Our day in Accra, Ghana with Kendrick Lamar following the release of his latest album, Mr. Morale & The Big Steppers. Listen to Kendrick Lamar on Spotify now: spotify.link/KendrickLamar #KendrickLamar #Ghana #pgLang
I love how he blends in, no attitude or fancy style like most U.S. Americans going to Africa, bro looking like a young bob marley hanging out with his friends. Much love.
STFU, he's American but you are OK with him looking like Bob Marley... You MF are so lost, jealous and hateful.... Africa is a real shIthole... the whole Continent . Don't allow our Confidents to upset your insecurities you Bum
This! I'm a white, 50+ dude in a completely different world. But what I get from Kendrick is processing. He is always processing, assessing his reality. I just got home from my therapy session earlier today, and while what I have to process is different, hearing Kendrick process inspires me to look inward in the same way, to assess what my perception is versus how things really are (as a Buddhist friend keeps insisting I do). And because when I view Kendrick as processing, I also avoid dumping my expectations on to him, for what he should be and who and how he should should represent. Instead, I hear his dialogue, his struggle, his confessions, his pride, and his love. I tell people sometimes how much Kendrick means to me, but I don't think people understand. At least for me, I started listening to Kendrick BEFORE I recognized my anxiety. His processing is a HUGE part of where I am now. It's a journey, and while we are on completely different paths in completely different worlds, I feel like I am on that journey with him. When the new album dropped, it wasn't that I wanted to hear the next great album. I wanted to check in on Kendrick, see where he is at and compare notes. I really appreciated seeing him at peace in Ghana.
When I started to go back to Ghana again I would speak to the young guys about things they want to do and aspirations and I realise how westernised I’d become. Because all they think about is each other and all we think about is our personal ambitions. I originally thought they weren’t motivated until I realised they were just not self obsessed. So I try to not bring anything too westernised and just respect the culture. Ghana is perfect to me. And the people are even better.
@@gickygackers 'personal' relates to self not God thus not a gift from Him but a choice one has made for ones 'self' from the gift which is 'freewill'. the ability to choose one's action and thoughts. don't conflate things you don't understand. we all here to share love and do God's will not our personal ambitions.
@@JD-ny3vz sounds like someone forgot to count your blessings! You just say "western" culture because it's a buzzword. "Western" culture is awesome, that's why immigrant families are dying to come here. I say this as a proud immigrant, myself. Anyone who is unfulfilled needs to simply go to their respective house of worship lol
Kendrick Lamar has changed my life bro. And I'm white, so I can't even imagine how the black community has been positively impacted by his work. Truly an amazing artist that everyone can be inspired from.
Facts im white too and i heavily look up to kendrick i mean i can only imagine how the black community looks up to himi can see the inspiration. Besides his music career i also see him as a motivation
@@kennedi0809 imagine how much more God will change your live, if you accept his love which He expressed by sending His Son Jesus Christ to die for our sins and forgiveness.
Damn, I never thought of it that way! Him being on the ground with them let’s them know HE (as a standard/measuring stick) is NOT too far out of their reach. It’s like a real life superhero coming to town. That’s really important, and admirable! Show these kids it’s real, show them the power they possess 🤩
Watching Kendrick’s spiritual journey and the energy he’s progressed to is insane. I love it. He is way bigger than rap. He’s a philosopher. All love Kendrick 🤘🏼
@@johneta7665 literally the people living there are excited about it and welcome him yet the mfs on twitter with nothing to do with ghana are offended by this.......these people are stupid on an another lvl like let the man enjoy life ffs
Growing up in Eritrea, Africa then in Oakland, California has really given me a longing for Africa the motherland. Life is so slow and peaceful, look how Kendrick just seemingly fits into the everyday Ghanaian lifestyle. Look how beautiful the people are, how beautiful the country is. Recommend all my African American brothers and sisters to check out the motherland.
No matter what colour, race, sex and religion we all love u. Your music connects to all which is why your music is so special. Love from all of us Kdot.
You know what I see that's mostly beautiful? Look how safe it is with our people; Kendrick Lamar who is famous didn't need guards with guns 24/7, that's beautiful. We Africans are not dangerous people like we have been brainwashed to act, we’ve brainwashed to self-hate. We must get that back because it will set us free form there control.
it is ridiculous and its a perpetual state of fear mongering with no rationale behind it most my chillest times skating, playing football all that shit, was with black dudes, brazilian, foreigners..
He went straight into one of the hardest slums in Ghana Bukom, that hood alone has produced some of greatest boxers in Africa, the likes of Azuma Nelson, Ike Quartey, Joshua Clottey, Joseph Agbeko etc 🇬🇭 🇬🇭 🇬🇭
@@dominikkurowski3145 well in Kendrick’s mind the point of going to Ghana wasn’t to record a video. He said in the video that he’s so present and in the moment that he doesn’t know what day it is, he probably didn’t even have a phone on him
The fact that Kendrick new album didn't hit many people's heads shows that they still have lots of growing to do. This album is one of my personal favorites because it hits home so much.
I love it when people go in search of their roots to learn, understand, and find new things rather than just reading about it on social media or listening to common beliefs. Even learning a language can give great insight into where you came from and who you are. I have so many American students who wish to learn Norwegian just to connect to the roots they thought were long lost. Some of them even went to Norway and met with their family who had relatives that were part of one of the biggest immigration groups in the early days of the US.
@reed Jack More resources to learn about the Vikings and other historical eras in Scandinavian languages just make it more enjoyable to learn. I doubt anyone is planning to go on a voyage to pillage the brits anytime soon.
@reed Jack The ones I teach to still practice Norwegian traditions, go to Norwegian universities founded by Norwegians, usually in Iowa or Minnesota and are able to trace back to their families in Norway. That's the reason they wish to learn the language, so they can move there without being disabled by a language barrier. It's just easier to learn it from a native speaker than it is to learn it from someone who learned it at a grown age in the US. Despite all that, it's true that many people want to learn more, and often glorify them cause Vikings are universally considered cool despite what they did. I taught an Ecuadorian girl who said she wished the Vikings would colonize them instead of the Spaniards but I don't know about that lol.
Man this album came out about the same time my grandma pass away. This shit has been helping me heal a lil bit and keep my mind off it. Thanks Kendrick nothing but positive energy my G.
Yo brother, I've had the same situation. I had to fly all the way to Korea to meet him for the last time, it was also during my final exams, so atm I'm retaking them all.. This album was a great distraction from everything that has happened and I'm sure it was for you too. It still is for me. Put things in perspective.
My condolences to you bro. He released around the time my dad passed from Leukemia, but know whatever loved ones that have gone home left us with beautiful memories until it’s our time to join them.
“This is my most PRESENT.” Meaning he’s coming to a place of acute self-awareness of himself. His human condition. Expressing his experiences in an almost “observer” standpoint. Beautiful and I’m grateful for Kendrick becoming aware himself. 🙏🏽✨
Spot on. He's sharing Mr Ekhart Tolle with everyone too if they haven't noticed. A bit of Allan Watts would have worked well on this album too. Remember that now is eternal, it's never anything else regardless of what the ego tells you.
@@hcr32slider you’re absolutely right! I hope those who are curious are willing to look into Tolle’s “pointers”. We need more self-realizations in this existence. And thank you for that reminder. I’ve been doing what I can in this moment to remember that. It’s difficult when the mind tends to get caught within anything but the now. I know it won’t eventually. Thank you for you. 🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽
@@xJussBE whether you're there or not, it's nice to be able at the least to be concious of when you're being unconcious which can snap you out of your feelings or thoughts. Not blocking them, just being aware so you can let them float by and let go of them after as ultimately there is nothing to even let go of. Look into Alan Watts. Takes Ekhart Tolle back another layer.
@@hcr32slider I’ll definitely take another listen to him. I have listened to him before, but I guess I never gravitated towards his talks as much. I don’t know if you know these other teachers/pointers but Adyashanti, Mooji, and Personal Mastery Quest has been very helpful for me.
@@xJussBE there's something to take from everyone thats for sure. Eckhart can be boring to listen to. It's a tough gig trying to describe and teach a feeling and mindset thats out of the box. Personally it was all of the little epiphanies and realisations that helped me out of the mental prison.
Swear I wanna go to Ghana and chill on the beach just like him..has to be some peaceful shit..especially after dropping that 🔥 album. It was important for him to get away from any negativity that him speaking his truth will bring. I get it. 🧘🏾♀️ Thank you for a life changing album🙏🏾 fuck the haters🖕🏾keep doing what you do 🥰We appreciate you💜
I recently started therapy im 33 im a black man and I hold a lot of pain and anger in so the growth in challenging myself to go to therapy he talks about hit home! I love Kendrick
King Kendrick speaks like he's on the mic, music exactly in his veins. It's even great to see him spending such quality time on continent of his roots, he's the truth.
that would take the experience out of it. The whole point of it was probably connecting to your roots and getting away from... the western world and its choke-hold on us. Making a documentary about this unique moment ruins the experience.
@@user-kv8go8pw9q exploiting experiences through social media and documentation for the masses can take the soul out of it so yeh I feel that. People ain’t understand where he’s at mentally these days, he on a different spiritual level
Yes, Happy Earth Day King Kenny! Love to see him celebrating his 35 years around the earth in Ghana, The Motherland, celebrating with peace and a humble joy 🇬🇭 Black Gold, Black Star
Going to Ghana as a black american, it changes the way you see the entire world. If every black american could go back home to Africa it would be a beautiful thing.
African is just one home our hole is on American soil we Been home home was just taken from us Africa wasnt the only landmass full of diverse black people the Americas was too all over this globe was black don’t let slavery fool you they lied about that too
@@africamazing8143 black Europeans are not going to back to Africa and black Latin Americans are not going to Africa also I don’t see white people going back to one country because humans are spreading out but you should know that black humans and the rest of humans are from Israel
Everyone seems so happy and even looking at the people in the back just meandering through the crowds no one seems self absorbed. I feel like these people are 9 times happier than I ever will be and I find that beautiful. They don't have the western outllook and aspirations of fame and riches. They just live to live and I love that.
I lived in Ghana for many years and never experienced depression and mental health till I left, I realised I left a place of peace and happiness, yes there were bad times but it never hindered me too much and I always found happiness after a few times of sadness, Ghana is a really beautiful country and the people and peace there is something that I can't see In many countries
words can't express my love and admiration for kendrick enough. such a wise person with so many life experiences. such an inspiring and uplifting artist who has been real since day 1. i love his music to death and his story is so valuable, im really glad that we have him in this world. he helps me so much with my own suffering and my own emotions.
K DOT please don’t ever stop being you. You are an inspiration to all. You have opened my eyes in ways you can not even imagine. Love from the UK TO The whole world.
I love how humble Kendrick Lamar is and how open he is to sharing his experiences and talking about how life is a perspective. Him coming to an African country especially Ghana was exciting to see. It shows that no matter where we may come from we are always one . He's really amazing and such a kind hearted soul 💯💯💯
This man has an album that is certified top 10 of all time in hip hop and probably another top 50. He's in the convo for GOAT, has dropped nothing but dope projects, perfectly marries mainstream appeal and challenging content, and we're all witnessing it live. Wonder if this is how they felt growing up with Pac, 3stacks, Jay and them.
100% People take for granted the time we live in. Sports legends like Tiger Woods, Lebron, Curry. Musical geniuses like Kendrick, Frank Ocean, Kanye (regardless of ur current opinion). Some of the best cinema to touch the silver screen has come out in the last 10-20 years. We live in a goated era. And I don’t even think I’m being bias. I think about J Cole’s line often, “they act like two legends cannot coexist”. We often spend so much time deciding who #1 is we disregard just the absolute competitive talent we experience on a daily basis.
Definitely wish it was longer but I appreciate this !!! And his album definitely spoke on some real issues in the community and experiences as a human being ..mind of a Gemini 💪
You can learn so much from this intellectual individual. God bless you Kendrick, keep inspiring not just others but yourself as well. Thank you for your wisdom and art. 💯🔥💕🙏🏼
No way! That board game on that glass is what's played in Colombia too! Parques! When I lived in Colombia a year it was a huge culture shock like this. Helped me change my views early on as a kid. Then having the privilege (although we were always poor) to move to France, Spain and now UK on my own, it's all been a blessing. Negatives to it too like anything in life. No roots for examples. But it's why now I can't take any view or opinion as the truth. It's all about perspective in life. People grow up differently everywhere and both sides are usually right about any topic. It's a balance. Edit: I commented this before watching past the first few seconds. He said it himself. Life is about perspective. I swear this album has aligned with my moment in life where I'm maturing and these thoughts I've had are solidifying, establishing, creating new habits to embracing these views. Change. Something we humans seem to hate. Creatures of habit. But we have the ability to defy what it set out for us due to our environment and upbringing. We still can change. And I know I slowly am. I have to. Like Kendrick, I gotta change and grow so my kids do too. My mom took the first step. As a woman in Colombia she left her home at 16 to live in the big city and go to school while working. He worked her ass off all for my dad to ruin her life forever. But then I wouldn't exist if it never happened. From negative things comes positives. It's all perspective. She died of cancer last year and during that last month. Every day, every hour, I was next to her..... I really miss her. All I got is my little brother now. It was us 3, always. Now it's down to 2. We gotta stick together because no one else will.
Kendrick is the certified GOAT. His work can help the Black community heal. No other artist is as inspirational in such a meaningful way. 👏🏾👏🏾 ***For the ignorant folks out there: Finding someone's story inspirational and informative doesn't make them my savior.
Kendrick’s ability to convey emotion relative to most human minds is what makes him extraordinary. Literally just speaking in his own terms and it’s poetic because of his ability to get us to feel something. Salute to Kendrick. A legend in the flesh
That’s why it’s so crazy when we look down on people or think somehow people are more capable than we are. They’re all just showing us the depths and heights of what we can do/be! ✨
I love King Kendrick, I’ve been a fan of his for years, and was so happy when he released Mr Morale and the big steppers, he is my favourite artist, and IDC what you think, he is definitely one of the best IMO
Saying it wherever I can; this man is my GOAT. No artist has changed my life more than him. He leans into his imperfections and puts them on full display knowing what all the haters will say. He's not our savior but I'll be damned if you can name me many artists who have made a bigger impact. You'll never see this but thank you Kendrick.
Happy Birthday King! This is inspirational and always excited to see what you and Dave got cooking up. You can explain it but you can’t make everyone understand it. This walk of life is always a journey to bring you home. Thank you for your honesty in your art. You don’t owe us a damn thing but you still give us your truth and I’ll speak for myself when I say I’m extremely grateful to be present in this moment to see a great poet continue to be great. Much love and bless up
@@kevinkakkanattu9506 but society is the ones that placed that expectation on them. part of mr morale and the big steppers is reminding the audience these 'celebrities' are not your saviour. talent does not equal morality. just appreciate the art
Life is about over coming challenges. It builds character. It’s how we relate to each other. His rawness in this album made me relate to him so much more. Long live Kendrick ❤
Father Time is the song I could relate to most in the album! It's so amazing how Kendrick get to tell our stories and that's the beauty of art. Love from Nigeria to the goat🇳🇬💜💙💙
