This was the best "Day in the life of a teacher" video that I've seen! I'm 21 and just recently decided that teaching is what I want to do in life and your videos make me so excited to teach!!
i like when you get the kids together and talk about any problems that are going on. its a good way for them to be open and know they are in a safe space.
I want to thank you for not only putting up this video but all your other videos. Currently I'm a senior in High School and will be entering into a Bachelor of Arts in September. In the past few months or so I've been thinking about the future and suddenly my being an Elementary School teacher really just clicked into place and I suddenly realized what I wanted to do with the rest of my life. Seeing these types of videos is just solidifying this plan and helps me see just what I could be doing after University, which is extremely helpful.
Imogen Lee same with me! I'm currently in my first year of college for pre-nursing, but I feel like it isn't for me. Being an elementary teacher is what I feel in my heart is what I want to do! 😊
Hey girl! I'm actually in nursing school right now, getting my bachelor's degree, and I'm a junior. It took me this long to realize that nursing really isn't for me, and so in the fall I'll be pursuing a degree in elementary education. My advice is to pursue what feels right to you. I actually decided to take the leap after reading an article written by a nurse that was documenting advice from patients that were on there death bed, and one of them said that you don't want to be 92 and wondering 'what if'. That was it for me, I knew I was making the right choice. I want to be a teacher until the day they tell me I'm too old to keep up! Good luck to you!
Wow Kindergarten has really changed a lot in 20 years. This looks more like a 1st or 2nd grade classroom to me. When I was in Kindergarten we had play corners (dolls, blocks, dress-up, etc) and it just seems like so much more is expected of 5 year olds academically nowadays.
I'm in the 7th grade about to go in the 8th grade and I literally started laughing when you talked about the diet coke because every single teacher I have had always drinks diet coke lol
Vivian Jones You're gonna love it once you start doing field observations and student teaching I'm in my junior year right now and just started field observations :)
Another great video! I would love to see a video discussing teaching routines at the beginning of the year. You can really tell that your children know what to expect.
I'm 27 and have been teaching English abroad for 3 years. I graduated with my BA in 2016 (unrelated to teaching) and now I've been considered becoming a kindy teacher for the past 2 years. Thanks for this vid.
+raquelrocksful I was hoping this would be beneficial to watch. I remember being a student teacher and you are never fully prepared for the teaching life. Glad you liked it!
I am so glad that I found your channel. I have been teaching adult learners, but I am really passionate about teaching children. This channel has been affirmation of how much I would enjoy teaching elementary. Thanks for inspiring me to pursue my dreams.
I have had my dream of caring for children at my own daycare since I was little, and in a couple days, I will be starting training for the profession. I really love you and your channel :) You are a great teacher and an inspiration to me
I'm a trainee teacher from the UK, your videos are so valuable to me, I'm collating them along with other ideas I have magpied from all my placement schools over the years, in a big folder that I can go to when I finally get my own class next year!! Thank you so much for these videos they're invaluable!! But you start so so early in your school, I take my hat off to you!
I am deeply amazed by how you could continue assessing your pupils despite of the busy day. I'd like to know more of your teaching strategies, techniques, behavior modification methods, and classroom management. I look forward to your new videos. Thank you and have a nice day!
I absolutely loved this video! It was so interesting to see how you lay out your day and it seems like it really works for you! I love how much small group time you plan in your day. I would love to see a video of how you differentiate in your classroom as well as your classroom management philosophy!
+Julia Salvador Julia! You are always commenting and I totally love and appreciate you! Yes, small groups play a huge role in my room and I feel like my kids behave better when I am meeting with small groups. I have written that down and will get it in. Thank you.
I know im late to this but I just wanted to say I love this video. Growing up I always wanted to be a teacher and one day looked up day in the life of a teacher. This was by far the best video I found and still come back and watch this video a ton. I also watch pocket full of primary and when y’all collaborated I lost my mind😂
Teaching is HARD WORK. I have taught many different age ranges but I have to say, kindergarten ('nursery' here in the UK) is a wonderful age to teach (but very challenging). Good luck to all new teachers.
I loved seeing how enriching your program was for your students! I work as a teacher in Canada, and they have recently introduced a play-based approach to learning in kindergarten. Some teachers unfortunately take this as having students just play all day with very little direction or vague centers. This leads to a lot of behavior issues and low reading and writing skills going into grade 1. Watching your video made me nostalgic for the time when kindergarten was about learning and not glorified day care! Please keep up your amazing work :)
I am a Senior in college and I am an Elementary Education major. I start student teaching next month in January! I am very much looking forward to it, but I am nervous as well. I really enjoyed this video!
I am a week away from finishing my teacher education program and this video gets me super excited to work! :) I love how organized you are with everything
It's amazing seeing how many resources and extra space some schools have. You could fit 3 of our classrooms into her classroom with 30 kids (pre covid) in them. This classroom is wonderful
Thanks for the video. I have taught secondary for over a decade, but I've recently accepted a 5th grade elementary school position. This video (and my experience) has made me have a new level of appreciation for K teachers.
What time do you work to? How many hours do you sleep a day? I'm a teacher myself and I once asked you on twitter a question using the hashtag but didn't get your answer to my question haha. I still have loads of questions to ask you because I love your videos and I love and enjoy watching them. They have inspired me and motivated me and made me think that teaching is one of the fantastic and rewarding jobs.
I love this! I think it's awesome that you're kids work a lot in small groups and are so independent during those times. I'm also amazed at how you squeeze in so many things throughout the day, especially assessments. You are a super teacher! You're like my virtual mentor. Thank you for always posting quality content and videos!
+Wileen Hiinani You are so very sweet. I love sharing everything that I have learned and am learning right now! I feel like it makes me a better teacher to connect with you all and be able to collaborate.
I love your videos! Very insightful on what to expect! Im actually in college right now and work with pre-schoolers! My goal is to be a kindergarten teacher as well! It's scary to think about it though....having the classroom and having to teach the children myself, did you ever feel this way when you started as a teacher?
I am a senior in high school and I'm debating or not to be an elementary school teacher and this really helped me think about it more because you have such a great system going on and I love working with kids and I can also see you do as well. Keep up the good work!
So right now I am in 7th grade. I love this video so much. It has made really and I mean REALLY want to be a teacher! So thank you for that. Have an amazing 😉 day.
I'm a teacher in the UK (Upper/secondary school so 11-18 year olds) and you definitely have it a lot more difficult than us, certainly as a secondary teacher! We aren't expected to buy our own resources, clean our own rooms (although if it is VERY messy then we usually will because we don't want to leave it all for the cleaners), and our school day is from 8.50 to 3.30 so not as long as you either. This was a very insightful video, great work!
Hi there! I'm about to be a junior in high school, but I'm thinking about majoring in elementary education in college. I've gotten a lot of negative feedback about being a teacher, especially from teachers themselves, and it's very discouraging. Do you have any feedback or tips?
Don't let anyone discourage you. Teaching is a calling, and if you have that calling you should absolutely become a teacher. The career choice will have its challenges, many of which you will have no control over (politicians deciding what's best for kids when they have never stepped foot in a classroom, curriculums, pacing guides, etc.), but the rewards HIGHLY outweigh those challenges. Teaching is an amazing profession. The feeling you get when a student "gets it" for the first time, or you see that light bulb go off can't be beat. If it's your dream...go for it, or at least explore it. Good luck! I have taught 2nd grade for 3 years. It is the BEST.
Hey girl! I definitely understand where you're coming from. I've wanted to be a kindergarten teacher since my sophomore year in high school. I would always get told that I should set my goals higher and that it doesn't pay well. The comment that really upset me was when people would say "you really want to take care of screaming kids all day?" It made me so mad. But seriously girlie, don't let it discourage you. I'm now an elementary education major at Chapman University and I am so excited to finally be following my dreams. Don't let anyone tell you that you can't accomplish your goals. I believe in you. ❤️ Much love!
Caitlin Rose yes! I just graduated in May & got my very first classroom in August! It's a lot of work but has always been a dream of mine & that outweighs all the "negativity" from ppl in a heartbeat. I love teaching
erikagirl552 That is so comforting to hear. Congrats on all you've accomplished and are continuing to accomplish! I can't wait to get to that point, but for now I'm enjoying every second of the time I get to spend here studying what I love to do. I wish you all the best!
I've been following your videos for about a year now I love them! I just found out I'm moving from 2nd grade to Kinder next year and I couldn't be more excited! Thank you for making all of these videos! You're such an inspiration to me!!!
Fantastic video it's so interesting to see the similarities & differences between how you approach teaching young children in America to how we do in the UK. I can see you are very caring and thoughful about each child, Very inspiring!
I am writing far from where you teach and I literally love your teaching style, students and class order. I've been teaching teenagers for 10 years and now I admire your class.
Thank you so much for saying this, I work in a Montessori and people mostly take it as "just minding kids", but we are doing so much work with kids and we deserve respect.
I am so obsessed with your videos! I am in my first year of my degree in Australia and your channel is what gives me the motivation to get going on my assignments and what gets me excited about working my way through university! Thank you so much! xx
+The Lettered Classroom I can't wait! Once I'm further through my degree I'd love to develop my channel into one like yours! Right now, I'm making videos but it's hard to talk about something you're passionate about when you haven't been in the field :P
This is a wonderful video. I'm in high school 10th grade and wanting to be a 2nd grade teacher. Even though the grade is different it's nice to see what goes on in a classroom and how to be a good teacher. Thank you for the video
I'm currently a Kindergarten Teacher, and I can remember watching this video way before I began my education classes to become a teacher. Your video was an inspiration to my classroom. I do have a question, and I know that you don't teacher kinder any more, but I noticed that your kids at the time were doing a counting jar in the morning and I was wondering did you guys do this everyday in the school year or did you change it up? I've tried morning bins and I've tried a worksheet and I've found that neither of these work for me. I'm trying to get some ideas while we are on Holiday break. Thanks for everything!
Just a reminder OCD is a serious mental disorder, not an adjective. Honest mistake, and honestly an easy one to make in our culture. Love this channel!
Just wanted to say: I'm working on getting my Teaching Certification in Texas and my course had me watch this video and part of my training. I've watching about 17 hours worth of classroom observations at this point and this was probably the most useful. I've now subscribed, and plan to watch more of videos to figure out your organization magic.
7:55 Doesn’t that look like the room of the vine when the teacher trips over the whiteboard and lands face first on the floor, or is it just me again?!🤨🤔
I'm in AL, too!!! I will be a senior in college in the fall. I also want to teach kindergarten. I've been having thoughts like, "What if I am a bad teacher? What if..." I always love to watch these videos to gain my confidence back up!
I love this video!! I've always wanted to be a teacher, but I'm currently in high school for law. lately I've been noticing that law isn't for me, and this video really gave me a feel of how teachers work. i will probably be going to college for teaching now, it just seems to be a better fit for me personally :)
Wow I'm impressed with how organized you are and your classroom management from what all I could see. You seemed so prepared and confident. Really enjoyed watching this and hoping I can take some things I saw in this video with me and use it in my classroom.
I wanted to be an elementary school teacher, I'll be going to college next year and I'm currently helping at my elementary school and watching these videos helps me so much
SO extremely happy that I stumbled across your RU-vid Channel. I am currently in my Junior year in college and switched from law to Elementary Education. Law was cold, and everyone seemed unhappy (I worked in a law firm for 3 years) I am SO happy I finally found my passion, before it was too late..... I just hope I can make it look as easy as you do ;) Thank-you for posting your videos!! Sending warm hugs from Sunny California.
Where is your tan bag from in this video? With the brown leather straps? Amazing video :) I watched this a few months ago but i was just watching again lol
@The Lettered Classroom I can't go to college because it's harder than high school. I already found a job that I want to have in the future. But I realized that I can just volunteer to help out with the lunch ladies at Centennial Elementary School in the future.
I know this was uploaded a while ago, but I want to thank you for uploading this. I am currently a student teacher and I was placed in all virtual classrooms, so I was not able to get hands on experience in the classroom before graduating. This helped so much to learn what to expect!
I see how your class has like 10-15 children. I wish I had something like that. Classes here have a minimum of 20 and most likely you have 25 to 30 or even more. Looks like you're doing a great job by the way!
The Lettered Classroom oh my bad! I only saw 10/15 children at a time. My bad to jumping to conclusions too quickly. I'm going to older children, but I have hugh respect for teachers like you. The creativity you need is incredible. Great to upload a video like this.
Yes, we are off for two months. In my district we are not paid for the two months we have off. Many teachers, such as myself, have part-time summer jobs.
danny ray I've always believed that every classroom needs at least one assistant to help out the teachers. It's ridiculous how much work teachers are expected to do on their own...smh
