Finally, a day with less intense heat, a gentle breeze, and mostly cloudy skies, for a pleasant day exploring the outdoors. Today's adventure brought me to the Ravedis Dam in the Friuli Region of Italy. It is a peaceful location where observing nature is easy and an invitation to slow down, rest, and recharge.
The purpose of this dam is for flood control, irrigation, and power. The construction of this big hydraulic work began in 1986 and ended in 2014, it was troubled and took a long time. It was interrupted several times due to the lack of funding and to the geo-structural problems that had emerged. The construction of the dam is one of the most important hydraulic works carried out in northern Italy in the last decades. It was part of the ingenious and futuristic project started in the late 1800s, which aimed at using the water of the Cellina river for the production of electricity and for irrigation purposes.
