open to visitors and you can walk on it. they seem to be quite the big equipment, as the german wikipedia describes them as: "die größten beweglichen technischen Arbeitsmaschinen", which translated could mean about this: the biggest mobile technical (work)machines. dimensions: 80m high, 240m width, 500m long. so i think, that this could be a unique experience visiting it. Additionally to other locations in the region you would like to visit, Senftenberg is decently close to the "Spreewald" (maybe 1 hour by car) and i would also recommend that region. Otherwise it is notable, that Senftenberg is kind of directly in the middle between Cottbus and Dresden, which are kind of the biggest cities in the region (both pretty much 1 hour by car) and therefore could have interesting locations for you. Leipzig is also in that region, though a bit more far away then Dresden. naturally it might be better to just go to Dresden, Cottbus or Leipzig, if it interests you more, but i thought, that it might be fine, if you just want to make day trips to different places in the region. In the end I can just recommend the region, though i wouldnt call it a popular destination. for once it is kind of young and the tourist infrastructure is definetly not as well built, as in the north at the "Nordsee" and the "Ostsee", but you will still find everything you need. because of the license plates we often notice, that a lot of people from Sachsen come to the Senftenberger See and i guess the immedeate surrounding regions is, where this is kind of known as a good place in the summer. Maybe even as a content creator it might be interesting to cover the region, especially with the whole artifical lake angle or i could guess, that the sheer might of the F60 might be cool to capture on video. Or maybe the Spreewald might be interesting to you, although it has a bit of an touristic feel to it, it is quite nice, with canals you can cross in your own boats and kind of traditional buildings + some traditional clothes (although i would guess, that some wear them, because of tourism). also i might be biased, since it is that close, but at least in the region pickles from the Spreewald are thought of to be the best best pickles and the region is well known for producing several really really good kinds of pickles (Gewürzgurken are my favourites) and there are even several companies using the Spreewald as a name and sell them in supermarkets as either a kind of small plastic tub/barrel or in a jar. I would recommend the company Spreewaldhof, if you can find it, where you live.

4:50 Belgian here. I don't know about the German specialty, but normal croissants are way smaller, like the size of your hand stretched or slightly larger (depends on the hand, depends on the croissant...). That thing is giant!

In case of drinks: there's something called "club mate" (non-alc, cold drink) here in Germany which is pretty popular among students (university) or younger people in general to drink. It has caffein in it though, I'm not sure if this is okay with your faith but if it is: try it! People either love or hate it :D Can usually be bought in bigger supermarkets.

The croissant is a regular croissant. It's just called Bamberger in this area. If you're into sports you should visit Brose Bamberg, the local basketball team. They were tha absolute best team in Germany for a few years and the fans are still the best. If you're into soccer you should visit the "Club" (1. FCN) which is the soccer team of Nuremberg. Right now there are no fans allowed but it will come back.

I don't drink either and I doubt that your viewers will be disappointed about it! I used to study in Bamberg. I lived right above Am Kranen, in the Fischstrasse (where you were standing), so it brings back some memories. I also had some stalking issues in Bamberg but I prefer to remember the happy times. If you're still there you should visit the best little bakery in town called Kapuzinerbeck (if you buy something sweet, they usually add half a Bamberger Hörnchen or something savory and if you buy something savory, they give you something sweet to try...the staff is the friendliest.)
