Thanks! I always have a scanner with me and sometimes you'll hear info regarding train locations and such. Also, if you know where the defect detectors are and roughly where you are (as in RR milepost), then you'll hear them on the scanner and can use their transmissions to estimate where trains are. Lastly, if you're set up near signals you can at least tell when a train is coming from one direction, or both directions depending on if the signals are approach lit or not.
