A Day in My Life Study Abroad at the University of Auckland

Here it is! I finally put together a video of what my daily life was like when I was studying abroad at the University of Auckland. It took me pretty long to make this video because while I was studying abroad, and even after I came back, it was pretty hard to objectively look at my life without getting sad that I had to leave.
I studied abroad for 5 months in Auckland, New Zealand, and these days were some of the best of my life. This video might seem a bit boring, and I definitely adventured a lot more in New Zealand than this video leads on, but I wanted to portray what truly a regular DAY in my college life was like. Hope this helps some of you!
For more info, please check out my other videos about New Zealand and also the following links:

I currently study at the University of Glasgow but have applied to study in Auckland for my 3rd year. Thank you for uploading this video! It’s really helpful and gives a great insight as to what the city is like ☺️

musyaifi Abdillah Hi, of course, New Zealand is very diverse cultural, Auckland is full of different cultures and languages. I'm from Hamilton so it's a lot different to Auckland but generally speaking NZers are very forward and friendly. We love learning about different cultures and foreigners are very welcome. New Zealand isn't expensive but many people would disagree, I was travelling in Europe last year and I found New Zealand to be quite expensive in comparison but living here I don't really notice. We pay high prices for food compared to Australia, Canada and US but it's liveable. When are you thinking of arriving

What's the closest beach to the campus, and is it easy to visit the beach a lot with classes and stuff?

yophie Ho www.auckland.ac.nz/en/on-campus/life-on-campus/living-in-auckland/cost-of-living-auckland.html there’s a table on this page with some good estimates but it will vary a lot depending on your living habits!

@moeyday thanks a lot but hope u don't mind if I ask u the cost of staying on campus if u have any idea. Then also what happens to students who stay on campus when they school goes on breaks or closes.
@moeyday
@moeyday 5 лет назад
It can vary depending on different things but here is a link to the university website’s accommodation and you can look around at options. You usually would have the housing for breaks also except summer break you have to apply for summer accommodation I believe. www.auckland.ac.nz/en/on-campus/accommodation.html

Thanks for the video but are there part time jobs for students. And also between on campus and off campus residence Wich is cheaper and better.
@moeyday
@moeyday 5 лет назад
I.K Tasie there are part time jobs available and you can definitely find jobs in the city not affiliated to school but if you are on a student visa studying abroad then you won’t be able to work (you need a work visa). A great way around this is to do psychology studies and they pay you in gift cards or cash. Off campus housing is probably cheaper in general but you usually have to get your own furniture and find the place yourself so on campus is easier, more convenient, and at times could be cheaper

Hey, thanks for all the information. I grew up in Auckland but now live in Australia. I was thinking about going to do postgraduate studies there..especially at university of auckland. My only question really is..how is the cost of living there? How much would i need at minimum for rent, food, bills , transport? I plan on saving..just need to know whether im under-estimating the living costs. I'm eligible for student assistance but from what i researched its around maximum $300 a week. I doubt that's enough for rent and food?
@moeyday
@moeyday 6 лет назад
Hi thanks for watching and commenting! Auckland is generally an expensive city but your living habits can make things cheaper for sure. I can't say exactly but for a relatively budgeted but still somewhat healthy diet for me I was spending about $60-100. Rent, depending if you share a room, maybe $150-350 a week. But then obviously there's transportation, entertainment, etc. They say about $380-480 a week, without cost of school, textbooks, etc. U of A breaks it down here: www.education.auckland.ac.nz/en/for/current-students/cu-fees-and-money-matters/cost-of-living.html

It's fairly easy to get part-time work though, so that could be a consideration as well in addition to saving! Best of luck!

Hi ... I'm an international student. Can I do my masters in UoA after completing my distance/online education in my own country. I mean do they accept distance education ??
@moeyday
@moeyday 5 лет назад
Saranya Shanmugam yes you can either attend the university as an international student with international fees for a masters, info here: www.auckland.ac.nz/en/study/international-students/study-options-for-international-students/postgraduate-study-for-international-students/taught-masters-international-students.html However, they do also have some graduate program that can be completed online, info here: www.auckland.ac.nz/en/education/study-with-us/study-options/postgraduate-programmes/auckland-online.html

Hi! i just got my offer to UoA and was considering where to stay for my accommodation. How was it like living at the Carlaw Park Student Village? :)
@moeyday
@moeyday 5 лет назад
Mariyah Shahrin I loved it! It’s usually single rooms in a shared suite with 2-3 other people. I was placed with 3 girls from New Zealand which made it really easy to get to know locals. But also the Americans in my program were all living in the same buildings so it was easy to see them too! 5 minute walk from campus. Highly recommend it! They also have events and other things for students because it is university housing

@@moeyday aw that's so great! I was thinking of staying in uni housing for at least my first sem, and then finding external apartments for the rest of my time there if the cost is too high, but I was trying to figure out which uni housing to go for. I'm from Malaysia, so I just wanna ask if there were malaysians staying there as well? :)

Hi! Thanks for watching and commenting! I’m not familiar with the graduate programs admission unfortunately I wish I could be of more help. If you’re interested though I would definitely apply! It’s been a while since I was at school there so I don’t remember what everyone was studying but they definitely have a department for everyone!
