That’s super exciting that you got accepted into the nursing program! It’s definitely super challenging but I’ve enjoyed learning in the program more than taking all the prerequisites. And thank you, I got the job and I’m excited to be working over summer :)!
Thanks for sharing about what it is like to be in nursing school. My daughter is interested in becoming a nurse. So, I am going to share your video with her.
Hi Katherine! I don't know if you remember, but I commented a while back saying that I was interested in doing nursing at UCF. I just had a few more questions that I was hoping you could answer :) - Is the main campus nursing program as hard to get into as people make it out to be? If so, do you have any tips on what somebody can do in order to get ahead/stand out? - How are the pre-req classes in terms of difficulty/preparedness for nursing? - I remember you mentioned something about getting into the honors college and being able to bypass the TEAS exam. Would you be able to go into more detail on this process? Thank you so, so much for your help. I honestly appreciate it. I wish you good luck on the rest of your semester.
Hi Kaitlin! I do remember you! I hope you're doing well :) I'd be happy to help answer a couple more questions. 1. I will say that it is pretty competitive to get into the main campus nursing program, but it is definitely possible. If you go on the UCF College of Nursing website, you can view the statistics of the students admitted to each campus (like the average GPA, TEAS score, etc) and that might help you get a better idea of what admissions are like for each campus. I'll link the admission statistics below if you're interested! As to tips on getting ahead and standing out, unfortunately, the only things they really look at for admissions are your grades in the prerequisites (as well as your overall GPA), and your TEAS score. My biggest tip would be to try as hard as you can to earn good grades in your prerequisite classes, and to prepare yourself to do well on the TEAS. As for the TEAS exam, taking practice tests beforehand helped me a lot with the styles of questions as well as timing. I used the book called "ATI TEAS Secrets Study Guide", and found it to be really helpful because it contains practice tests as well as review of content. 2. As for the prerequisite courses, they vary a lot in difficulty. I definitely struggled the most with Microbiology, Anatomy, and Physiology. These are all 4 credit hour classes with a lab requirement, where your typical college class is only 3 credit hours. My biggest advice here would be to try to space these classes out if possible so that you don't end up with two of these "heavy" classes in the same semester. All of the prerequisite classes form a really good foundation for the skills and content that you will start learning once you're in nursing school, and I feel like the content in nursing school does build on these prerequisite classes. For example, in nursing school you will take Pathophysiology, which goes deeper on a lot of the content you learn in Physiology. 3. At UCF, if you are admitted to the Honors College and have a certain SAT score (I think it is over 1350, but it may have changed in the past couple years), you will be directly admitted into the College of Nursing without having to take the TEAS. Unfortunately, I was not able to do this because I joined the Honors College through their "Second Year Entry" program, so I was not in the Honors College my freshman year. To have the best chance of this happening for you, I would definitely recommend applying to the Honors College before your freshman year. If you are admitted to the Honors College, I would suggest meeting with one of the Honors College advisors to talk about your specific eligibility for the direct admission to the College of Nursing. I hope this is helpful, and I wish you the best of luck! Let me know if you have any more questions :)
Thank you so, so much! I appreciate you taking the time to help out and explain everything :) I'll definitely be applying to the honors college and hope to get in next year. I wish you good luck in all your future endeavors
@@JordanandKatherine i’m an incoming freshman at ucf and interested in nicu nursing as well! thank you so much for taking the time to share this information and advice. i wish you both luck on this semester and your interviews !! just subscribed to your channel ! :)
Honestly, I took a week and took a bunchhhh of practice tests out of this “ATI TEAS Secrets“ book (I think that’s the name 🙃). I probably should’ve taken longer to study but I got lucky and was happy with my first score so that was it!
