In the f35 the new Sidewinder has vectored thrust and can be fired at a targets behind the aircraft..

@Inv1ns1bl yes, the new AIM-9X Sidewinder is advertised as being able to hit a target behind the aircraft.

That's what they thought when the F-4 was designed. No internal gun until the E-model. Every fighter since has had a cannon. There are three things every fighter pilot wants more of... altitude, gas, and bullets. Swirling furballs (dogfights) are not a thing of the past.

@@tango_uniform Only the A variant of the F35 has an internal gun. The gun is like foot soldiers carrying a knife, more of a general purpose tool and if you have to use it something has gone very wrong.

To inform you how fast the AF-18 wing materials deteriorated. The standard metal construct starts creating micro fractures. They are really hard to detect, dudes and dudettes. They infest themselves at the joints where the wings meet the fuselage. They can only be seen by ultrasonic detection by engineers.

@@alexturnqest6202My time was in the early 90s (yep, I'm old☺). I lost my flight spot due to cutbacks (we all did at Detachment 75😣) and ended up flying for UPS for a career.I chose AFSC 11. Would have loved F but A or B would have been just as great...

@@myplane150 hey UPS sounds amazing!! 😍 you lucked out haha I want to be in your shoes one day seriously I’m very jealous of you, I’m actually making plans to join the Air Force reserves next as a medic so i can help afford flight school (its about 90k now) and I also used to be a cadet at Det 157 embry riddle. My dream was to fly B-1 Lancers then fly for fedex when i retired. but now I’m kinda doing it backwards i guess. Lol I ironically just took my first discovery flight in about 15 years last night (I’m 24 now) and i was left speechless. I was scared and excited all at the same time in that Cessna but god there was nothing like it. I want more!! Haha flying is addictive but hard work. I like that. Now my new dream is to fly for any of the big cargo airlines, i like the sound of Atlas Air or fedex but I’ve heard that UPS is pretty cool as well. Flying cargo seems extremely underrated compared to flying airlines and i like the fact there’s more opportunities to fly the widebodies like the 747 and 777. Honestly any tips advice for a future pilot wannabe spud would be greatly appreciated :)
