A Difficult LOSS for Our Family as WILDFIRES Threaten the Area 

The first thing my father did when he built his retirement house was build a large pond. He then rigged up a pressure pump that used the pond water (he had a filtering system) to fight potential fires. He was a thinker and planner.

My heart goes out to you, your family and your children on the loss of a beloved animal friend. It is never easy to lose a loved one regardless of species. The fire is also concerning, as it is so close to your lovely home, that is still being built. Lifting you and your family up in prayer at this time. May protection and peace surround your family, including your animals, and that you are kept safe.

I pray that a blanket of safety encompasses your family and homestead against the wildfires! The home is getting closer and closer to completion and just gets more beautiful with every moment you all work on it! So sorry for the loss of the lamb.

That first pet loss is so rough on kids, and my heart goes out to your family. It's one thing when expected, but another when you're blind-sided, and this seems like it was an unwelcome surprise. Let's hope the other unwelcome visitor doesn't veer close enough to do damage to the wonderful home and life you've all built for yourselves.

So sad about Fozzie. The way God has protected and helped your family so far makes me think He will keep His hand over all of you. Since you are planning to get the wood stove and hot tub at some point anyway, I'd take that salesman up on his offer. You will live with that stove for the rest of your life, so get the one you want. And think of how nice family time will be in that hot tub on a cold winter's day. ETA: So, did you buy that little stove? If you loved it so much, think of how much your grandkids will like it.

We will definitely pray for you and your family and that you get the rain you need to suppress the fire hazard anywhere near your property. It's a real threat every year though. I'm glad you are prepared as much as you can. Hopefully you can dig a pond with an available pump/and drum to throw on the back of the truck in case you ever need it. I've seen several homesteaders use those. Let us know how the fire goes!

Our house caught fire 3 days after we moved in. We decided to go with a wood stove because after what we experienced with our traditional fireplace, we went with a fire stove. A jotle (yodel) and we couldn’t be more excited. There are so many amazing stove designs. So happy for you guys! I can’t believe the build is almost done!

I’m really proud of you guys! I love your videos! My daughters home is just down from you guys and we also are watching the fires. We almost had to evacuate them a few years ago. I’m not going to lie, I have enjoyed the storms and cooler weather and the show they brought. But with that comes the fires. At least they are later than normal this year and fall is approaching and will help with them. I am so sorry about your lamb. That makes my heart hurt. ❤

And there is nothing more beautiful than horses running across fields to me. And I use bear too. You have a beautiful place due to the hard work you have put into it. I would recommend a disc for behind your tractor so if the fire would come toward your house you can disc an area around it

I’m so sorry about losing the sheep, it never gets easy when you lose an animal. I am praying the fire goes out and doesn’t move your way.. My husband is a tech guy and had his name on the wait list for starlink as soon as there was 1 and we’ve had it a few months and definitely can’t complain, we actually just moved to WV and had no issues connecting it here.

you should look into a soapstone wood stove , lined with soap stone will save you a bunch in wood . They hold the heat for hours after the fire goes out so you won't have to get up in the middle of the night and is usually coals left in the morning

I'm so sorry you lost Fozie. And I appreciate you sharing it. This past Monday morning (10/24) I came downstairs to start the day and found my beautiful German Shepherd dead. The vet thinks it was her heart. Part of me is still in shock. It was totally unexpected.

My husband sold self contained and installed hot tubs. Here’s the 411. Self contained need small equipment to fit under inside the skirt, it means it will take hours to bring to the water to heat each use even with a cover. Salesmen don’t mention that, it comes on daily to clean, filter and maintain heat so it can come up to spa heat in 15-20. A lot of wasted energy. Installed spas is more energy efficient, choosing a larger heater and pump can turn the water from cold to hot in the same amount of time Installation with the lip a 2 ft above the deck for ease of entry and exit and a place for drinks and towels and keeps water out while hosing off the deck. Choosing a style avoid lounges, you float off, and depth of the footwell matters you need room for a lot of feet! Good luck!

The Bullfrog brand spa with the replaceable seat backs is our spa. We love it and you are not 'stuck' with just one jet pack design for each seat. An A-8 with seating for 6 should be considered. We do love our spa (until a mouse got in and gnawed one of the water hoses). PS we had trouble with doors too...but after a few doors are now much better.

We are out of the woods with the McKiney fire here in Northern California, my daughter and her family did not lose their house.90,000 acres, 185 homes lost, and 4 people lost their lives in that fire....very sad. When we lived in Nevada, we had wild fire come 1/4 mile from our home. We were prepared to evacuate, but, the heroic firefighters were able to control it before it got to our neighborhood. Very scary and a good lesson. Keep brush and trees away from your structure.

Prayers for protection from the wildfire and the smoke. Prayers, too, for health and safety. So sorry about your beloved pet. The loss is hard to cope with. I live in Spokane, but that's no protection from experiencing wildfires. We had a reminder of that last night when one started near my neighborhood. The level 3 warning went out (leave now) and it left us all scrambling to figure out what was going on. Thankfully, I was outside the evacuation area, but it got me thinking about what I'd grab (the animals- so prepare carriers), meds and maybe a few toiletries packed, and important papers if time (insurance, ID, etc). I don't smell or see as much smoke this morning. So fire is getting under control I hope. For now, I'm running the fans with furnace filters to eliminate as much smoke from inside the house as possible. Thankfully, today is much cooler. So it's not too bad to close all the windows. Thank you so much for your closing thoughts. They were spot on. Prayers for you and your family and animals. Many grateful prayers for all the fabulous first responders.
