As as black 20 years old junior web developer male, this gave me a lot of inspiration especially coming from a country like Nigeria where people my age are labelled as bad people. But it's all good
Hey Mike! Great video man. Took some time off away from the grind, hustle and bustle, and we're back finally! LOL As usual very refreshing and inspiring. The wife and I watch these videos at night, just to get some ideas on how life would be different from others. Turned out that, we want the same thing, and that's happiness.
You should see my life as a software engineer in a startup. I need to wear so many hats. I am a Developer, Tester, DevOps, Technical Writer and IT. I always laugh out loud about those guys who show off in "A day in the life as...". It's RIDICULOUS! The only way to be an excellent software engineer is to work hard, get out of your comfort zone (learn new things) and take any opportunities present (take new challenges and risks) without kissing your superior asses or step on your coworker's toes. I got promoted in one year doing that and had a lot of respects from my peers and the CEO.
likes your video alot. Im planning to change my career to SWE. Dont know anything bout this field and still deciding which career path I need to take but hopefully I make it through.
1:25 What bank is that? Never seen that logo and the card is beautiful. Really enjoyed the video, and for a moment I thought that the important event was playing Far Cry after work xD (Can relate).
You were really great at 22. Can I just say start getting serious at 20 now, what advice can you give? It’s a strange question, but it feels like all my peers have already moved on in there's 20.
im 20 now and i've had that same feeling; you should retrospect and see what you liked to do and see if you want to pursue one of those things a lot more. Or, you can go through multiple sites talking about jobs in general and see which interests you to learn more about it. I did this when I was 18 and found Software Engineering and now, I'm about to be a junior undergrad practicing for intern coding interviews at faang. It's never too late so don't get freaked out by it. Good luck
Thanks for the reply! I am so freaking excited to start working. 41yo/ career change. Not looking to get rich quick. I stepped down a rabbit hole during lay offs in the soft skills industry. And fell madly in love with all things engineering/computer science/cloud engineering/security I’ve always looked up to engineers and programmers, writing myself off as “too old”, “too poor”, “wrong degree”. Started by taking basic TYPING classes to teach myself how to type. I’m now on my way to multiple certs. Job offers. The future is bright. I genuinely look up the people like you who found a calling, pursued an advanced degree in their calling, and now are successful in their field. And while success looks different to everybody, I am hungry for a life of freedom. I genuinely believe if you have your expectations and goals set out correctly, that a job in the tech industry can provide freedom if you are willing to put your mind to work.
Hey Michael, I am a junior at college and a bio major. I have always been informed of the rewarding career in medicine but after some information on IT I thinks it’s definitely an intriguing field. I’m 2 years into my bio degree. I want an easy going life where I can earn really good money(200k) and travel and definitely provide for family. I understand location is key for money but essentially I want to live a more than comfortable life wherever I settle. The medical line is definitely rewarding but extremely challenging and long. I just want to ask what are possibilities of making it to a happy stage in IT field. Anyone wanna give any advice I’m open for it.
biased but computer science is more foundational and more theoretical. Software engineering is more practical. People usually study computer science to become software engineers
Again, it depends. If you’re good with a little math, and some foundational theory, CS is good for you. If you’re very practical focussed. Like want to be a web/mobile app dev then software engineering
For me the factors that primarily impact eating at a restaurant is the city I live in, speed, and the place I’m at in life. I usually order takeout because I’m mostly busy working during the day but in smaller cities where ordering food is not as fast I just go to a restaurant or some people cook. So it’s mostly speed for me.
