Nice reaction, thanks and welcome back! BABYMETAL is the three ladies. They are backed by a live band known as Kami Band formed by session musicians. And they are incredibly proficient. "Kami" means "god" or "spirit" since they represent the "spirit" of each instrument, according to their lore. The whole concept was the "crazy" idea of a man, Kei Kobayashi, their producer (best known as Kobametal). He is a lifelong metalhead and found himself producing content for the kids division of his company, Amuse (which is actually a talent agency, by the way). He discovered a young Suzuka Nakamoto when she was just 10 years old, singing with her former girl group and he got the idea to mix things up since the metal scene was decadent back then and j-pop was literally everywhere. He got the opportunity in 2010, when he started producing a school themed j-pop idol group called Sakura Gakuin formed by girls between 10 and 15 years old. So, he recruited Suzuka and also two younger girls: Yui and Moa to back her and complete the classic triangle formation. They originated as a "club" or sub-unit of that larger group. The company wasn't too sure about this "weird" idea, but let him do... although without any extra budget. The concept was proven right and they started to gain popularity until they split from SG in early 2013 due to Su's graduation (= had to leave due to the age limit of the group). The rest is history. They have a very uncommon origin and development but keep in mind that they had to work really hard to get where they are, performing gigs in small venues and even in shopping malls for years. Now, they easily sell out arenas in Japan and clubs and middle size venues all over the world. 🤘🦊
Great reaction - and you are right, there is no other band quite like BABYMETAL (some have tried to follow or to copy them, none came close so far). This is a beautiful song taking us from the depths of the darkest moments and trying to imagine a colour in the night sky to painting the sky in rainbow colours and then reassuring us that "no matter how long the night, the morning will arrive" and finally illuminating the world in rainbow colours.🌈🦊 Su had audiences all round the world lighting up "this dark, dark world" with their phones last year - it was very special every time.
Nice one! This song and performance are absolutely beautiful all around. Babymetal was started by producer Key Kobayashi in 2010. He is a long-time metal-head, who is a producer at a J-Pop agency. He felt the metal scene in Japan (back then) was dying, so he wanted to rejuvenate it by fusing J-Pop and Metal together, thus starting this passion project that became Babymetal. Due to the unique nature of Babymetal, it didn't have much backing from the label, and they built it up from the ground, with Su, Moa, and back then 3rd member Yui (who left in 2018). This culminated with them playing at UK Sonisphere 2014, a well-renowned heavy-metal festival, surprising 50K+ confused UK metal heads who never heard of them before. Needless to say, they won the crowd and the rest is history. The Kami Band backs Babymetal for all live shows and consists of various session musicians, with a fairly stable line up. The original band was Japanese musicians (Kami East). Since 2019, US Musicians have been added to assist with increased tours (Kami West). These guys are now Babymetal's sole backing band as of Apr 2023. Also, some of the members of the Kami Band (west) are/were members of the band "Galactic Empire", a Star Wars themed band with costumes. The earlier live performances by Babymetal were backed by a different group of musicians also called the Kami Band (east) that was made up of session musicians from Japan. You can tell them apart by.... Kami east wear white outfits with white face paint and the west has masks and black outfits. There is a song called "Kagerou", it has 2 live MV's, one has intro solos by Kami east and the other has intro solos by Kami west, both are great videos. 🤘

Maybe I'm imagining things, but you looked a bit like you were falling in love. I wouldn't blame you. :-) BABYMETAL are indeed still very unique, even 14 years after their inception. They started as a subunit of a J-Pop idol group, and the original idea was to mix that with Metal. But they quickly started to incorporate other genres as well. Perhaps you'd like to check out the music video of their very first song "Doki Doki Morning", which has much more of a J-Pop touch. It's quite interesting.
Thanks from Japan 有難う💛。I witnessed this very performance at the venue where and when Momoko was inducted into BABYMETAL officially as the 3rd girl. That day, she had a headset mic for the first time like Moa has had since BM's inception. I sang the ♪ oh oh ohoo ♪ part with Momometal with my loudest voice in the show holding my phone. I was in bliss, for sure! The flying drones with cameras that enabled the beautiful aerial cinematograph were manipulated by experts including Ms. Shiraishi. She is a member of team Japan for World Drone Racing Championship. Our Kami Band played in the girls' back. They have supported BABYMETAL since 2019. Japanese fans always appreciate the devoted support like knights by Chris, CJ, Anthony, Clint and Ryan. They are really unsung heroes.
The monochrome firework is the hiroshima nuclear blast, su-metal is from there and her grandmother is a surviver. The song is about finding hope and light in dark times and hence the break down in the middle with the lights. She ask in japanese for the audience to light up the darkness with their lights. The song should be seen as a song of hope and happiness.
So far you’ve seen two sort of soft , but beautiful, songs from them. Would love to see you check out “Headbanger (Momoko version)” also known as Momobanger to truly witness the beautiful chaos that is Babymetal. There’s a great quality video of it on the channel “For the Fox God”.
I'd have him react to a version of 'Headbangeeeeerrrrr!!!!!' with Su on lead vocals before jumping into a special version that has Momoko singing lead.
Funny you mention it, the way Su's voice pierces through heavy instrumentation is what gave the producer who came up with the concept the idea(Kei Kobyashi, a metalhead working at Amuse). He thought it would work to have a metal group with her as the lead singer to bring younger people into the metal fandom.
We always say that Babymetal is a one of a kind. There is really nothing else in the world of music that is like them, and no-one else can put on a show like they can. There were definitely people in attendance at this performance, I was one of them. It was an amazing show to experience. I definitely felt chills during the performance. Babymetal's live band are known as the Kami Band. They are all pro session musicians as well as being members of other bands. There are actually two Kami Bands; the Kami Band of the East is made up of Japanese musicians, and the Kami Band of the West, which is made up of American musicians. Although this show was in Japan, it was the American Kami Band playing for this performance. The musicians for this show were Chris Kelly (guitars), CJ Masciantonio (guitars), Clint Tustin (bass), Anthony Barone (drums). Babymetal is the creation of their producer Kobametal, who wanted to revitalize interest in metal music in Japan and thought that blending metal with J-pop would make it more approachable to new audiences. Babymetal is all about positive messages. Fans often describe what they do as "happy metal"; the music goes hard, but the vibes are immaculate. Even their mosh pits are super friendly!

Monochrome is another beautiful track from latest album, it was the 2nd single released in November 2022 and there's an official lyrics video really cool if you wanna enjoy the studio album version, later in 2023 right before this concert you just saw they released the Piano Version at The First Take surprising everyone with another stunning and beautiful one off stripped down version. The lyrics got some Norse mythology reference and when the lyrics vid came out there were many theories around, later they said they were surprised about it and saying they just wanna give a hopeful song. BABYMETAL is the most unique metal experience in the world right now coming from Japan 🇯🇵. Not only their appearances, their style, and everything that surrounds them visually and backing Babymetal for live shows are an incredible band "The Kami Band". They’re so passionate about metal but music in general they know everything about the metal music discography after watching Metallica perform on stage. Babymetal created a new sub genre of metal call "Kawaii Metal" or Cute Metal. Babymetal created a very special feeling, and experience within the entire metal community. They work extremely hard to create something unique for every community ranging from the young, teenagers, middle age to old school metalheads. Welcome to Babymetal and great job with the reaction. A couple of things. There are no other bands like Babymetal And they literally created their own sub-genre of metal called Kawaii. The ladies have been enthralling crowds since 2010-yeah they were young. Babymetal are just the three ladies but the band-here the Kami Band West-are an integral part of Babymetal. You've got my sub and I'd love to recommend an even more recent, spectacular live performance of Arkadia, Legend MM Live 2024.
