This is luxury roofing. We had to tote 80 pound bundles of shingles one at a time Up the ladder and place it on the roof, then go down and get another bundle and repeat until The job was finished. Plus to tear off the old shingles we used a pitch fork and had no machine whatsoever that could just pop everything up nails and all. That is pretty cool tho. And we threw the old roofing and debris off the roof on a tarp and had to lift it or throw it by hand into a dumpster so that sucked too. I wish it would have been like this when I used to roof.lol would have saved a lot of back pain.

@@notsure7874 it is brutal down here. Especially when you pair up summer time with torched roofs. We only do commercial roofs so theres no such thing as anything in one day. @notsure7874
@notsure7874 4 года назад
@@southpaw602 I was on mostly residential, some commercial roofs, but not a ton of them. They're a different animal for sure. Here I was feeling bad for Florida shinglers - forgot all about the guys torching stuff down or doing hot mop (do they even do that here?) Up "north" you see more hot mop than torch down, but no hurricane codes. I'd say that I'd rather do TPO down here, but all that white and the bright sun could make y ou go snowblind too. Screwed either way! I try to explain to friends up north that temperature and humidity isn't everything. Being closer to the equator, the sun is more intense. More rays per square inch and whatnot. 85 here feels closer to 92 there. They don't get it! I've actually been wonderiing - I see a lot of torch down here where I'd see self adhering up there (on residential, more BUR on commercial). Is SA not allowed even on residential (idk if you know res codes ...)? All I know about it is no more 3 tabs, double nail decking, 6 nail shingles, drip edge on all edges, no overhang, and cement the shingles down to the drip edge. - Oh and metal tabs for underlayment instead of plastic. I've got to do my roof probably next year (be my first roof in 5 years) and I've got a small flat I'm not sure how I can do it here. I'm not torching down anything myself. I have a hand torch for the garden, but I'm not putting fire on my roof! Torch down has always terrified me.

Have you tried a hook blade on an ocsilating tool? its slick. We try pretty hard not to do weaved valleys here in Maine. With the snow load and temp fluctuations they are always the first point of a roof to fail. The cut valleys last alot longer in our neck of the woods.

Good point Eric. You'll notice that we put underlayment at the peak so we could stage the shingles. Of course the rest of the underlayment was then brought up under that to properly shed water.

60FpsGoodness it depends where you live. In high heat and windy areas clay roofs are best. Not so good for the weight of snow. Shingles also install faster, lighter, they don't break and if they tear there is a something under to protect your roof because of the way shingles overlay.

he asked why houses are made of wood. and we used to use wood shingles as well, shakes. then we moved to more modern types of roofing materials. wood is plentiful here. places that use brick/slate and other types of material probably do so because they don't have a large logging industry.
