It wasn't hours later. It was days. One of the parents called for a wellness check because they hadn't heard from either and they had missed a get together they were having for Christmas. The guy walked around inside the apartment, going in and out of consciousness for 2 days. It's truly a miracle he survived. He sat out front of the house in the back of a cop car for hours before he was even brought to the station for questioning. This was the case that got me started watching interrogations. Now they are some of my regular videos.
I was coming here to say this. They were shot on a Friday and they weren’t found until Sunday. While the delay in care by the police may have made some sort of difference, it seems like the 48 hours before he was found did the most damage and the infection was already well underway. I’m not a blind follower of cops, there’s decent ones and bad ones, but this detective has heard all manner of bullshit from suspects over the years and that definitely contributed to him not immediately believing what he was being told. He probably thought Ryan was drunk or on drugs, which is far more likely than him sitting there talking after being shot in the head.
@chrissullivan3375 Funny all your comments seem to be about color yet you don't come right out with it, stop pussy footing around and say what you mean.
@Tyler-hk4wo yes, they should have had him medically checked. But pretending that all the irreparable damage occurred in the 6 hrs the cops had him is b.s., the irreparable damage happened when he was shot in the eye and the following 48 hrs before he was found.
I used to be an EMT.. it's no coincidence this kid was taken from his house to an interrogation room. Police in the US are about as medically knowledgeable as a toddler.
@@chrissullivan3375 😂😂No it wouldn't.. They literally just showed 2x Stories from the same channel where 2 people who were "..Another Shade" were dying.. then eventually died after being in a police interrogation room and not being taken to the hospital immediately. I get what you mean man.. but you're also reaching.😅 Those stories weren't popular also. The Media picks and chooses.. what makes a story.. "another shade" or not. If CNN doesn't pick it.. Fox will ..and vice versa.
@@kanomorojele4956 Literally all his comments on this channel are beating around the bush but obviously racist in nature. He's commented this "shade" comment all throughout this comment section, and a vid they reacted to about things caught on store cameras(robberies mostly) being hand-picked videos with mostly colored criminals he goes "it's a theme here I'm not allowed to say, but we see it." Implying stereotypical things.
Not only did he survive the 6-7 hours between the cops putting him in the car and finally getting help, I believe he was in the house for a day (or a few days or something) going to sleep & waking up over and over while his girlfriend laid dead. That’s what he was trying to communicate when he said he wanted to let her sleep…she was dead but in his traumatised state he thought she was just sleeping 😢
This case infuriates me. Any man would be suspect number 1 in a case like this, but the guy needed obvious medical attention ASAP. That should take immediate precedence over making him wait for several hours and interrogating him for one.
Me too, I had to try to like emotionally remove myself from watching this because I could literally FEEL my blood boiling. And what's worse is saying what I really think would probably get me banned from RU-vid lol
This took place back when medical attention wasn't mandatory. Even with medical help, this guy would've still died due to how long he kept going after being shot.
Him saying over and over " I just want to go sleep" should have been a red flag. I suffered a severe blunt force trauma to my eye as a kid.. And I kept saying the same thing to my mom and dad and later the paramedics and doctors. Now granted this detective probably has minimal first aid training but if someone has a visible injury you just can't deny them medical care while carrying out your investigation.
Exactly. Whether or not one receives medical care should be determined by whether or not one has obvious injury, not whether or not the non-medically-trained police officers correctly diagnose the state of your health. How would they? They're police officers, not doctors... That's why it should always be a given for injured people to be checked by medical professionals, whether they're considered a victim, suspect or perpetrator.
i’ve watched enough medical shows and true crime to know that people who’ve been shot in the head don’t always die. i can’t believe what this guy went through. how heartbreaking
I remembered seeing a longer version of this too. I forgot that he was wondering around the house for 2 days, dazed, after the shooting while his girlfriend laid their dead on the couch. They also mentioned that what the cop saw were holes through his nose (I think) that were entrance wounds of bone fragments from his skull. That last part is fuzzy in my mind but I remember the cop's "closer inspection" of the kid made him immediately halt the interrogation and call the paramedics and it had to do with holes in his nose. Horrible and gut-wrenching story.
@@theroachden6195 - Whether people live or die shouldn't depend on the "belief" of police officers... If they had the standard practice of letting a medical PROFESSIONAL look at ANYONE who is injured, they wouldn't have had to make guesses and base their following procedures on "beliefs"...
I heard of this case from a couple videos. It really hurts inside that this poor guy is sitting in an interrogation room in pain with bullet holes in his face and he’s accused of killing his girlfriend from the detective that’s interrogating him😤😩My he rest in peace😔
Somebody screams they can’t breathe and they call an ambulance. I guy says he got shot in the eye, with obvious facial trauma, and they don’t believe him. wtf
Granted, almost 0% of people shot in the head survive their injuries, let alone the fact that they found him in the same home that his girlfriend was shot and that it had apparently been two days since he went missing. So, not only did he somehow get shot in the head and survive, he survived being shot in the head for 2 days. After which, the police found him with his dead girlfriend and he couldn't provide a sufficient alibi for why he had a black eye. Forget for one second hindsight about the situation and be a police officer who has been asked to provide a wellness check for two individuals that had gone missing two days prior. The boyfriend answers the door with a black eye acting odd and dancing around where his surface level black eye came from. When you go into the home to investigate you find the girlfriend dead from a gunshot wound to the head. Is your initial suspicion that he was also shot and survived two days without even calling for help or do you suspect he shot his girlfriend, was hiding out in the home for a couple days when the police showed up to his door?
This was, in my opinion, honestly a horrible coverage of this case (original video). Wish you checked out Mrballen’s video on this to get an actual grasp of what is going on. I mean for one when the narrator claims “worse yet, he was handcuffed to the desk” and for some unknown reason fails to explain that, in his agonizing confusion, Ryan had handcuffed himself to the desk unprovoked, almost immediately attempts to get up and stared in confusion at the restraints on his wrist as if he’s trying to figure out why they’re there. Which in my opinion is the first real indicator (obviously besides the physical marks on his face) that he is suffering with major brain trauma
The narrator was trying to rouse emotions against the cop all throughout the video. Am not saying the cop was completely blameless, but there were some mitigating circumstances. Hindsight is twenty twenty as they say. Easy to blame when you already know the full story.
This infuriates me! Reason being the two times I’ve gone to jail I needed medical attention and never got it. Once was from an accident and I had a severe concussion. They put in a dark cell where I went in and out of consciousness for hours. The other I had an episode because of a bad reaction to new medication. They tried putting me in jail because I was suicidal. They made the cop bring me to the right place for observation and then after 24 hours they put me in jail because the cop lied about what happened to look good. Because of the lies he said revoked my ability to get out and I was left in jail for weeks for no reason. My family had to get a lawyer to get me out and the judge chuckled and said they forgot I was in jail!!!
to give more kontext : the police came, he acted weird and it looked like he only had a blue eye like from a hit with a fist. the police talked to him and then they saw his dead girlfriend but he couldnt answer any questions so they thought he killed her.
the get people who act like that all the time. people on drugs or alcoholiks act way worse somethimes- this was just bad luck and could happen to most people . everyone can be the smart one watching this video.. he acted like he murdered his girlfriend and took drugs for days and didnt called the police. and his eye looked like a normal punch
@@Mt2pserverGplayssomeone wether or not says they got shot in the face, whatever they happen to be on, any perceptive person would get someone to check them as soon as they can, just to be safe
The police didn't handcuff him to the desk, he did when he saw the hand cuffs swinging from the table. Also he was in the house for days but he slept and woke up. A breakdown reaction from RU-vidr Mr Mcballen breaks it down a bit more in places. He was walking around the house a bit and when the cops went inside to do a wellness check they saw Heather had been shot and he was up and about so was suspected. This happened around Christmas time, I think Christmas eve and they were supposed to go to his fathers for Christmas lunch. When they didn't show up he called the police to do a wellness check to make sure they were ok. To be fair though seeing a black eye like that I'd get it checked out first but I guess a dead girl shot in the head was more pressing.
This is what I was talking about yesterday. This is a much more obvious violation of the constitutional rights I was talking about with that. They also left out that he sat in the police car at the scene for HOURS before they brought him in. And he had handcuffed himself to the table for unknown reasons other than the bullet in his brain.
I’ve sat here for like 30 seconds trying to figure out what you are talking about, and either you’re trying to call me a cunt in the most pussy way possible, or I have no idea what you mean.
3:25 Don't know what channel you're reacting to, but they got so many things wrong... Ryan was NOT handcuffed. He handcuffed himself. He forgot he did that, so the minute he tries to get away from the desk and sees that he can't, he's confused. He was also alone in that house for two whole days, not hours, like he said in the video.
Yeah, this video had the most inaccuracies of any video I've seen of this. It was however the first I've seen to state, that Ryan lost his left eye and not both of them (why would they have had to remove the completely uninjured one, after all). It does seem he did lose his eyesight entirely though, probably due to the part of his brain, they had to remove. Maybe that's where the one-eye-vs-both-eyes misunderstanding comes from.
I think this is the third reaction that the office folks have made of this video. I know it was on a random video and then Mike and Dave reacted to it and now it’s the third or fourth time😂 now I guess when you make three videos a day you run out of Content😂
The story also left out the fact that he was shot a couple days earlier.. he wandered around the house like a zombie thinking his girlfriend was just sleeping.
He and his girlfriend were supposed to go to a parent's home for Christmas dinner. When they didn't show up, they called the police to do a welfare check. While the 6 hour interrogation added even more time to Ryan's lack of treatment, he was already wandering around his home for a full day before he was found. Just a really poor job of assessing obvious injuries. Also, can't know if they would have gotten the information about Ritchie and his dad without the interrogation either. Awful and sad story all around.
That is important relevant information absolutely. THough I want to just state that that doesnt absolve the police in any way. If theres someone with a badly bruised eye who says theyve been shot, they need immediate medical attention.
@@luminousdragon 100% agree. Not making excuses for the police department. It is important to be fair in the telling of the story though. Police really screwed up by not assessing Ryan's obvious injuries. Would it have made a difference in his treatment? Very possibly. Is it also conceivable that the information the police did manage to obtain might have been lost if Ryan didn't spend any time with them? Also very possible. Like I said, truly heartbreaking story with many victims and many failings. The only good being that the perpetrators were apprehended and convicted.
@@thseed7 Agreed, Especially the part about being fair. My political stances and opinions on things like police, etc are all based on as much as I can a fair and accurate analysis of the statistics and information available, and if that information is ever wrong I want to know about it so I can alter my opinion. To me it makes no sense to get defensive when someone shows information is wrong, theys identified an error/weakness but the great thing is its super duper easy to fix, just stop believing that thing. Everytime you identify a false belief and fix it youve strengthened your accuracy in understanding the world, so it seems very strange when people instead fight against that in an effort to stay stagnated in their beliefs. Anyways, this is pretty far off topic sorry for the rambling!
They leave out some pertinent info here.. The narrator makes it sound like the incident just happened immediately prior to the video. He was actually shot a couple days prior to the police showing up for a welfare check. He had been wandering around his apartment in a daze for the last two days with the gunshot wounds and his girlfriend dead on the couch.
@@JAB2010it's absolutely pertinent when everyone is calling for this cops head. You are just going to skip the first 48 hrs of damage and decide that it was the 6 hrs when he was with the cops that caused the irreparable damage?
Literally the best video version of this story is told by mr ballen on his channel. This guy didn’t even build up to revealing he had actuality been shot in the head
For the most over-policed country with the highest per capita prison population in the world you'd think we would spend more on training our law enforcement personnel, but no. If you get hired by a sheriff's department (depending on the state) you might be issued a gun on day 1 with no firearm safety classes or basic training. A lot of times it could be up to a year before you're sent to P.O.S.T. where you're actually take firearms training classes & are actually taught real laws to enforce. Unfortunately, the only laws they teach officers are ones that might get them in trouble or their department sued if they don't abide by them, but they let them make up laws they think there should be or interpret other laws however they want to suit their own needs when dealing with the public during any interactions they have. This is why billions in taxpayer dollars are spent each year to pay for lawsuits & settlements when police f*ck up, falsely arrest & imprison, or violate a citizen's basic inalienable rights listed in the constitution (primarily in the Bill of Rights first 10 amendments)...
Why should they be sued? How is it that the damage that killed this kid wasn't caused by... A. Getting shot in the eye B. The 48 hrs he spent laying shot in his house before he was found? How are you so sore that the damage that killed this kid occurred in hours 49-55 when the cops were with him?
@@theroachden6195 ...I question your own graduation if you're actually asking me that. He asked that because he thought the guy was slow - meanwhile the brilliant detective missed a gunshot wound right in front of him. Now that I've dumbed it down for you do you get it yet?
I wish that this kind of indifference for someone's life was unusual but this is business as usual in law enforcement. We are slowly seeing improvement with the use of body-cams, cameras and citizens who record law enforcement while they perform their duties. First amendment auditors and cop watchers are helping to bring about the change that is needed. I get disgusted with boot lickers who call these people frauditors and say they shouldn't be auditing or redressing our government. Back the blue till they come for you.
@@chrissullivan3375 White people have never been oppressed so of course, that makes complete sense. People do things like this to other races on purpose knowingly, they don't do it to white people knowingly. Context matters and every situation is different you fox news sheep.
I hate to tell you this, but not a damn thing happen to Paul Dalton. He's heralded as a great guy, Maricopa County, the Phoenix PD is corrupt. Texas may not be any better, but here you have a chance.
This video does a poor job at explaining the situation. He was in the home for days with his headshot injuries not understanding what had happened. He doesn't understand that his girlfriend was dead, he thought she was a random girl sleeping on the sofa.
to give more kontext : the police came, he acted weird and it looked like he only had a blue eye like from a hit with a fist. the police talked to him and then they saw his dead girlfriend but he couldnt answer any questions so they thought he killed her.
He handcuffed himself to the desk. This story is not accurate. His behavior was so off that any normal human would have sent him to the hospital. He sat in the cop car for two hours before being driven to the station. The cops in this case were so negligent that they should never deal with people again.
It was Ryan's Dad who callled 911 to do a welfare check on Ryan and Heather who he couldn't get ahold of initially. Richie and his Dad (the killers) used to live with Ryan and Heather. Richie started hitting on Heather and she told Ryan who threw him and his father out. This happened a month prior. Richie h Then had a vendetta against Ryan so he and his Dad went back on December 23rd, trying to break into their house through the sliding glass door and Ryan ran over to stop them and then they shot him point blank in the face twice then killed Heather. I felt so bad for Ryan because of the delay in getting him medical care where his brain was bleeding causing irreparable damage, him losing both eyes and having to go back home to live with his parents where he was dependant upon them, he later on passed away 10 years later from a seizure which was due to him not getting proper medical care promptly from this "jump to conclusions" detective outfit that were so inept but the family chose not to sue even though they had the rights but in their minds, they wanted their son back and sueing wouldn't bring back Ryan. This was just terrible. You're innocent until proven guilty but seems not so and anyone who's in an event like this should be treated medically first then deal with the investigation later on. Had they done this, Ryan probably would still be alive today. I mean, how in the world can anyone, cop or whoever not see this obvious traumatic injury on his face and see that this kid is not well.
That cop honestly pissed me off the first time I watched it, there was so much fucking time for him to realise something was wrong, he's meant to be a detective?! The least you would fucking do is get the guy medically checked out before interviewing, that's not a normal bruise from a little punch, an 8 year old could tell you that.
The U.K. has Scotland Yard ...... The U.S.A.. Police ......Jordan, a 49-year-old college graduate, took the exam in 1996 and scored 33 points, the equivalent of an IQ of 125. But New London police interviewed only candidates who scored 20 to 27, on the theory that those who scored too high could get bored with police work and leave soon after undergoing costly training. Most Cops Just Above Normal The average score nationally for police officers is 21 to 22, the equivalent of an IQ of 104, or just a little above average.
He hadn't just been shot in the head. He had been shot the day before. Then after the police did come they made him sit in the dawn car for hours before taking him to the station. This is so far beyond ridiculous. These officers should be locked up,especially because this directly leads to his death years later.
Those 2 hours he was locked up in the police cruiser and the 1 hour interrogation was what caused his death years later, not him having a gunshot wound to his head for 2 days before the police were called to do a welfare check, just the last 3 hours. He spent about 5.9% of the time he had multiple gunshot wounds to his head in police custody.
He has an obvious head injury, you don't have to be a medical professional to see this. He should have been taken to hospital straight off! His repeating he wants to go to sleep should be a clue, & along with the left side of his face, & saying he was shot in the eye should have been a red flag! Disgraceful!!
I love how everyone blames the detective for this kid dying when he lived DAYS with a GSW to the brain. Talking to him for a few hours didn't kill him. Fuck sake people
He’s shot in the eye injured.. guilty or not the pigs need to call a doctor to check him out.. what other possibilities can there be? 😂🤦🏻♂️🤷🏻♂️ clown

Before they took him to the station they saw Heather dead on the couch. And assumed he killed her. I suggest you watch Mr. Ballen.
It wouldn't have mattered, if his MEDICAL health had been checked by MEDICAL professionals. Why should his treatment depend on the diagnosis of police officers, who don't have the medical knowledge to determine whether or not someone's injuries are severe?
Everyone here should be fired. If he said he was shot in the eye with a revolver, whether you believe him or not, he should immediately be taken to a hospital to be examined.
