He is definitely in my top 5 favorite film characters of all time, and my favorite horror film franchise. He wasn't some buffed out Stallone or Schwarzenegger (I do love both of them don't get me wrong) type of character, just a middle/old aged, over-anxious, court psychiatrist with a gun and a trench coat. When I was younger, as much as I liked the other sequels, he was always my favorite part of them and was excellent, even in the ones that are looked down upon, and I still stand by that. Not trying to knock Malcolm McDowell, but I felt his portrayal of the role wasn't that good in my opinion. Donald Pleasance was absolutely phenomenal in his portrayal of this character, his 'Devils Eyes' monologue is the stuff of horror legend and he loved playing the role. When he passed away, the series (to me) just didn't feel the same, and I do like H2O, but not Resurrection. There will always be one Loomis to me, and that's all I need. R.I.P to Mr. Pleasance.
Same here! Wonderfully said and totally get what you mean =D. He is what made Halloween perfect, the way he pronounced his lines, just phenomenal. Malcolm did a good job but replacing Donald is impossible, he's a true Legend. Same here, I actually like Halloween 1, 2, 4, 5 and 6 best, the remakes, 3 and H20 are solid, but Resurrection is quite poor indeed. Beautifully said!
Loomis is one of my all-time favourite heroes. What a badass. There's also something of Van Helsing and Captain Ahab in him that makes him intriguing. Pleasance was a master actor and I agree with every word you said.
Christopher Walker Couldn’t agree more. The series should have ended when he passed away, it’ll never be as good. Myers and Loomis worked like Sherlock Holmes and Professor Moriarty or the Doctor and the Master. Donald Pleasence is the one and only Dr Loomis!
What I love about Dr Loomis is the fact that he was willing to let Michael kill him if it meant he wouldn't hurt anyone else, the man is a selfless hero
Rest In Peace Donald Pleasance For Acting In Halloween Movies And Other Films I Have. Which I enjoy And Also keep his memories alive in my heart.Thank You 💘 ChristineSixteen.
You want HER!!! Here's your little girl!! Michael! Let's play a game! Catch the little girl!!!! Man that scene was terrifying! Donald Pleasance played that role! The best ever! R.I.P DP
agreed but I also think Danielle deserves one for her performance as Jamie in H5, the way she portrayed a traumatised girl, wow just wow, don't think an actress like Hilary Duff could done that
“An hour ago I stood up and fired six shots into him. He just got up and walked away. I’m talking about the real possibility that he is still out there!” Love that line!
He was almost over-qualified for Halloween. I love how much he puts into every scene. It's almost comedic when watching the other actors/actresses. Comedic at how hard HE is acting
The end of Halloween 4 always gives me chills. He tried to kill evil just for it to come back. You can see the facial expression and how hurt he sounds when he sees Jamie had killer her mother. Top tier actor
Haha love it! My Mom introduced me to "Halloween" years ago and, whenever I used to ask her, "So is Loomis actually afraid?" She always gave the best answer: "No. Not anymore. Now he's just PISSED." RIP Mom 🎃
@@danpartridge8584 tbh I hate the new Halloween like a lot, I do watch the remakes for Danielle and H20/Resurrection cause it came out in the 90s/early 2000s which is a big thing for me cause I am a 90s kid myself. But I love the parts with Loomis the most. And I respect 3 cause I had a nice time with Tom Atkins when I met him in 2017.
It's probably been already said in comments below, but I'll say it again with nothing but love and appreciation for the man's skills: My GOSH but Donald Pleasance could act. He could deliver a line, he could give a presence, he could show emotion both in a restrained fashion and unrestrained fashion. He could do so much and I think the reason the Halloween series is the thing he's most known for is because it's the only real film or film franchise that he could REALLY show all his acting abilities. Throughout the Halloween series, I've seen him display fatherly direction and kindness, frustration and rage, despair and resignation to something he disapproves of, fear and shock, obsession and determination. He's just AMAZING as Dr. Loomis because he's shown so much you really believe you've seen a real person. In EVERY role, big or small, Donald Pleasance has done very well. But in Halloween...I got the honor to see a truly amazing actor bring INCREDIBLE skills and talent, bringing a NECESSARY and CRUCIAL element to the Halloween franchise. John Carpenter and some pretty good actors made the Michael Myers character but I assure you....Donald Pleasance MADE the Halloween franchise. I'm 33 and I've missed you for over 20 years. Thank you for everything you've done, Donald Pleasance.
The Shape and the Franchise would not of been what it was without him. Having that 1 character who knew what Michael was and letting him build up the evil that was upon them was more than any jump scare or kill. The speeches were always masterclasses in acting. To this day he is still missed. What an actor Donald was 👏👏
One of the best lines ever (Love all Loomis' lines). BTW I cannot find that comment you posted about the blinking/moving eye, but at that point Jamie was not dead, she was just unconscious. In the Producer's Cut Jamie lives for most of the movie ;-], and the moving eyes is to show how much she has to deal with in her dreams, since she suffered for 6 years continuously. Thought I'd let you know =3
Donald Pleasance left an impact wherever he went, he was awesome, and no one will ever replace him, in my opinion he was the best part of the entire series
Fantastic actor, he was the reason i kept watching the Halloween movies and nobody could have played Doctor Loomis better. His passion for the role made it all the more memorable and he always gave more than 100%!! Doctor Loomis is probably my favourite horror character of all time, badass but at the same time very human!!! RIP Donald.
He was frightened of Michael Myers. He even comes out & says multiple times throughout the films that he's scared. What he is though is courageous. For courage is NOT the absence of fear, but doing what's right even in the presence of fear.
He was always my favorite character. His will to survive to capture Michael alive and the dedication he put in was perfectly portrayed by Donald Pleasance. R.I.P.
Donald Pleasence was brilliant to play Dr Sam Loomis and he did such a memorable role :) . I love the original Halloweenmovie and the scene when he talked about Michael Myers and said he is simply evil and it was nerve chilling and eerie . Halloween still haunts me even today and it's my favorite horror movie and i like the other movies also :)
+lalaxbo Cannot agree more. That was indeed such an amazing scene! Must say he had great lines in all his Halloween movies, like Daniel Farrands says: "The Halloween movies haven't been the same without him". Same here, although I am not a fan of Resurrection.
lalaxbo True, although I am not a fan of H20, I am more into the first six movies, I really love Donald's character, Loomis and I also loved Rachel (Ellie) and Jamie (Danielle & JC).
I really tried to like 4,5 and 6 but i just thought 6 didn't make any sense at all . But it was really fun to see Dr Sam Loomis appear in the movies :). So that's why i prefer the order Halloween 1 and 2 and H20 20 Years Later . I can't wait for Halloween Returns :).
The Theatrical Cut is indeed quite a mess and they treat Jamie like dirt =|. But the Producer's Cut is far more logical and a solid movie, even though Jamie's still recast it's a great movie. I love the character of Loomis and also the character of Jamie, so I guess that's why I prefer 4-6 over H20. Plus in H20 they made Jamie non-canon, which I really found sad since she's my favourite character along with Loomis and Rachel. Me too, although I am not so fond of the plot so far, still hope for a Halloween 9, but still a new Halloween movie is already good ^.^.
Still miss this awesome actor. The Halloween films have never been the same.😢😢😢😢Never got any Oscar nominations for his work. A career that spanned over 40yrs.
Halloween is my favorite movie of all time. To this day I believe Dr. Loomis is the most important part of the movie. Loomis is %50 Laurie is %25 and Michael is %25. Donald Pleasence is one of the greatest actors ever. I've said for years that without him there is no movie....
Donald Pleasence truly gave his heart in the role of Dr. Sam Loomis, The line deliverence, the acting etc. Is just incridible R. I. P. Donald Pleasence You're gonna stay in our hearts forever
Loomis knew more than anyone what an unholy monster Michael Myers was. He was prepared to do everything it took to make sure no one would die again by his hand.
First ran into Donald at Shepperton Studios in England when he was shooting "From Beyond the Grave" for Amicus. Later met with Debra Hill when she and John Carpenter had just finished the first Halloween. Everyone loved him! - Brian McFadden, author "Amicus Horrors," and "The Real Woman Behind Halloween," Debra Hill.
Halloween isn't the same without the late, great Donald Pleasance. His presence in this role commanded attention, not in the same way as Schwarzenegger or Harrison Ford or Sylvester Stallone, but still commanded the attention of the audience. Pleasance's roles in Prince of Darkness, You Only Live Twice (as SPECTRE leader Ernst Stavro Blofeld), and The Great Escape (opposite Steve McQueen) were also solid performances. Thank you Donald for making the Halloween film franchise what it was.
well I work just a few hours a week along with school, but I am having a break from it for 2 weeks now ^.^. So had time to relax much =3. How was work for you?
He was what kept these Halloween movies in check and that's why everybody loved them, ya they kind of got cheesy after part 2 but he expresses his obsession with michael and he feels bad because michael escaped and is now killing, even though he warns people, they all looked at him like he was dumb, and crazy but after they find out they come running to him.. just like a lot of movies people want a explanation and he gave it for michael myers, just like Jason, jeepers creepers, Texas chainsaw massacre, freddy Kruger, people always want a explanation and somebody who knows how to kind of defeat them or at least stop them in a way, that's why Halloween has always been more successful and frightening, I mean everyone thinks michael is human but the evil that possesses him is immortal
I'm surprised Michael didn't drive poor Dr. Loomis to the crazy house. It's almost like he didn't have a life outside of trying to convince everybody how evil Michael was, keeping him locked up and trying kill him to prevent him from killing others smh. His dedication was honorable.
In an early draft of halloween 6, Dr Loomis is now a patient at the sanitarium where Michael stayed all of those years. Tommy then takes over as Michael's opposite number. That idea was scrapped.
Donald Pleasance was so awesome! His mannerisms when describing Michael. His spiel about Michael, saying how he has the blackest eyes, the devil's eyes. Everytime a sheriff or someone calls Michael a man, or a human, Loomis says something like "this isn't a man!" or "you talk of him like he's human. That part of him died years ago." So awesome, and this whole video gave me CHILLS!!! I will watch 3 or 4 Halloween movies, based on the original movie, tonight. Probably the first movie, the second, the fourth, the fifth, and if time permits, the 6th. I already watched H20 last weekend. I won't watch Resurrection, as i thought that was the worst in the series.
He was a paradox - a man of science that had to come and recognize that something supernatural, something pure evil, could exist. He struggled to explain and communicate throughout the entire movie the danger because of how much he had come to personally connect with Michael, something he couldn't immediately communicate with others.
There will never NOT NEVER be another out of this world actor like Donald Pleasence a.k.a Dr. Loomis. This amazing man put extreme hard work in H1,2,4,5,6,7 & I applaud 👏👏 him to it all. Continue to rest in paradise Loomis. #Gonebutwillneverbeforgotten
I like all the halloween movies he's in just a great actor & character in the franchise he makes you get chills every time he talks about michael myers #RIP
I love his actor. He is my favorite. In my opinion the best, talented, charismatic actor of all time. Of course "Halloween", but not only that. Also many other wonderful roles of this unique man.
As much hate as Revenge and Curse get, i loved them a lot, because of Donald Pleasence, he did an amazing job as Loomis, even tho he's gone now, we still have the movies to see his amazing acting skills. R.I.P. Donald Pleasence
same but also cause I love the characters Jamie, Rachel, Tina, Kara, Tommy, Danny and Jamie's baby Steven. Also love how Wynn's the villain. May Donald rest in peace
Damn man RIP Donald Pleasance, there is not another character matched To him as Dr.Loomis every Halloween movie with him in it is amazing especially the original 1978 best acting thank you Legend!! 🎃🖤
The fact that Halloween 4 actually had a Ben tramer mask...and they couldn't make it into the Shatner mask.. Baffles my mind!!! It's gotta be the Biggest editing GAFF in Horror movie History...omg
