I have never in my life had the pleasure of dining on a plate of genuine British Fish and Chips such as the ones that you have prepared in your kitchen. It looks delicious to say the least. And as far as Shetland is concerned, it is one of those places - far away and distant - of which I have only read and maybe seen a very occasional video. Thank you for sharing. Perhaps some day I will manage to get to your neck of the 'woods' so to speak and sample some of your delightful food fare as well as the ambience of your company. I'll dress warmly though. Cheers and thank you for sharing!
I love the fish and chips in the UK...and these look delicious. I would prefer tartar sauce over vinegar, with a lemon slice. Perfect. Now I have to figure a way to get the the coast towns that have the best shops and eat my way around the Isles!!
I can't imagine finding this quality anywhere else. And like Chris Taylor said, "The steamed muscles look so so good." Thanks for posting, that was cool.
George Masson no wonder people dislike vegans. So judgemental like they’ve never committed a wrong in their perfect lives. How do you live in this world being so perfect?
I complained to the manager at my local chip shop one day about the fish wasn't cooked, he said how do you know it's not cooked, I said because it's ate all my fucking chip's, have a nice one, be from Mike in UK
I just came across this , I ate in frankies several times throughout 2013/2014, have to agree the meals were delicious, all cooked to order, whilst it appears you don't get many chips, I was full every time I ate there!!
Thanks for sharing...and may just have to be on my bucket list to visit....and for some reason around :20 I get the feeling I'm about to watch an episode of Hamish Macbeth....
Can you please open a shop in NZ. Plenty of beautiful fishing grounds, and lovely snapper, hoki, blue nose, terakahi. Just needs a team who can cook and present.
very few fish and chip shops here in the US. only place to get it as at bars and restaurants. would be nice if they had chip only shops. this looks so good
John Gold Brilliant! A very inspiring tune, stirring and appropriate. Makes me almost feel I'm there - I hope it's available for purchase. Cheers, John!
We are on the Shetland islands...farthest North Isles of the UK. The staff at Frankie's are splendid and the food is exceptional. They all do a great job and Ashley's Coleslaw and Coronation Chicken is superb.
I'd like to see a bit more on how the fish is prepared. What is in the batter. Type and temp of the oil for the fish and for the chips. Type of potato used for the chips.
Fish batter is just flour, eggs and water. Best oil is beef dripping but that is rare these days, most places use rancid tasting vegetable oil which has a bitter aftertaste unless you drown everything in a pint of vinegar. Potatoes need a decent sugar content, not too starchy. Maris Piper is the type I most commonly hear of as a good chipping potato, I think there are better but more rare varieties.
Fish and Chips is the best fast, comfort food, especially, if it's done the English way...I much prefer English-style chips to American-style french fries...Like the hamburger, it's, also, a great equalizer, in that, everyone, from the barrister to the blacksmith eats fish and chips...The Royal family, probably, love eating fish and chips, too...Of course, it's, probably, specially delivered to Buckingham Palace...Pizza and hamburgers are delicious and comforting, but, for me, they can't beat good, English fish and chips...You can't go wrong with a serving of warm, freshly made fish and chips with good tarter sauce and, of course, accompanied by a nice, cold Red Stripe beer or Heineken.
You're quite right. I'm always bumping into the village's blacksmith at the chippy. If it's not the local blacksmith, it's the candle maker or the cobbler.
