Wow Kym, the took me back to the late 90's!!! I was a Superbike photographer, did one F1 at Silverstone by fluke! The 3/4 days were very similar back then, main difference being film as digital was not up to scratch, but the whole routine of media centre, tabards, grid passes etc so similar although the health and safety back then was less so and as a result access to the trackside seemed more flexible. I loved the few years I did and for 6 months of the year it was solid and I learned so much from many of the old boys that had been around for years doing it, especially as with film I could not afford to take quite so many shots, but learn't the art of panning with the right shutter speed top get that focussed rider, blurred background effect which I still love doing today. Family and married live stopped it for me, but now planning to retire soon at 60 and restart at some level, as I just loved the whole experience of getting to know the organisers, the teams, the riders, their families, just such an experience rich way to be BUT exhausting too - especially carrying kit for for hours walking around the circuit to get that angle, at the right time, in the moment that no one else got (that was the lure for me , seldom achieved though 😁). Interesting. How do you make money? Just fans buying photo products or corporate contracts too? I’m from action sports photography where most photographer revenue comes from the brands.

Carrying all those heavy gear and walking in the entire GP weekend must be tiring and can take a toll to your body. What type of shoes do you wear at a grand prix weekend to lessen leg fatigue? Or do you get a good massage after each GP? Just curious.

This is it. People on youtube blaming camera these days being more and more simple to use with AI and stuff "making everyone a photographer". No. This is the slap back. Try a rather slower and dumb AF and you'll lose your job sooner than you realize. Cameras are mere tools. Some are just easier to work with than others depending on many factors. You won't stop them getting smarter, because you're the only one in charge of calling the shot capturing a moment.

I may be wrong, but I think I saw you on the Sky coverage of the drivers' parade. I think they grabbed a driver just before he hopped into one of the Cobras and I think you were busy shooting away from a low angle.

You make me very curious how do you get the selected photos from your R3 to your dropbox, - do you still have to open the Canon app on your iphone - and then manually select everything and import and upload to dropbox ? love your work !

You don't have any issues with your phone recompressing files when sending images out?

Wow, it sounds like you need an Angela Cullen! So much to remember to pack. Have you ever forgotten anything? Walking that much on a race weekend ensures that you don't need to hit the gym!

Hi Kym interesting video.Just a few questions why not use Canon camera connect and download JPEG to u phone immediately I do this with R5 files it quick. U can do this on the body not been used. Does the 600mm angle of view shoot through the fence gap ?

i'm confused how a photographer makes so much money like kym, i mean he takes first class flights and goes to the lounge area to buy expensive food/drinks, lives in a huge house, has expensive gear. Yet i don't know anyone that buys his photo's... I really want to be a photographer if i can live like this, but i don't know any photographers that actually get paid for there photo's to get advice on how to get paid lol :( it feels like i need to just be rich at the beginning to support it as a "hobby" first before i can actually get paid, or am I wrong?

Walking 48 km?! That seems like too much, but if you're walking back and forth to the different turns, I bet it adds up. Add in the heat and lugging gear, and I can see how you can both eat good meals and still lose weight during the season.
