Like many others I spent my happiest years on that rock (93-96) working in various places - from Gloster Vaults & Five Oaks pubs to Maples Furniture store & then Jersey Brewery Transport dept. I also met some truly great people who I've lost contact with who helped make 'the rock' one of the most special places on my heart. Went back in Sept 2012 for a visit & couldn't believe The Waterfront as it is today. Thank you for posting this - it brought back a lot of happy memories.
Iam Australian and I've had the privilege of going to Jersey for 5 days on a school Rugby tour back in 1991 a beautiful place to tour the international zoo and st heliers and the history of the place i could retire their my Scottish relatives did at one stage after ww2..
I have visited many times. My Mom and Dad used to take us there. I even went in my Moms tummy. I remember a guest house nr Gorey and tweeking a mans nose as he was holding me up as a child and there was a fish pond. The lady had a gong she rang for breakfast lol. We were in the attic room. I went back in Oct 82 maybe ...stayed in a BB and had enormous breakfasts which we had to feed their dog who sat under the table ... as the food was too big. We visited all the usual. Loved the shops as it was VAT free and the clothes were so different and elegant ... and my friends loved their Xmas perfume presents that year. Went back about 8 years ago and went around in a convertable VW beetle ... great! My daughter loved it too. We stayed at the Beachcombers. Hope to go back to Jersey again.
What a jewel, marvellous ! My dream vacation would be to go there by boat from the German North Sea coast. I just hope the Jerseymen don´t see us as descendants of the occupiers anymore.
This is a bit of a shock. I thought Jersey was an unspoiled quaint historic village. Just look at all those hideous blocks of flats--could be anywhere.
Thanks for a great posting, Brian. While I despised the island's politics-and still do-there were many things I remember fondly from the eight years my family spent on the island in the 90s, above all the beauty of rural Jersey and many parts of the coast. Your video captures this very well.
nice video by the way, its good that u are doing videos on youtube because you dont have much viedos of jersey on here, so keep up the good work. thanks alot
As a "Jersey Bean", Bergerac was amusing to watch due to the vast amount of cut-scenes... It created more or less a fictional Island with routes that don't exist! The "Estate Agent", was actually located in St.Brelade at Red Houses Cross-Roads, it is now a Travel Agency (Bellingham) and is unfortunatly not in the video to see. Hopefully this link will work, maps.google.com/maps?hl=en&tab=wl Any more questions then fire away and I will try to help :)
very nice! I really enjoyed watching this. To me it is very strange to see a French looking place where people are driving slow and using left - hand traffic.. driving in France is completely different! Real good video!
There are a few more chippies on the Island now! The one you are talking about however got demloished back in the mid 90's and turned into a Co-operative... shame because I always used to get my burger and chips there after scouts! A new one opened up a couple of years ago in the area... funilly enough, right beside the Travel Agents I mentioned in the previous post! :) What a small Island eh? :P
How sad it is that a tiny, beautiful place like this is - like much of our crowded world - ruined and homogenized by these modern roads. Makes everywhere look like everywhere else. Sad.
puppiefaces Jersey isn't that small of an island and without roads getting around it would be very hard and I think Jersey still looks beautiful with roads
John Henwood Hi John, I trust you are keeping well. Thanks for your kind comments. Yes I do go to Durrell on occasion. Mostly taking still photos, but always with a video camera at hand. I took this some time ago. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-m6MMFS06Vv0.html all the best, Brian
Hi, I have more videos driving around Jersey. Unfortunatly I can't post the links. In the videos you can change which roads you want to travel on at certain crossroads (web browser only) They are all in my channel. Thanks for watching. Enjoy!
aidan mc farlane the building is still there. I think it is closed now but I can check for you. On the opposite side of the road they have built the new Police Station where the open part of Green Street Carpark was.
You know your way around Jersey I see. Any idea where in 'Bergerac' 4th series episode 'The Last Interview' ( & other episodes) where his girlfriend Susan's Estate office is located? In said episode he is in Beresford St. outside the Market & later during a chase of a villain you see the Exeter Inn in the background..
So you're one of those lovely people who chooses to drive slower in the fast lane than the cars in the outside lane, right next to the outer vehicle as well so no one can get past. :)
no name Hi, the speed limit in Jersey on this road is 40mph in Jersey. It may look like I’m going slow in the fast lane but that’s the speed I was doing. Traffic going faster than 40mph decided to over take me on the inside. Strange how it can be perceived in the video. Thanks for viewing the video. Much appreciated.
