Check out a Day in the Life of Olin College student, Walter Villa '23.
Here's a synopsis of the projects mentioned in the vlog:
QEA (Quantitative Engineering Analysis):
"During the first semester of QEA, we focused on learning Linear Algebra in order to be able to replicate facial recognition software. I know right! - exciting stuff! Concepts like PCA, vectorization, matrix multiplication and linear systems of equations were topics that we were able to not only dive deeper into, but to really apply into our final project. The final project included different types of classification, recognition, and distinction. My partner and I decided to take the concept of targeted advertisement and explore what ethical implications it had on privacy and bias while using face data in order to "personalize advertisement." It was a very cool project that we both learned a lot from."
P&M (Products and Markets):
"For our second project in P&M, we were given the task to iterate and pivot from an idea that teams in the class had proposed in the first half of the semester. My team focused on iterating a skill-sharing platform that we also turned into a friend-making platform. We made a prototype website that we then asked Babson, Olin and Wellesley (BOW) students to give us feedback on. Overall, our presentation went really well" 🙂
