Whitley started off as a pampered, snobbish, princess who was always "putting her foot in her mouth" until she met Dwayne's mother, who was not having any of that! In the beginning of the show we hated her, but in the end after she came down to earth, we started warming up to her and began to appreciated her for the beautiful and very tallented person that she was..she bought a lot to Hillman and was admired by her fellow students. I think that she and Dwayne were a good match because he challenged her every step of the way and he brought out the very best in her. I think whitley was trying very hard to create her own identity and not ending up like her mother, 'wealthy but alone." I also loved how Whitley and Kim became so close, although their relationship didn’t start off that way. Remember when they met? The problem with 'which bed is mine' and the picture of the anatomical man on the door!
Love Whitley and Dwayne together. I can't get enough of watching them. Putting these 2 together was the best thing the show ever did. Whitley and Dwayne together added endless comedy plus romance. They are my favorite couple and Whitley's accentI I could listen to all day. It's hard to pick a favorite episode but one of my favorite scenes is when Dwayne interrupts the wedding and Whitley runs dwn the aisle to Dwayne. I would love to see a movie made of a reunion of the whole gang with Whitley and Dwayne still being married of course.
The cultivation of the relationship between Dwayne & Whitley was genius- it really had all the right elements to create the final product; a masterfully crafted chemistry that was uniquely organic & real, while still exceeding the sheer entertainment factor that always produced iconic TV couples. This will always spark such a rejuvenating nostalgia.
I love the scene where Whitley's other boyfriend calls on the answering machine while Whitley and Dwayne were sharing a cup of yogurt together and he was saying that he wanted to see her, and after Whitley had talked about her other boyfriend badly, Dwayne thought that she was going to do the same thing to him. And when Whitley had said to Dwayne that she was never going to let him go, and she ran after him after he took off playfully, while Whitley was giggling while running after Dwayne while laughing and he caught her in his arms and kissed her, I just love that scene, this is my favorite couple out of A Different World, I would give anything to have a boyfriend and a husband like Dwayne Wayne, Whitley was so lucky to me in my eyes!!!🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
I didn't like when it Whitley changed her voice to this tone. I liked it better when she used her natural deep and husky voice like it was when she first came on the show.
