I am always amazed and somewhat jealous whenever I see all the cool stuff campers and overlanders can get into these days. I bought a new 1986 Toyota Truck, that’s what it was called back then, the Tacoma had not been born yet. I put a fibreglass topper on it and went camping almost every weekend all Spring and Summer. Portable fridge freezers were not available, we just used a cooler and some ice, a Coleman two burner camp gas stove and some rocks and an old BBQ grill for the steaks. As none of these great products were available back then, we never missed the convenience. I was also fortunate enough to go overlanding in Africa several times back in those days using Land Rovers or old British army trucks. Our ‘fridge’ was a stainless steel bowl covered with a wet towel. We would buy meat early in the morning, 7 or 8 am, cut it up and place it in the bowl, cover it with the wet cloth or towel and evaporation would suck the heat out of the bowel keeping the meat cool until we stopped for the night and could cook it up. Life on the road would have been so much easier if we would have had a pop top wedge camper and a 12 volt fridge/freezer, but we made do with what we had and slept in ground tents.

The Modcap stuff is super cool and the family camper looks pretty neat. If all goes according to plan, we'll have a Canopy Camper of our own in the next 48 hours. Fingers crossed! If we do, Expo PNW will be its maiden voyage with us! Hopefully we'll see you there.

glad to finally see a video of the mod cap with details i care about! only wish you showed more of the connection between the top piece to the camper. but totally understand that may not be feasible for early prototype at a crowded event. look forward to more video from you covering the expo!

Great new products. Glad to see they've moved away from the diamond plate that you can't stick a lightweight flexible PV panel to. Next they need to explore heat resistant/ reflective coatings. Black in the desert. You think they'd have learned that in the Karoo.

I’ve had a stick on panel on my Alucab for 4 or 5 years and it’s done fine, I honestly think the design of these new roofs might make it harder. It has large open areas where adhesive won’t be able to stick.

Would love to see more about it. Will there be some sort of vent fan for it? Like to see some sort of built in way to circulate air. Thanks for the walk through.

Someone mentioned in another video that they would also be offering a “utility” top option. Where you can pop the roof and stand but there would not be a tent. I would be curious about that, if you get a chance to ask them if that is actually in the plans I only heard about it in one video.

As far as I know, the utility option doesn’t pop up, it’s just a solid roof. Maybe they will introduce that later though who knows.

I believe it’s an Alu Cab drop down table in the kitchen mod of the mod cap.

@@IndependenceOverland when you were looking at the kitchen mod in the new mod cap. You looked at the drop down table and said I think that may be GP Factor’s table. Alu cab is now making the drop down table which is connected to that kitchen mod.

It's crazy to see Lithium on You Tube. Twenty years ago Lithium and its sister trail, Ritalin, were totally bootleg trails. Ritalin was shutdown permanently. A lot of work and cooperation went into getting Lithium to be a legit trail.

It matches with everyone much better. They did offer raw aluminum in the past, but they weren't big sellers so they have been discontinued I believe. These new smooth surface campers can be wrapped though.
