If she had stayed with Dion, she'd been like Mr. Gaines said his cousin was. Dion would have loved her to death, and everyone would have been going to her funeral.
@@judychang8760nahhh Lena (Jada) was a part of a gang from Bmore who still had connections…she’s from the hood…his life would’ve been at stake if he tried anything!
I doubt that. Just because Dion beat up on Gina doesn't mean that he could do that to Lena. Like someone said, Lena was feisty and belonged to a gang back home. Dion wouldn't want Picalo coming after him!
Whitley impressed me incredibly in this scene! You really saw how much she had evolved and matured. The way she handled this with sensitivity, support, strength, honesty and genuine concern. This is NOT the same girl from the first three seasons. Jasmine KILLED this scene! And so did Ajai who gave Gina great vulnerability and layers in this scene and the whole episode. Where are shows like this today?
@@ragantate3995Doesn’t matter if she was alive when it first aired or not, she simply said you can definitely see the growth within Whitley’s character, which is a true statement.
I like how the writers put in the line about Gina going to get counselling about what happened to her. It feels like things like that weren't talked about as much back then as they are today.
In a later episode, "I'm Down" actually came back to Gina, and he's still the same. Gina tried to shoo him away but he wouldn't go and instinctively grabbed her arm violently. Then Mr. Paige (Billy Dee Williams) came into her rescue.
Man, WHAT. Debbie Allen came in, and saved the hell out of this show. From annoying, self-centered, easy-to-hate Whitley to a WOMAN. Dwayne was very lucky.
This whole episode was love. The way everyone stepped to both help and protect Gina. This the type of community that needs to come back in style. People now days shy away from confronting people because nobody wants to seen as being judgmental or whatever. I’d rather be confronted when I’m going astray than buried because of it.
Whitley's speech was perfect!...but I think it was Mr. Gaine's speech that shook her the most. Cause the way she looked up at him when he said "one day her husband loved her to death and we buried her last year"...The fact she made, was like a light bulb went off. Like she never even thought of the loosing her life behind this abuse. So many women die from DV everyday, i wish more shows talked about this. Especially for the youth. They have highschool students dealing with this too!
Not only that.. alot of women die from going back for items, clothes and closure...I don't need closure...when I leave someone who's abusive....That is closure...no need to go back for nothing
And I have no doubt his story & the no-nonsense way he told it was what finally got through to Gina. She saw, at last, that as things were going with Dion, she would never get out alive.
Gina: "That's easy for you to say. I mean...you've always got somebody" Whitley: "That's right. And her name is Whitley". Pay attention! I bet dude would have left if the shoe had been on the other foot and Gina was beating HIS ass. Hmmm...

@@ladybugradio1988 Good! Because like I said, if Dion really cared for Gina, he wouldn't hurt her physically or emotionally. Believe it or not, there are boyfriends out there who get abused physically and/or emotionally by their girlfriends too and they don't have to take it either.
@@andrewcolinwilson1 True because my mom went through this when my siblings and I were little then once she realized that she had enough of the abuse my father figure put her through, she got all 3 of us and left him alone.
Freddie Brooks : Before I sign off, allow me to raise your consciousness with a poem by the late Pat Parker. "Brother I don't want to hear about how my real enemy is the system. I'm no genius, but I do know that system you hit me with is called a fist." Stay strong, my sisters. Peace.
Gina saw Dion again in the episode where she, Lena and the others went on a trip and rented out a cabin. It's the same episode that Billy Dee Williams was in and his character confronted Dion.
Bitch please the police were there not to protect her to protect Dion from Jada you know is there was two cops to back them up right one for Dion and one for Jada
Jada was my girl on this show....But I absolutely loved every single one of them, they're the reason a lot of us saw ourselves actually wanting to go to an HBCU, best decision ever🖤
As a woman who is a survivor of physical, verbal and mental abuse by a former boyfriend I can understand how "Gina" feels. I accepted it for 3 years (from age 16 to 19 years old. I'm 50 years old now). He and my mother told me that I was dumb, stupid and ugly and I believed them. He told me repeatedly that I had better appreciate that he was dating me because no other man would even pay attention to me. My mother apologized just 6 years ago about how she treated me. She admitted that maybe if it wouldn't have happened then I wouldn't have been easy prey for him. It took most of my life to get to the thought that I am good enough...... although some times I still believe what I spent years hearing. It's something that truly never leaves you. People please treat each other right. Not treating each other right has a lifetime of negative consequences.
I know that I am late with my response but I am so happy that you got out of that situation. You are beautiful and amazing and strong. Abusers like to control things and they use manipulation like saying no one would want you as a way of keeping you locked up in a vicious cycle of abuse. It’s a shame because usually hurt people hurt people. God bless you and continue to love yourself no matter what. You are your advocate and your best friend. ❤🙏🏾🕊️
it's sad how people who've been in these situations or similar think that it's love love don't act or look like that and I'm so proud of the people who've spoken up
A lot of times it’s because they have never experienced true love. Abusers use this to manipulate their victims by telling them that they love them and then doing the complete opposite. It’s a vicious cycle about control. 😢
Gina, Ajai Sanders, was acting her butt off in her episodes; I think she is a wonderful actress. And Jada was a dang fool; I loved her on DW. I still remember the voicemail rap by heart from when she had a crush on Dwayne.
Abusive relationships of any kind (mentally emotionally and physically) for men and women are extremely toxic and complex. The abuser uses manipulation, gaslighting, guilt tripping and other various methods to try and convince their partners to stay. It can break any person down from a healthy happy person to the lowest of the low all for the sake of "love". This is why the writers chose Gina to be the victim. Gina was often shown as the fierce independent tough girl but in this ep Dion had broken her down so bad that Gina couldn't fight back anymore or see the horrible person he was. Dion acted sweet by getting her the shoes and apologized to make up for the times he hit her and to still make her think he was a good bf. It shows it can happen and destroy anyone. These kind aren't just something to easily leave from. This is why people need support from friends family counselors and etc. to be learn what real love is and find the strength to detach from the toxicity
Dude you did all this to yourself ok you caused your own downfall, ruined your own career, and destroyed your own reputation, in other words all the respect people had for you it's gone now
Hi, Jake! Wow, man it's great that you're posting these and it truly shows how universal the show was to not just us black people but to all who just appreciate quality tv. I just have to let you know how much I LOVE The Cats in The Cradle episode. It was and still is one the most powerful, compelling and entertaining half hour of television ever and you all killed it. Absolutely killed it.
