The city needs to address this issue…small children could be bitten or mauled…Not to mention the risk of rabies infection. Also, I wonder how many motorbike crashes are caused by these wild dogs 🤔
Last year I got bitten by a dog in Tree Town (I was stupid, because I thought the dog was cute so I tried to pet it). Luckily I met a girl who worked as a taxi driver and she took me to the Memorial Hospital within 15 min. Blood was drawn from my finger. I'm glad I got my rabies shots very quickly. Such a scary disease and 100% deadly. Quite a lot of soi dogs carry it, so you can never be too careful.
@Jesperc888 I didn't think rabies was big over here but your very right. I'm out in the country in Thailand and a bite here is almost a guarantee rabies series injections. You were very smart to be tested!!! Excuse my butting in... Kevin
You did the right thing, Phil by going to hospital. No ill will towards the dogs. They live in the wild or on the streets, have no owners, have never been trained. And their ancestors are wolves. Fortunately, I've never been bit but have been approached aggressively a couple of times, but that's just life. Nice to see you, Phil. All the best. Mitch
Hi Phil . I watched few your older videos and felt so many memories. I first came to Pattaya when u was manager in Secrets. I always love this place bcs of it. I remember u being manager there. Then later i met My wife there .... And ive Been coming to your bar ever since. So, i would like u to make a video about Secrets. How was it, what memories u have, u still have contact with these girls who worked in Secrets Back in 2014-16... Can you make a memorylane video about that era? Thanks and see u in lepub soon. I'm a big fan of yours, met u few Times in lepub... All The best for you and hopefully we Will see soon ;)
Thanks mate and glad you are doing well. Secrets was a bit of a marriage bureau. The problem with Secrets is that it’s forever linked with Larry and all the old timers are very passionate and sentimental about him. And for good reason. He’s a legend. But I wouldn’t dare make a memory lane video about Secrets without involving Larry and I’m not sure he’d want to do that with me, which is a shame. I was only at secrets a couple of years. I just think others are far better qualified to talk about the history of that particular venue. My little bar Le Pub has been going nearly 8 years now and may overtake Secrets 11 years. I hope we do.
I have 2 dogs. My vet told me rabies is still in Thailand. She said I am in a higher risk of being bit having a dog and walking them daily so she urged me to get preventative shots for rabies. 20 years ago I was relocated to Shanghai. I was working for a global company that had a global doctor who set up medical staff in each country. He gave me all the shots which I questioned were necessary. He told me the CFO that had been sent before me had sent his wife n kids 3 months earlier settle in. He turned up and played with the kids and dog was protective and bit him. He was dead from rabies within 48 hours…hence why this company had set up these procedures. Without panicking that could have also happened to you so you 100% did the right thing. I would definitely discuss this with the man who looks after but unlikely owns these dogs so he can warn others and possibly yell at the dog when it does it again. Because it will. These dogs will walk behind you and if no eye contact will bite again. If you weren’t looking in the camera and looked at it in the eyes it would not attack. You are a good man handling this the way you have and will drop in for a beer when in town next.
I had the same last year but on bicycle, they always come from behind......they are an absolute nightmare here and this is my second time having jabs and a 4K plus bill including follow ups etc at Bangkok hospital.......................always always always get jabbed coz if you start frothing, there aren't any second chances....................................
Hi Phil. Good post!! Soi dogs out my way and everywhere. They start coming out on guard at 5 pm in their packs. And their around all days. Sad thing is when your trying to explore small villages temples etc your always met at the beginning of the soi or on the grounds by soi dogs... They truly are a nuisance. Been this way for years. Our housekeeper was bit 3 weeks ago on her scooter coming to work. Many times you have to get the series of injections at the hospital too. Just nasty. Dog lover or not.
I love dogs but they are a real problem in parts of Thailand. Luckily there don't seem to be that many in Pattaya in the main tourist areas however I have still seen a few around. I have been bailed up by dogs a few times in Thailand - usually at night when they get around in packs in quieter areas when I am on a scooter. A few years ago, I was passenger on the back of a scooter in Udon Thani & cracked a dog on the snout with a bottle of scotch I was carrying purely to prevent getting bitten, or maybe even pulled off the back of the bike if the dog got a good grip as it was a big dog. I lost the Jonnie Red as I swung so hard that it left my hand after hitting the dog's snout & smashed on the road but the dog probably saw stars & certainly lost interest. I figure that the bottle of Jonnie Red was still considerably cheaper than your hospital bill. Cheers
may have to change the bar name to "LE PUP" hehe.....seriously mate, you did exactly the right thing, you have to be so careful, not just from the chance of rabies, the dogs saliva will carry a number of infections that need treating, take care and good luck
Can i ask the first time you went to the hospital on day 0, you get Tetanus vaccine and 1 rabies shot in 2 arms ore did you get a immunoglobin injection to? I was bitten yesterday in Rayong and went to the city hospital and i only get 1 rabies vaccine in both shoulders, no immunoglobin. 351 baht total cost. Thank you.
I was a postie for 22 years and got bitten numerous times and virtually every bite was on the back of the leg, it's common for them to attack from behind
My friend saw his neighbor''s cat was stuck in his fence last year. My friend loves all animals and went to get the cat loose from the fence, so it wouldn't be attacked by wild animals. While he was trying to help the cat, the cat bit his hand, down to the bone. The cat ran home, and my friend went back home and bandaged his hand. When he came to work the next day, he told me what happened and asked me to get peroxide from the pharmacy. I mentioned the cat bite to the pharmacist, who said my friend should see a doctor right away, because the hand could become infected. He went to see his doctor the next day and his hand healed properly.
It could have been a lot worse Phil , I walk in the other direction every morning up the hill from my condo and under the road and up to the viewing point by the cafe and down around the harbour . In the last 12 months, I've seen a reduction in the number of dogs on that stretch I walk.
If those aren't that American's dogs, then it's just another part of navigating around Thailand. I remember walking back to the pier on Koh Larn when these dogs ran into the street and came at me. One got too close and i stepped aggressively towards him. He circled away, and then his friends came. I took my backpack and just swung it in a circle and down. I had to do this and walk to the pier at the same time for what seemed like 5 minutes, but I was probably closer to 2.
Never been bit but have been chased from the city to the island and each time you think you need a bigger scooter to get away as the dogs seems to have matching scooter speed.
What did man with the beard do with the dog🙈? Teatanus and hospital-visit is important for cat-dog bites even in Europe. No rabies, but a lot of bacteria out there. I have seen nasty examples when an infection spread and developed into sepsis.
I've not encountered angry Soi dogs before but I once got bitten by a red ant at big Buddah and my ankle swelled to the size of a football. I ve had a mosquito bite on my testicles as well and that swelled up. I looked like "Buster Gonad" from Viz.
You suffered for your art on this one! Great video though, thank you. You did the right thing going to hospital. Dogs are sweet, but you can't have them running around biting people from behind for no reason in a country with rabies. Lucky you were wearing clean underwear.... Not that I was looking.
I think the number of homeless dogs is rising in Pattaya. A walk along beach road from end to end this month I saw around 7 or 8 dogs . Also a westerner has an unleashed dog that looks like a it could tow a car.
im glad u took it lightly phil interms of reaction.. i think it was a mixture of the dog protecting his "owner" (american guy) and the fact u was holding the selfie camera stick... you took it the right way... onlh thing i would advise is maybe blur out the americans face in the video...
Its not the dogs fault but YOURS , the dog is sleeping and you come too close and you scream or say something thats why he react , the dog only warning you , if you make more space and be quiet nothing happens, ..........belongs that dog to that man also?
