Welcome to the BABYMETAL Foxhole🦊great reaction/analysis ... and very cool lights.😎As you worked out this was not the show opener, it was somewhere roughly midway through - they do have intros like this for a lot of their songs to set the mood (and to give them a chance to grab a drink of water and set themselves for the choreo etc) since each song is different to the last ... they have about 70 songs now (only one of them is 'Gimme Chocolate'). This was a compilation video with footage from the BABYMETAL Returns concerts at Makuhari Messe in January 2023 (their first live shows in nearly 2 years following a 12 month or more hiatus) and the BABYMETAL Begins concerts at PIA Arena in Yokohama on 1st and 2nd April. You were absolutely right about "Team BABYMETAL" and how everybody involved - stage designers, lighting, sound, musicians in the Kami Band who support BABYMETAL in all their live shows and BABYMETAL (the 3 young ladies) are all right at the top of their respective craft ... and I think most of them have been with them right from the start. Their traditional opening number was always 'BABYMETAL Death', but they stopped playing that after 2017 when one of the original trio (Yuimetal) was unable to perform and then left the band in October 2018. They revealed their new official third member (Momometal) at the end of the first PIA Arena concert in April last year ... and 'BABYMETAL Death' was back on the set list as the first encore song on the second night. It was the opener again for all their shows since then (that was nearly 100 concerts in 2023, I lost count of shows so far this year) You may be interested to see how they hype the crowd with 'BABYMETAL Death'. You could start with the original, but a very special performance where they used it as the finale for Su-metal's 16th birthday celebration in December 2013 (look for 'BABYMETAL Death' live at Legend 1997) and then watch the live at PIA Arena to see how they used it to really introduce the crowd to Momometal in her first show as an official member.
Thank you for taking the time for this analysis! BABYMETAL often get criticized for not being TRVE, because the girls don't write the songs or don't play instruments (which I find a pretty weird accusation to make towards singers and dancers). But one thing that's pretty hard to deny is the quality of their shows. And I think that that's only possible because of this fact. BABYMETAL is a big team, and every person only does what they are most proficient in (with very few exceptions like Su taking part in the dancing and the dancers doing backing vocals). Su sings, Moa and Momoko dance, there are song writers, lighting people, management people, sound people, professional instrumentalists, a dedicated choreographer etc. You never get a show of that quality if the "band members" do all of that themselves. But hey, at least you can say that you formed "organically" in a garage.
Great reaction and analysis, I actually learned a lot! You’re also right with a few guesses: This song was in the middle of the setlist. Babymetal does add extended song intros throughout a concert so the ladies and the band can take a breather and tidy up, get some water, etc. You’re also right on a “bombastic” concert intro. For both the “Babymetal Begins” at Pia Arena (day 2) show and “Babymetal Returns” at Makuhari Messe show, they used the song Metal Kingdom. The ladies entered the stage seated on massive thrones akin to Game of Thrones. Via moving platforms for one show, and a stage elevator on the other. Great reaction/analysis, thanks! They opened with "Metal Kingdom" (which is an epic song and performance) both concerts included in this compilation video. Yes, they are incredible performers, their band (Kami Band) is formed by top notch musicians. Their technicians, choreographers, songwriters and every single person in their staff is the best in their position. And their fans are the most dedicated, enthusiast, nice and kind individuals I've ever seen. All these people are known as The ONE. Enough said. 😁 🤘🦊
Welcome & thanks from Japan 有難う💛。This is a compilation video from two shows in 2023. I witnessed both at the two venues including a moving one when Momoko was inducted into BABYMETAL officially. I sang the ♪ oh oh ohoo ♪ part with Momometal with my loudest voice in the show holding my phone. I was in bliss, for sure! The flying drones with cameras that enabled the beautiful aerial cinematograph were manipulated by experts including Ms. Shiraishi. She is a member of team Japan for World Drone Racing Championship. Our Kami Band played in the girls' back. They have supported BABYMETAL since 2019. Japanese fans always appreciate the devoted support like knights by Chris, CJ, Anthony, Clint and Ryan. They are really unsung heroes.
Monochrome is the more relaxed energy song they play mid set to give the audience a breather before the high energy run to the finish of the set; on this particular occasion it was the eighth song of a fourteen song set. Monochrome is from their newest album, The Other One, which doubles down on the more serious and mature style that begin with their 2019 album Metal Galaxy. As they are all grown up now, they have moved away from the super cute style of Gimme Chocolate that they did when they were kids, while still keeping their sense of fun. If you want to check out one of their newer more upbeat songs, I'd recommend "Metali". I was at this show and experienced it live and it was incredible to be part of. This was Momometal's first show as a full member of Babymetal, so it was a very special occasion. The crowd at PIA Arena was 12,000 which is actually on the small side for a Babymetal show in Japan.

The way they do it, similar to musicians, they train their dancing until it becomes automatic and then train it some more to become slightly less automatic. Remembering the dancing is easier than you'd think, because it's tied to the lyrics (it's almost kind of like interpretative dance or sign language), you can see it because when lyrics repeat like a chorus they will often repeat the dance as well. Yes, the song usually plays just after the middle of the set. One of the tricks they use with the intro... is to give the ladies a bit of a breather between songs. 🙂 If you want to see/listen Babymetal's opening song, react to: Babymetal Death Legend 1997 (this show it was used as a closing song, it was from 2013, the celebration of the lead singer 16th birthday, they added some more theatrics). For the precious album Babymetal had a collab with ESP they had a 9-string guitar. My best guess was, the idea is probably you can play all the guitar parts of the album with that guitar.
That was a great reaction. Fun informative breakdown. Felt the genuine appreciation for the excellence of the work everybody involved with Babymetal puts in. The most recent concert footage for Babymetal is their Legend MM LIve 2024. Every song is performed to perfection. And in the intros to several songs you can see the "control center" and yeah it looks like they're preparing to launch a giant rocket. Oh yeah, lotta good stuff in this but those lights. I think of Babymetal as a spear, the best quality one you could ever create. Su, Moa, Momo and Yui are the very sharp, very shiny tip of the spearhead, with the Kami Band making up the rest of the spearhead, the bit we see. The shaft is made up of all the producers, songwriters, composers, lighting, sound, choreography, set designers.... Together its Babymetal, and it's amazing. Also, good call on the opening song. Metal Kingdom was the opener, and it is another amazing Babymetal song. It's an anthem, and a bombastic call to arms, a fantastic show opener. Great song anywhere in the show ( experience it 3 times and what an experience). You should check out the opening song for these 2 shows it used some clips from another show to help stop the blocks . Metal Kingdom at PIA Arena 2023 now that is a show opener 😁🤘🏼🦊🤘🏼
It's interesting that you kept referencing the "team" around Babymetal. In interviews, the ladies will often refer to themselves as Team Babymetal when talking about the band
Metal Kingdom was the first song of the night, while Monochrome was the eighth. Many of the songs in the shows are having intros, as it is a way for the girls and musicians to take a break between each song. 😊 Edit: I replied before I saw that it was a compilation of the January and April shows. Too bad it's not the Pia Arena-only version, which I was referring to in the setlist earlier.
And when they found their Kami Band West (The real Kami Band that they now have) the Kami Band West mentioned often that Babymetal has the best stage crew in the industry.
The video is a compilation of a few concerts (better for a reaction :) ), at least PIA Arena 2023 and Makuhari Messe 2023. It is not usually an opener, but nowadays, a lot of Babymetal live song have a long (enough) intro, to put you in the mood. Specially if there is a tempo/style change with the previous song. One of the most well know intro is the 'red alert, incoming wall of death' intro before 'Road of Resistance'. It also cues the crowd to prepare for their part of the song. 🦊🤘
I think the long openers are primarily to set a mood and tone, but also to give the group a small rest given their constant frantic movements during the songs.

BabyMetal is a Japanese metal dance unit created in 2010 under another Jpop/Jrock group called Sakura Gakuin, they had 11 and 12 years old when started this and become independent after 2013, they created their own genre called kawaii-metal (kawaii means cute) mixing Jpop with metal sound and different subgenres along with many more rhythms. Their name is a reference to a new genre and not related to their ages or "baby" faces, is a pun intended play on words with "heavy-metal" which sounds similar to "baby-metal". They are: - SuMetal, lead vocalist, now 26. - MoaMetal, scream and dance, now 25. - MomoMetal, scream and dance, she's 21 and is the new official member since April 1st last year. - (YuiMetal) scream and dance, former member since 2018. About this song: Monochrome is another beautiful track from latest album, it was the 2nd single released in November 2022 and there's an official lyrics video really cool if you wanna enjoy the studio album version, later in 2023 right before this concert you just saw they released the Piano Version at The First Take surprising everyone with another stunning and beautiful one off stripped down version, that would be the perfect follow up to this live version since you like and know how to play a piano. The lyrics got some Norse mythology reference and when the lyrics vid came out there were many theories around, later they said they were surprised about it and saying they just wanna give a hopeful song. Here's some official info: "One of the discovered 10 parallel worlds is MONOCHROME and this 2nd pre-release digital single “Monochrome” centers around this theme. From the eyes of the children, what color were the monochrome fireworks lighting up in the night sky? And you are correct about the importance of lights. Their first purchase after the Band was a lighting specialist. You mustn't underestimate that their mother company Amuse is in fact an artist agency it is their job to find specialists for special Jobs.

This is the monochrome firework, the hiroshima nuclear bomb. The song is about finding light in the darkness hence the break in the middle, and should be seen as finding happiness in the darkness of times.

I was pretty skeptical when I started watching your analysis. I didnt know what to expect with your look how cool my lights are. But after watching the whole thing I feel like I had a short master class in music production. that was brilliant. as a 60 year old guitarist I of course hate you for being more talented at half my age than I will ever be but youve got to expect that . Kidding I dont call many people genius but you just may be. Ill try to catxch some more because I learned a lot from this one. Thanks one more thing. You should check out this 22 year old japanese girl Rei. She does a cover of Boom boom boom with just a drummer and she sounds like hendrix in parts. You young people are really pissing me off
May I just say how pretty your lights are - not sure if anyone's ever mentioned it before?! 😊 I'm one of those nutjob Nightwish fans but I've been hooked on Babymetal for years now and have been lucky enough to see them 4 times here in London. They do this number for I think it's Sony's One take series which is stripped right back accompanied by a piano plus Su and Moa. Well worth a listen now you've heard the tune! @@alancarter41 it’s not like we can monetize this content anyways. The audio on its own makes that not possible. I think the only reason they block is to make sure all the views come to the “official” video rather than secondary sources. Which, in a sense, I understand. 🤷🏻♂️
@@Anthony_Corso I can see that, but for many bands, especially BabyMetal, you have dozens of content creators making compellation videos copied from I assume official sources (blue ray I see mentioned a lot). It still makes no sense to me why more bands are not like Sabaton, who actually seem to promote reaction videos by occasionally posting in the comments nd giving so many interviews. Anyway, thoroughly enjoying and learning from your analysis, proving you actually can teach an old dog new tricks.

Great review. Yeah, Babymetal are cool and awesome, but Amuse can be total ****s to reactors. Amuse partialy own the copyright, but they didn't create Babymetal or any of the music, the're the copyright bouncers, they just love to block things seemingly randomly. This is a song written by Yuyoyuppe, he is a productive genius, I have organized playlists on my YT homepage dedicated to his works. I think you will find some amazing songs in there, if you are interested in more music like this. There is also a piano version of Monochrome they did for 'The First Take', i think you will appreciate it even more than this version.
Amuse, Inc. did create BABYMETAL. Their producer Kei Kobayashi is an Amuse employee, He's the person who began and runs the whole project. I agree that Yuyoyuppe (Takehiro Mamiya) is a great songwriter, but he was hired by Amuse, Inc. to create the songs he wrote for BABYMETAL.
@@rickwagner- I have to disagree with your first line, even though everything you said after is factual. They certainly helped by having the pieces of the puzzle at Amuse, and helped afterwards by funding them. But if it was Koba who had the idea for a group like Babymetal, and has guided them artistically from day one, and curated (even co-written) their albums, it's his creation and artistic vision. Even though Amuse inc 'own' Babymetal (in a mutually beneficial contract kind of way) they are not creating the art themselves, they are just managing the artists who colaborate with Babymetal via Koba. They deserve some credit for Babymetal's success (only some though), but not for Koba's original leap of faith. I always say Babymetal were created AT Amuse but not by Amuse.
No, Monochrome normally comes in the middle of the show. This was also the middle of the show. About 12000 guests. This was the first concert when Momoko became an official Babymetal. So she and Su still had small fights about her position in the Band. But Su wasn't ready to Disput. When she wanted to be a Babymetal you are my sister. But it was not easy to get Momoko in their circle. She was extremly shy. But Su and Moa were ready to go the Extra mile. And they are a small part of an extremly Talenten group. An additional advantage of them after the end of her school Koba send her through the japanese Metal industry as a stage hand and she let her qualify in different areas their crew is handpicked. Their Opener is Babymetal death. It was omposed for this purpose. They were planned with a stage persona in mind and this song helped them into their persona.
Not the opener to the show. They take longer breaks between songs to slam water and get put back together by their handlers. Early on, BabyMetal's producer spent lots of money to contract the best sound guy in the world setup their sound system and train their sound techs.
Sorry to say this, but i still dont get this babymetal band. I find it soulless music. And yes the people playing instruments are good, but still no soul in the music.
