Americans is so lucky with their job market. We in Russia don't have that kind of job environment, so we had to start our own companies if we want to live a comfort and happy live.

Hey, I went to an info session at my university, applied for the position online, and went through a series of interviews from there!

A recruiter reached out to me on LinkedIn, also went to their info session at my school, then proceeded with standard interview procedure of applying online, a phone interview, design challenge, and an onsite interview @ SF!

@@rohitux I started out in UX Design really by doing personal projects / participating in hackathons, and looking at other designers' portfolios to learn the UX processes, and how they storytell their projects. cofolios.com has some great portfolios from amazing companies, I learned tons from there! It is unlikely that you'll find an internship before having a solid portfolio, so I would advise constructing a solid portfolio before applying to companies.
