I'm so excited to finally be visiting Pune in Maharashtra, India after having it on my bucket list for several years already. Pune is not really a major tourist destination, but as the 6th biggest city in India and the capital of Maratha Empire, Pune has a rich cultural life and history that goes back several centuries. Unlike Mumbai/Bombay which is better known globally and more significant in the context of colonial history, Pune is a city of Indian heritage and history specifically. It's easy to see why the Marathi people are so proud of their history and state. I've been planning this tour in great detail and I hope you enjoy Pune's greatest sights with us! In this first part of my Pune videos, we visit the magnificent Shaniwar Wada, Lal Mahal and the famous Ganpati temple.

Dear Johanna.. so you read the history and memorized it too!..You are a perfect guide😘 Thank you for giving us a tour of Pune, where I have never been. And darling Annika in her cute little outfit added extra fun🥰 Oh and sugarcane juice 😋.. I still remember my sister’s scolding! upon my last visit When she heard I had that juice in a city!.. loved every drop😂 Looking forward to your blogs with your mom😍

I’ve always loved reading about history and my brain and memory is just crazy occupied with such essential info as years and dates 😅 but works perfectly with a thing like this! 🙏 I’m so happy we have always been quite lucky when it comes to sugarcane juice, no tummy issues ever! Loooove it and no regrets 😋 Just one more Pune video and my mom will be in the videos again too 🥰

Honestly Johanna, you are a really good storyteller. I am mesmerized by the way you describe thoughts, feelings, emotions and facts in your videos and your Insta captions/stories. There is not a single video of yours that hasn't left me with a sense of contentment and peace. Life's not always easy and videos such as yours give a much needed respite from the near constant stress and chaos. Thankful to have found your channel. Looking forward to seeing your mum in the videos soon. Lots of love to you and your little family!

Great video, Johanna & wonderful to see Pune; never visited. I am absolutely enthralled by elephants, so Ganesh is fav (Nataraj too). Planning now a trip to Africa to finally see the African elephant in its rightful environment. It will be next year in May but I hv been waiting for this all my life, and the excitement is already keeping up at night. Elephants are magical, and so very special I tear up just seeing them. Love them to pieces, my fav wild animal. Travel is a wonderful thing; enjoy while you can. Greetins as usual fm my little 🇵🇹

Hi there Glad you could make it to my hometown! I am still on my trip to Pune and heading back to a not so lively NJ on Sunday!! But family beckons... So got little choice 😂 Every time i come, i get a culture shock with the way things are changing, and sometimes, not always for the good. But as they say, home, it's still home. Hello Annika, not sure when the video was shot but if in the last 3 weeks.. Oh what were the chances of me accidentally popping into one of your shots:-) ♥️ From Pune and always, keep smiling. Be well and all that...
@JohannaNorth
@JohannaNorth 2 года назад
We were there earlier in May, enjoying through the heat wave 😅🥵 i can understand that shock you get there! Vinod gets the same when we go to his villages, or i get when i go to my home in Finland. It’s the same, but still… not at all the same. Even now when we travelled to the Himalayas of himachal after 6 years we were in for a shock. Time and memories are crazy, i guess! Sometimes difficult to appreciate the progress and new things around 😊

Welcome in Maharashtra....you simply great...but only thing is British never attacked Shaniwar Wada...on 27 February 1828, a great fire started inside the palace complex. The conflagration raged for seven days. Only the heavy granite ramparts, strong teak gateways and deep foundations and ruins of the buildings within the fort survived which we see. Hope you will like Maharashtrian food...!!

EXCELLENT VIDEO JOHANNA THIS WAS JUST MY THING 😀❤️😀 THANK YOU FOR THE HISTORY LESSONS THEY WERE SUPER. SIMILAR TO YOU.... I AM FAR MORE USED TO THE RURAL PARTS OF INDIA SO BIGGER CITIES ALSO OVERWHELM ME. IM IN DHARAMSHALA AT THE MOMENT BUT UNFORTUNATELY ITS OVER CROWDED AND SIMILAR TO NEW DELHI RIGHT NOW AS ITS SUMMER HOLIDAY TIME AND FULL OF TOURISTS WHO TRAVEL HERE FROM DELHI. SADLY ITS CAUSING ALOT OF TRAFFIC POLLUTION, DANGER ON THE ROADS AND HOARDS OF RUBBISH. I DO UNDERSTAND THAT INDIA IS A DEVELOPING COUNTRY..... BUT IT IS ASTOUNDING THAT MANY PEOPLE HERE ARE HIGHLY PROFESSIONAL AND WEALTHY YET THE STREETS DONT HAVE PAVEMENTS. THATS THE DEVELOPMENTAL PATTERN I GUESS BUT IT DOES CONFUSE ME. AND I AM ANXIOUS WHILST AROUND DANGEROUS ROADS. I FEEL LIKE SHIT SOMETIMES BECAUSE IF I TRY TO DISCUSS IT OR EXPRESS IT THEN I AM TOLD THAT I AM AGAINST INDIA. BUT I AM NOT AGAINST INDIA. SURELY IT WOULD BE BETTER FOR EVERYONE IF POLLUTION WAS REDUCED. INDIA HAS MAJOR HISTORICAL, RELIGIOUS AND CULTURAL DEPTH WHICH IS VERY INTERESTING AND I LOVE THE MODERN RESTAURANTS. BUT YES THERE ARE POLLUTION ISSUES WHICH REQUIRE ATTENTION AS ITS A HEALTH CONCERN
@JohannaNorth

Ah i would love to visit Dharamshala one day and spend a bit of time there for meditation, dalai lama, peace etc, but vinod keeps telling to tone down my expectations due to the very same issues you mention here… 😄 we were just in the southern part of himachal which i love so so much, but it has changed A LOT in the past 6 years. But once you get out of those crowded areas it is just so wonderful. Though probably those places will become crowded too in the next 5 years or so 😕
@travellingyoginikas
@travellingyoginikas 2 года назад
@@JohannaNorth yes i totally agree. Once you are away from the crowds it is ever soooo BEAUTIFUL. I think Vinod is correct on terms of the temple areas in Dharamshala and wanting to do meditation and see the Dali Lama etc as it's too overcrowded with way too much rubbish pollution and traffic pollution. However you guys can come to Dharamkot and relax sooooo much. Dharamkot is also in Dharamshala but its peaceful to the extreme. You will love it Johanna.
