hey sarah!! the gap in your graph happens when you don’t scan for 8+ hours because the sensor only holds 8 hours worth of data :) hope this helps! you’re doing great so don’t be too hard on yourself

thanks! and i’ll try :) i’ve definitely learned in the last few months that being hard on yourself never helps and i really need to work on that

My 5 year old daughter just got diagnosed with type 1 diabetes. She’s surprisingly taking it well when it comes to eating healthy. We are all eating better now and staying more active. It all definitely helps in controlling her sugar level

I was diagnosed with type 1 less than 1 year ago. There are so many more things to do in a day when you have diabetes 🙁 Way to go for continuing to do the things that you enjoy and not letting diabetes control your life. That is a really hard thing to do 😊

hey!! a little tip : when you prime your needle, you can do it inside the cap of the needle (make sure to remove the little one) so that your room or your stuff won't smell like insulin.

I been a type 1 diabetic since I was 7 years old, and been on a low carb diet for most of my life. My HbA1c are below 5.0% with very low insulin needs. The low carb approach is a sure way method to prevent complications. My carb limit is 25g a day, protein 150g and fat unlimited though I tend to just eat whatever comes with the protein. If you are newly diagnosed all I can recommend is for you to listen to Dr. Bernstein diabetes university on RU-vid. He teaches you to treat your illness and preserve whatever Beta cells you may have left. My current insulin need is 7u of Tresiba, and 12u of R insulin for protein meals and vegetables carbs. Smaller doses than even most children given the amount of food I eat. Good luck, and avoid high blood sugar!

I do lazy keto. I avoid them, but I'm not crying over it if I eat some. And like you said, I just choose what carb I'm going to eat. It's no fun to waste carbs/spend half the day fixing a spike for carbs that aren't worth it. Lol

I’ve been T1D for almost two years now and it’s crazy for me to watch this and remember all the things I used to do bc I thought I had to I.e. priming my insulin pin and what not but I hope your doing great! (I’m a new subscriber). Also I use the omnipod and Dexcom g6 now.☺️

Not priming your insulin pin isn't a good idea. I have had plenty that don't work initially, which would result in highs more times than I can count, you should always prime!!!

Riann Alexandra yes I understand that I don’t use pens anymore I am on the omnipod now so don’t have to prime any way but I get where your coming from and agree for the most part thanks for your concern ;))

Hi so I'm 18 and I've had type 1 diabetes since I was 3 and I just want to ask were you told to use the longlasting insulin the same time as the injection before you had food?? Because I was told to use the longlasting one as soon as I wake up I have to reach for it and then an hour later I can inject insulin for food then eat 😅😅

A very useful tip from an experienced mom of a T1D boy: whenever you see such a large difference between the FSL and the glucometer, measure again! It doesn't happen often but I've had the odd defective measuring stripe (also Contour Next Link) give a wrong reading. So if in doubt, measure again!
@sarahpriscilla_
@sarahpriscilla_ 4 года назад
that’s a good idea! thanks for the advice :)
@siubhanward7631
@siubhanward7631 4 года назад
Hey! Nearly 10 years diagnosed and 4 on FSL here :) just a few things I wanted to say to help - the FSL isn’t a CGM but it’s a flash monitor as it doesn’t continuously provide you with your own sugars - you need to prompt it. If possible; when your sensor had 24 hours left - put the new one on and let it “settle”. The readings are very off the first 1/2 days so try and put it on early so when you scan it’s as accurate as possible! Gaps can be formed when there’s more than an 8 hour gap OR when your blood sugars change too quickly. Hope this helps :)

thanks! so far i haven’t really had any inaccuracies with my libre in the first day, but who knows, maybe i have and i just haven’t noticed 🤷🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️ i’ll have to try that out
@siubhanward7631
@siubhanward7631 4 года назад
sarah priscilla it’s weird you say that cause mines is never really inaccurate either but I’ve heard of other people’s being - there’s a group on Facebook called “freestyle libre users” and it’s really helpful - there’s a way to turn your FSL into a cgm that shows your continuous blood sugar on your watch!! And whether you’re steady/rising/dropping so join it and get aaaall the tips and tricks!

haha don’t worry, i’ve learned a LOT more about managing my diabetes since this video! now i eat pretty much the same as i did before i was diagnosed (so i don’t limit my carbs or anything lol), but i’ve figured out pre-bolusing timing a bit more, and i just switched short acting insulins, so my blood sugar is more under control!

Hi Sarah, I'm fairly new to T1D as well. Well, it's been a year but still. I'm an adult-onset case and I'm Honeymooning so things change for me all the time. I just wanted to share my experience with the Libre. Mine was always about 2 points off and it was especially obvious if I was lower or higher. I decided pretty quickly that it wasn't good enough for me, so I started on Dexcom and it made a world of difference. Just an FYI the Contour Next One Meter is one of the most accurate Meters on the market, so you have a good one there :) Eating somewhat lower carb is fine, I do the same. I hate the spikes I see when I eat a carb heavy meal, especially since I don't yet have an "insuln to carb" ratio. I too pre-bolus, and I've worked it up to about 20 minutes ahead and that seems to help. Anyway, I thought I'd touch base since you're on the newer side like me. :)
@sarahpriscilla_
@sarahpriscilla_ 4 года назад
thanks for the comment! it’s nice to see someone who’s also somewhat new to all of this currently my parents’ insurance covers the freestyle libre completely, so i’ll probably stick with it for now. but it hasn’t been as inaccurate recently so that’s been good and i also need to figure out my insulin to carb ratio! it just takes time i guess haha
@ThePJmommy
@ThePJmommy 4 года назад
@@sarahpriscilla_ Oh yes, stick with it if it's covered. It is after all, better than pricking your fingers. :) Were you told if you were Honeymooning still or are you completely insulin dependent? I'm curious because I feel like I'm the only one out there that is Honeymooning.
@sarahpriscilla_
@sarahpriscilla_ 4 года назад
my nurses said i’m still in the honeymoon phase too i think i give myself the same amount of bolus insulin as someone who has had diabetes for a while, but i’m on a really low dosage of basal

Do all diabetics start with long lasting insulin? Or does it just depend on the person?
@sarahpriscilla_
@sarahpriscilla_ 4 года назад
it depends on if you have type 1 or type 2 diabetes. i have type 1, so i don’t know as much about type 2, but all type 1 diabetics use long and short acting insulin. the short acting insulin is to cover the carbs you eat, and the long acting insulin is to cover the glucose that your body secretes
@ekwrocks
@ekwrocks 4 года назад

How did you tell everyone about ur diabetes? It’s a challenge to tell anyone about me since I am overweight but I am a type 1 diabetic and not everyone knows that type 1 diabetes is an autoimmune disease. Please help :)
@sarahpriscilla_
@sarahpriscilla_ 4 года назад
to be honest, i usually don’t tell people until it comes up in conversation, like if they ask me about my freestyle libre sensor or if i have to eat something in the middle of when we’re doing work but to the people i have told, i usually say something along the lines of “it’s an autoimmune disease where my body attacked my pancreas and now it has stopped producing insulin, which regulates blood sugar, so i have to give my body insulin myself.” if you want to differentiate from having type 2, you can say type 1 is irreversible and you’re completely dependent on insulin forever
