I really like this video and appreciate that you are doing more than giving us tactics and strategies for dealing with clutter in our lives. It is obvious that you are doing a lot of research and study concerning "why" we are the way we are. I am 82 yo and would love for you to do a deep dive into Swedish death cleaning.
Love it when you interview Dr’s, psychiatrist, self-help people! If we are at a place in life where our home and our possessions are overwhelming us, there are unconscious, psychological reasons for it. If we figure out what is going on inside and address it, the outside of our lives will change.
Unrelated to this podcast, #1 Q I ask myself when decluttering: Where did this come from? If it was a gift, 8 times out of 10, I didn't choose it or ask for it so it's very easy to offload. "Where did this come from" helps me identify how it came into our house. I've received clothes from friends; so sweet but I didn't choose them. They weren't my color, etc. Easy to offload. "Where did this come from/How did it enter our house?" really helps dig deeper.

9:02 Lack of object permanence from ADHD is a HUGE contributor to my clutter and mess! It's like things stop existing the second I put them down! 😄 Luckily my brain and nervous system nonetheless feel MASSIVELY better when I put things away and declutter. Huzzah! 🌿😃🍀
I retired in the beginning of 2020 just as Covid and lockdowns hit. I’m still trying to recover and find out who I am. I was so tied up in my job identity. I feel kind of lost now! I do have goals. Just need to act on them - I’ve been doing well these last few weeks and starting to get my groove on I think. Great podcast!!!
I love nature for mindfulness. It happens so easily there with the kids. And adults. Feeling leaves looking at flowers. Listening to water and feeling water and wind and grass and looking for rocks and bugs and clovers.
I love her. I dont think i have ever heard from her before. I circle in the adhd wprld a lot. She is amazing. Great interview Dawn. She is spot on with everything she says. And many moms with ADHD are super over whelmed and over stimmulated and getting in a calmer state can be so hard or feels impossible because we are always so stressed.

About not seeing the mess anymore..I suggest going away for a weekend. When you come home you will see what needs to be done. I love the mindfulness practice that your guest shared.
One way I’ve overcome the guilt on doing things for myself is including my daughter in “relaxing” hobbies she loves sitting down and working on puzzles with me and if one seeing or crocheting I find ways for her to help with the project or give her scraps she can “work” on her own. If I’m really overwhelmed we just sit and play with playdoh or fingerprints and follow up with a lavender bubble bath for her which helps me relax too small steps are ok to make the progress I think many times we forget we don’t need to make huge leaps
Such a great guest! I’m a parent of a special needs daughter too and i’ve been following a similar path of decluttering and mindfulness. It has been monumentally life changing! 🍃 We have transitioned from a stressful life to one that is calm and relaxed. It’s been a lot of work and has taken about 3 years but it’s made all the difference for both of us. My greatest wish is that everyone can discover this lifestyle and benefit from it. Thank you both for helping to get the word out!

Object permanence - I Def don't see my "clutter"! (ADHD mom). So hard. I have a good friend also with ADHD. She's so organized b/c she throws everything away. I'm trying to learn from her 😂
Wow. I wonder if she was meant to be a doctor because if her own childrens future needs! I my self have kids with food sensitivities and i went to culinary school. I am always adjusting recipes and am not intimidated doing that. And we have had to do things from scratch. I also have a love for studying ADHD. I have it myself and my three kiddos have neurodiversities. 😊 Patenting definitely has effectes my knowlege and used skills i already had too.
I have a question for Leonaura... when we were rubbing our hands together the friction of my fingers together was very unpleasant. very hard to tolerate. I wonder why
As I've gotten older, I've noticed how different people experience touch. I will not buy a piece of clothing that is not either soft or silky, and it must be comfortable to wear. The same with furniture, sheets, towels, etc. Most people are more interested in fashion and the textures don't bother them. Rubbing my hands together doesn't bother me because I'm always cold and the heat feels good! 😅
thanks for listening. Interesting... I've come across some other people who don't like it. Perhaps sensory sensitivities. I wonder if you'd benefit from persevering.
