Pam here…I am a retired wedding florist. Cut your stems as LONG as you can from the garden. You can strip off the lowest leaves fast with you your hand pulling down the stem. Don’t put any leaves below the waterline. Sun the stem end on angle to alllow the most surface area to pull up water. Keeping your blooms in the fridge will help them last longer in the market. Longer stems allow your customers to be able to make taller larger bouquets. !
I don’t know if you know it or not but I’ve been watching the veggie boys since the very early days and I was actually the one to suggest AND GIRLS! Because it was easy to see there were a lot of women behind those veggie boys helping them do what they do especially the matriarch Grammy! I hope you gave her a bouquet of sunflowers to say thank you for sharing all her special recipes with you and ultimately us! Grammy is AWESOME she is my favourite veggie person and PLEASE PLEASE spend as much time with her as you can because one day hopefully in the far far future you will wish you had, I would love to have another chance to spend more time with my Grammy. Sending hugs from Toronto, Ontario, Canada!🥰❤️🙏🏻🍁🇨🇦
Loved this weeks video. I loved walking the farm. I loved the perfect sunflowers. I loved the store. I just wish I lived closer and could include your store in my shopping.
That video was a fun change of pace. Your intro cracked me up. It's great that we get videos from Andrew, Joel, and now you. Basically all the same business (I know the stable is a separate business, but it's attached to the market and Joel often helps in the veggie boy fields) and all the same family, but shown from totally different perspectives makes it feel like we are behind the scenes with you
easy fix for flowers that kinda fall over is to use a rubber band around the stems after you arrange them in your hand like a bouquet. Love all you guys!
You need to cut them longer for longer life while in the store, Been a florist for more than 30 years. The longer the stem until arranged the better. and a fresh cut when ever they are out of water for more than a minute or so. The are very beautiful.
When cutting fresh flowers, do so in a bucket/sink/bowl of water on an angle. The first thing flowers want to do when their stems are cut is suck in water. Fill a vase about 1/2 -.3/4 full with fresh water with 1/4 - 1/2 teaspoon sugar. Repeat this process every four or five days. This process extends the life of fresh flowers by at least a week. When I get fresh flowers for Mother's Day, I follow this process and they last almost one month. Great video. I did not know sunflowers were planted on the farm. Yay! See you in the next one.
Sadie you are so sweet….glad you’re a part of that family. How did the two of you meet? Do you have any yummy veggie recipes from your family or you have created. Do you live at the house like Andrew did? You are so blessed to have a close knit family like the Oches.
Nice to see some content from the ladies! Getting tired of Andrew and Joel's faces LOL. I've subscribed. EDIT to add: seeing more of the store activity is awesome, I know Andrew hits on it sometimes but more day to day activity would be awesome.
Sadie I think you should do more videos like this!!! I don’t know if you know it or not but I’ve been watching the veggie boys since the very early days and I was actually the one to suggest AND GIRLS! Because it was easy to see there were a lot of women behind those veggie boys helping them do what they do especially the matriarch Grammy! The wife's are all so Beautiful .just a thought I have posted this request before and didn't get a response can all the girls and grammie do a cook book they will sell like crazy .love from Canada 🇨🇦
Thanks for showing a Veggie Girls perspective. Can you add some back in the kitchen store to see what Gramny is making/canning too? How do you prepare enough meals to feed large numbers of hungry veggie boys?
Really enjoyed the video. Takes me back a little over 10 years ago when I was working at a local grocery store. Was a stocker and cross trained into produce. One day stocking shelves, the next husking bushels of corn into prepped packages. Even got use a pineapple corer to package pineapple. We had similar scales that would print labels with prices and weights. I think you all have the benefit of having others around to talk to. I was fortunately able to play music while I worked, but otherwise it was just me in the produce room.
Outside of St. Louis, there are Acres of Sunflowers in a Nature Preserve Area and people driving through the Area stop by and take a Lot of pictures. Beautiful. 👍
The viewing audience would like an Ochs Farm Market/Grammy’s Cookbook to purchase. In addition, aprons and maybe mugs or water bottles would be a great option too! Certainly would make great Christmas gifts!! Love this family and all the videos.
A great video I love the sunflowers. We just gotta get Mrs Sadie to talk a little bit louder cause I had a hard time hearing her and my TV is up loud but I sure do love y’all‘s video. I hope your channel grows quickly.
This is great! We finally get to see the Market side of the biz! You were considerate to put up a smiley face on the customers. Its funny, kinda felt like a fly on the wall getting to see everything! This is an amazing family. It's refreshing to see how you all work together so well.
Now this is the video I have been asking for. Love the Veggie Girl perspective. Sadie how about following a customer home and video what they do with produce, such as canning or cooking. Same with your restaurants and grocery stores. Keep up the great job.
Getting to this request late so I might repeat it on your next video: please make some kohlrabi recipes. 2 or 3 if possible - they seem to be a regional favorite yet most people I know don't have a clue 😍
While they aren't a "guy thing " have you considered planting little patches of flowers through scatter sowing a row's width and 4' long every so often in some of your rows? Some quick and easy growers on longer stems like zinnia and cosmos?
I love the videos so much but I hope soon you’re able to get a better camera with better audio. There’s many parts where I can’t understand much or anything you say.
I'd love to know what you were cooking with the zucchini! Our plants just started producing and after sneaking zucchini into almost every meal for the last couple weeks, I'm trying to figure out what else I can do with the extras (besides giving bagfuls of them to our neighbor who likes to make zucchini bread)!
Zucchini relish is great, also just shred some and freeze in amounts you'll use in a recipe and sneak it into a lot of stuff all winter, may have to drain some liquid. Also baked stuffed zucchini is great and ratatouille.
I agree . There zucchini bread video was good. lol I've been making zucchini muffins, zucchini fritters, using them in stuffed peppers. I found some videos on zucchini soup, zucchini tacos, zucchini pancakes savory and sweet, etc.
Thank you for another cool vid. I have a question about your eggs - I think that, from watching The Veggie Boys, you don’t wash the eggs - if that is the case, why do you bother refrigerating them? xx
