There's many explainations out there about the phone calls by Billy. He basically tells the story of what happened when he was younger, it used to be his house where he grew up, this is why you hear different voices, he's doing his mother/father, sister, himself as well. Peter wasn't the killer, his eyes are a clear indicator he has blue eyes, Billy's eyes are dark and brown. The inspiration for the movie is a mix of a true life crime that happened over christmas in my hometown of Montreal and the urban legend of the "babysitter and the man upstairs". Love your reactions by the way :) Merry Christmas!

I saw this way back in the 70's and it's really difficult to express the utter shock and uproar over this film, it broke so many molds most people either loved it for the boldness, or hated it because it was too weird and raw, few were in the middle. After all these years, it still has an impressive impact.

Same here. I saw it around 1978 onboard a ship when I was in the navy. For years it had been a creepy low-budget film that many didn’t know about. The internet helped bring it some exposure and it’s become a popular cult film.

I love your banter. Bridget listening to the obscene phone call, then turning to Cody and asking, "Why don't you ever talk to me like that?" was one of the best moments ever. Also, "The basement is worse than the attic, and there are bodies up there." was another great one. Love you two! I do wish this had a sequel. Maybe even in the style of Halloween II where it takes place immediately after the first movie, on the same night, picking up right where this left off, leading to a fight between the final girl and Billy.

One of my favorite slasher flicks, and without a doubt my favorite slasher villain. That it was made pre-Halloween makes it a little more unpredictable than most, as it doesn't follow the pattern that almost every post-1978 slasher did. Unfortunately it's had not one, but two, dreadful remakes, but at least it's gotten more of an audience in recent years.

They didn't exactly say they were leaving her alone; they said the coroner was coming by later, plus there is a cop posted on the front poarch. They also said that with four murder victims, the M.E. was overwhelmed; probably nosing around in the attic wasn't high on anybodies list at that point.

Thanks for making videos eh. There’s an animated story of Billy’s origin using the clues from the phone calls on yt which is worth a watch. Agnes was Billy’s toddler sister btw. I think the video is under 20 minutes long. Billy’s bad acts coincide with the phone calls so we know Jess gets it in the end because he’s calling. Billy’s been using the house for a base of operation for a while - since before the movie starts for sure. Mrs Mac hides her booze because of her position as den mother and because her liquor would be scarfed down by Barb or one of the others if it was left out in the open. The cops don’t search the attic because Claire’s disappearance was not immediately believed and later, other events become more important - the 13 yr old in the park. Also, it’s a house full of people who have been looking for her and who is ever reported missing and eventually turns up in their attic when it’s not a family home? It’s just not a likely scenario, besides, Peter was the killer in the cops minds and he’s dead, Jess is out for at least four hours, the lab boys are on the way to the house, danger’s all over, mop up to follow. Claire may turn up later all fine and dandy for all they know and Mrs MAC hasn’t been missed yet by her sister. If you watch this one enough times you will realize the plot is woven rock solid. There are no holes. Everything fits and all the answers that are meant to be revealed are revealed. Oh, and old phones were brutal sometimes during intense weather conditions or if distance was involve. Jess’s raised voice on the phone makes no one over 50 even blink. It just the way it was. Sometime you had to shout because the integrity of the electronic signal going through the lines would get weaker and then stronger again much like AM signals from distant transmitters coming out of an old car radio. Onions use to be 5 cents...

Do you happen to know the name of the video of Billy's origin or channel name? I can't seem to find it.
@robmann400
@robmann400 Год назад
The yt channel is called ‘Beyond The Mask’ and the video is called ‘Black Christmas Backstoey REVEALED.’ It is [11:49] long. It extrapolates a bit but does it well and will definely give you a better handle on the killer’s mind or lack there of. This backstory is very unpleasant so be aware, non-horror movie types won’t want to here this video in the background. Happy Christmas eh.

Although this movie (as far as I know) was the first to use the line "the calls are coming from inside the house," there is another horror movie from 1979 that this is more relevant at least as far as the title goes called When a Stranger Calls. In that movie similar things at least with the calls coming from inside the same house, but in that case the caller specifically asks the babysitter, "have you checked the children?" Which in contrast to the insane Billy multiple voice calls is much more bone chilling as the call is relevant to her job and the safety of those kids. If you haven't seen it you should check it out.

I have enjoyed horror, movies for years, and I also enjoy watching older TV and movies. But this movie kind of sucked. The characters were mostly all unlikable. The killer was just some deranged nut bag, who murdered people in the most improbable ways just for the sake of shock factor, but because each character was portrayed so badly, you didn’t care if anybody died. Matter fact, I would argue that the first death in the movie the girl was a nice innocent person, and probably felt like the worst..

The fact that some of the SCTV (Canadian version of SNL) are the supporting cast somehow makes this even better. It’s a true Canadian horror film. It was shot in Toronto, but the only thing that could have made it scarier was if it was shot in Vancouver or Victoria. Lots of scary places here.
