Yeah... they don't deserve to sell 'First Class' if that's the hard/soft product they're offering. Screams lack of maintenance and care.

Totally agree. The future shows a better hard product, but the soft product will be up to management

You missed an enormous opportunity on this flight. Years ago we flew from Johannesburg to Rio...daytime. We left at about 10AM Africa time and arrived at about 2 PM Brazil time.The great thrill was flying over the Namib Desert at a relatively low flight level. I got some amazing photos...including one which you see the desert going right up to the green waters of the South Atlantic. One of my most memorable flights!

When you fly from Luanda to Sao Paulo after takeoff, you will go directly into the Atlantic Ocean, there is no way you can fly over Namibia. From JNB the situation is different.

I am Angolan and unfortunately i have to agree with you, Taag is not capable to keep the first class and even lot of Taag workers and crew agree with it, Taag is facing lot of problems and the last management was the worst, they came up with lots of bad measures that only got its situation worse, the new management is trying to save it, let's give them some time, but as to first class, let Taag just leave it for the strongest, because first class is service with high quality, it is a mockery Taag keeping on calling mediocre service as first class, a good business for us is enough. i hope they watch the video, read the comments and start working hard to change the situation.

Great to hear from an Angolan on your thoughts! I will say that the renovation plans and new airport are showing some great will amongst Angola’s aviation market. Hopefully they can keep the ball rolling and grow with this momentum! They’ve got a real opportunity, and it would be incredible to see it executed!

@@PatrickSheaAviation , i hope so, because we are a little skeptical about this so called renovations, we're even afraid this new airport might be a new white elephant because of so much bad experiences this government makes us go thru, they are the cause of the disgraces of Taag. By the way, i watched your TR Jakarta- Amsterdan and i enjoyed it a lot, i couldn't imagine that the next would be Taag, let's remember that Taag and Guaruda entered the blacklist of European aviation at the same time in 2007 and left it at almost the same time, i always think about it😂🙂.

Didn’t the last management become the first administration to bring TAAG to profit? If they did that in just 2 years imagine what they could have done with public support in 5 years. I’m not sure what measures you thought they brought that were bad? I would be interested to know. They had to deal with sabotage (the Aviation committee blocking their plans to expand cargo to make profit- then they could have paid the debt of $10M that they were given as the previous managers had not paid the bills). 40,000 blankets and 4 containers worth of product had ‘gone missing’ from the warehouses, things were being stolen at every part of the chain so this needed to be fixed. You know workers of any company will berate managers when they get rid of people, but when you have a lack of skills and a surplus of people (there were over 70 ppl on expat packages in Brazil- any normal airline would have about 3 in an outstation) then unfortunately unpopular changes need to happen. You know the new administration are already losing 30% of revenues and the likelihood is TAAG will simply collapse. I just hope that a distaste doesn’t happen caused by poor management of maintenance 🤞
@sergioagostinho72
@sergioagostinho72 4 месяца назад
@@sanidadeelogica4979 , it was what they said and they believe being true, they weren't for sure the worst, but the best at the point to bring profit, is a deceit.

Egyptair has never served Brazil with scheduled flights, though it did operate a few charters. Royal Air Maroc did serve Brazil on two different occasions. The first was Casablanca-Rio de Janeiro back in the 1970s and 1980s using 747s (and it was celebrated for excellent service back then). Despite São Paulo being the largest city and economic capital of Brazil, and by far the largest local market in the country, it lacked a large international airport of its own until the mid-1980s, when Guarulhos ("gwah-ROO-lyoos", similar to "Julius") was opened, hence the routing through Rio. RAM returned in the late 2010s using 787-8s (this time to GRU), but it suspended its flights during the pandemic and never returned. TAAG also suspended its flights during COVID, but it returned as soon as it could. Yes, the newer international Terminal 3 at GRU is flashier, but it was somewhat underdimensioned, and LATAM has had to move some of its international flights back to the larger but older T2, especially during the nighttime long-haul rush hour. Most Latin American and African airlines operate from T2 (Copa Airlines and South African operate from T3). Spain's Air Europa is also in T2, but Iberia is in T3. Since all domestic flights (other than Azul's, which operate from the very small T1) also operate from T2, and GRU is by far the busiest domestic airport in Brazil as well, T2 can be very congested and a nightmare at some times of the day.

Hope you will enjoy the country I was born and raised. If you are lucky on flights to Foz Do Iguaçu sometimes the airplane will fly over the "Cataratas Do Iguaçu" during the final approach and is a sight to see! Landing at Rio De Janeiro Santos Dummont is also an adventure on its own. Talking about Taag, they are trying to serve as a low-cost airline between South America and Europe, they offer really cheap flights from Brazil to Portugal. They are trying to change their strategy and work more like a low-cost airline that connects South America and Europe at least that is how people in South America see them. I can see that they could be a more business-focused airline as well, considering how big the influence of China is in South America and Africa, and since all Chinese airlines stopped operating in South American countries Angola could be the country to bridge this gap. Let's wait and see what they will end up doing.

Emirates, Qatar, Turkish, Ethiopian, and European airlines such as AF/KL, LH, and BA already bridge the market between Brazil and China (and Japan, which is an equally or more important Asian market from Brazil). It will be tough for TAAG to compete with all of them, especially Ethiopian with its usually much lower fares, unless TAAG offers really crash fares. Even if they go that way, they're likely to be offering few weekly flights, while all others fly daily (QR and AF twice daily from GRU). So, I don't see them becoming a major player on that route.

My eyes widened at that myself. This is my first video of yours that I’m watching so I don’t know your type ratings, but I seriously doubt that, for example, a GA pilot only rated to fly a single engine prop without night or instrument ratings would be much use in a 777! Plus if one of the pilots were incapacitated being in first class you’d see at least some of it. And the crew would use the intercom to ask if there were any pilots aboard.

The alternative to the direct flight might be TAAG Luanda Johannesburg and then South African Airways Johannesburg Sao Paolo. The 2nd leg JNB-GRU allows the use of Star Alliance perks due to South African Airways being a Star Alliance member just like UA🇺🇲 and AC🇨🇦 in North America. Option 3 is TAP Portugal LAD-LIS-GRU Star Alliance perks in effect thanks to TP Skyteam routing is LAD-CDG-GRU useful for Skymiles owner. Looks like the same as a Korean Air Kosmo Sleeper Suite.

Angola became Independent from Portugal in 15/01/1975 and not in 1973 as you mention. Fun fact: Taag was banned to fly to Europe from 2007 until 2010,and you wonder why?!!!! Remember the broken window that you mention. What is the problem with a Crack Window on a Comercial Boeing 777 when the other 323 Windows are ok. My friend, that's how Angola works. Unfortunably for their poor people.

Your video title was dramatic for you, Patrick. Yet, it's still less dramatic than the typical titles from Josh Cahill and Nonstop Dan. It was really nice hearing about how you're respectful of other passengers by doing what you can to not disturb them...unlike, well you know!! 😜 If TAAG is to partner up with a U.S. airline, they will have to certainly step up their game like Aeroflot had to years ago in order to join Sky Team. Time will tell! Patrick, once again you are able to criticize with tact and balance and without being a Drama Queen. Thank you again for that, unlike other vloggers such as....well, you know!! 😉 Nice job overall once again. 9.775

Out of all of it, I’m struggling to wrap my brain around the concept of two cabin crew firstly, having a problem with the sole first class passenger moving seats-particularly given that several things on the seat he had weren’t working or stopped working… And secondly these two cabin crew, despite all of the extensive “people skills” training they received, felt unable to deal with you on their own and felt the need to drag the captain (I presume that he had the four stripes on his shoulders at least) out of the cockpit to give you a telling off! Okay I know technically the PIC is responsible for the aircraft and everyone on it, but I always thought that they’re only brought out of the cockpit to handle unruly passengers. Even then that’s usually on the ground. During flight many airlines are reluctant to have the captain deal with an unruly pax because one punch to the head incapacitates said captain. lol I have several questions about the details of that incident.
@PatrickSheaAviation

Oh no, February 4th is my birthday and I have an airport in Africa! Haha, thank you for another interesting, awesome and enjoyable flight report. The B777-300ER departed from Portugal looked very clean and that was a very good first impression of the airline. The airport at Luanda looked so similar to the Departure Hall of Addis Ababa Airport. The boarding looked very disorganised. The First Class seats reminded me of Asiana First Class in their B744. Due to charging your item, you were being scolded by the pilot, hope they did not blacklist this kid that kept switching seats on their plane... African Aviation is picking up with first construction of new airports, then upgrade their airplanes with new seats, this will attract people like you, me to fly them. This is still an unpolished airline that Air China, China Eastern shall help to train them up. Be safe and looking forward to your next flight report.

Given Angola's robust economy, the country could support a flag carrier provided that it offers a competitive product. Looking south to South Africa: 1. The country is teetering towards failed nation status. 2. SAA has been having financial difficulties for years. With that, TAGG eclipsing SAA in the midterm is plausible.
@PatrickSheaAviation

That would be a very interesting thing to watch. I know SAA has had a troubled revival, but it seems like TAAG has a shot at taking a good piece of the market there!
