I hope there will be like reverse confessions and that the characters will talk to you first cause imagine if the world was like in games … you friend walking past you ignoring you until you stand in front of them and starting to talk to them…

I don't know if you know the game but it's a fantasy game that has a similar concept as Stardew valley. I just started the game and would love a review video if you ever decide to make one on this game 🙈
I hope to see more and how it will be different from the current star games out; Stardew valley, My time in portia, and others... I seen the others briefly and hope to see how this game grows too. Diverse dialogues perhaps? Maybe if there are different groups, would there be hostility if main character (mc) is friends with many groups, or will they be calm?
I dont get how people be like : "Total rip off of Stardew Valley!! " Stardew Valley is one of my altime favorite games and I would LOVE if there were more games like it.
People also forget Stardew Valley was HEAVILY inspired by Harvest Moon (now Story of Seasons) games. I am a lifelong fan of the HM/SOS series and am so happy to see the farming sim community growing!!
I made a similar comment in my main comment but I agree. I mean if this is a ripoff of Stardew, because it’s a farming game, then isn’t Stardew a ripoff of SoS/HM. Just because games are inspired by other games doesn’t make it a ripoff. Most stories we have are inspired by other things. As long as there are enough differences and no blatant copy, paste and hack job edit without acknowledging the inspiration it’s usually fine

I'm also getting sick of the, "It's like Stardew Valley or it's a copy," like people do know there were farming sims and rpgs before Stardew, right? Overall this looks great and I can't wait just like Coral Island.
Silly right? If anything someone comparing it to Stardew just makes me more interested seeing as I love that game. Why would it do any harm to have similarities! That's how creativity happens lol people just nitpick sooo much nowadays.

I love how most of these kinds of games focus on showing an older or more traditional farming lifestyle and here is Sunnyside having a fully functioning phone and laptop with complicated tech options like solar panels. So cool!
I know right? It sounds so exciting...I've seen too many games being in early development and then going "bye bye" after getting money from patreon/donations...so I hope this is not one of those, I can't wait to see it being played or play it myself

You had me at the rival relationships, I love it when it's used in games, it makes it far more realistic and like my character isn't truly the center of the world! I'm definitely going to pre-order it!
We've been pretty adamant through creation that the character not be the focal point of everything. We really want the town to feel alive and for the characters to have lives outside their relationships with the player. :)
Depends really.. Rival system makes me feel like, i "steal" the Romance options from the rival. Because usually, they are the canonical romance path. So.. I kinda hesitate to touch the game.
@@nibblesnarfer I'm the same, sometimes the rival character gets better events and storylines with that character too vs nearly silent mc with one line replies. Then I feel bad breaking up the couple only to confine them to my home to do nothing. I hope there are platonic friend events for the leftover rivals too.

He described literally nothing. No one cares how hard it is to bang the old lady or how gender neutral your character can be. That doesn't affect 99% of people. How in-depth is growing? How many crops? Do they have seasons? Does soil quality matter? WIll I manage macronutrients? Taking things to sell to the store is the shipping bin with extra steps and you need to UPGRADE TO a shipping bin AKA a truck tha sells things for you. The hose is nice but it's just an upgraded watering can, it's not revolutionary. Just a cute detail. The snow and rain can be bought in things like the Unity store. They're nice but how do they affect the farming? He described nothing of the actual gameplay. With that horrible looking gathering is it ever anything more than walk here, hold E, walk here, hold E? Is there danger? He showed nothing. Oh and the cellphone thing is cute until you realize it was just an "immersive" way to avoid having to program in or design other areas. You just do everything in a menu. Nice.
This sounds almost too good to be true! Stardew valley gives me anxiety because the days are so short, so it’s really cool to get some hope for an engaging farming sim that’s this in depth and beautiful.

You know what impresses me the most? Usually when people try to make things more realistic, it loses aesthetic appeal, but this game still looks pretty regardless.
I CAN'T WAIT. The only bad thing about all the exciting and new farming/life sims coming up is that they're all released from 2022 and onward. I wish I had one that could play immediately.
Well, the Coral Island alpha is right around the corner (July 31st). It's far from finished will be pretty buggy, but it's something new that you can get your hands on asap!
"There is no watering can!" Cut to me thinking "Surely they wouldn't just use a hose? That would be too easy and too true to real life for a farming sim-- oh my *god* they're using a hose!" So anyway, that detail alone has me hooked.
Just have to say that the algorithm pushed this video to me and I'm so glad it did, I immediately subscribed to your channel! You seem to have the exact same taste in video games as me and I'm so excited to have a new source of recommendations and news on upcoming games. Also, this game looks incredible, I have to say I'm a little intimidated by the potential of the high level of realism to be overwhelming but I'll have faith in the devs meaning it when they say they want to balance realism and fun :)

I like that they’re making it so that there’s actually *realistic reasons* for not being able to date anyone that have to do with the character’s actual preferences and personality. Don’t get me wrong, I’m a sucker for games that let me date absolutely everyone, but it irks me even more when there are characters you can’t date and there’s no in-game *reason* for it. Glad they’re crafting a system that makes dating eligibility make more sense. Would be nice if there were poly options tho…
@@beep3242 We've been talking about it a lot lately, and honestly we can't even wrap our heads around how we would implement it. We will keep chatting about it, but please understand that we are under a lot of restrictions (time, money, coding structure, etc.)
@@seileach67 POSSIBLY. And I say that very hesitantly. We are talking a lot about how we want to handle long term relationships in this game, poly or not, and those decisions will have a huge impact. All I can do is keep saying we hear you guys, and we are looking into the options that will work while still maintaining the integrity of the story we are trying to tell.
The body type slider and lack of required gender.... i welled up ngl c": as a nonbinary person, that really hits me in a very special place. I know that may seem silly to many, but being able to showcase my *real* self in a game, esp a life sim, is so...wow. 💗💗 i wish these devs the best luck moving forward!!!
This isn't silly in the slightest. We know we are risking some bad press or people calling SunnySide a "SJW game" but honestly, we don't care. It's more important to us that we shine a light on all the members of the gaming community that usually go unnoticed and unrepresented in video games. We see you, and we love you!

Haha, it's really gotten SO much better in the past few months. I'm glad you like the coverage though :) I think half the fun of indie titles is seeing where they come from and end at.
This looks incredible! Loving all the features - and I was just as excited as you by every feature you announced!! Ordering seeds online!! The hose!! Owning your own shop to sell the produce?!! Vehicles!! The environmental system!!! More dynamic and engaging NPC dialogue!!! Plus just the look of the world is already amazing! If it looks this good now, then it's going to look amazing when it's done!
Right? Go watch my first video on it if you haven't yet. The progress that was made, visually, in 4 months is pretty dang impressive. The improvements won't be as dramatic in 4 months from now, but improvements will keep being made and that has me excited. NPC models and hair physics, to name a few.
This looks interesting and very ambitious. I like that character creator, and I love that they used a drone to make sense of the construction mode. This is the kind of thing I was waiting for, an interesting and modern farming game.
I love the mechanics being explored (or revolutionized) in this game. The UI and portraits look great too. But it feels like the 3D character models don't mesh well with the world. It's still in development, and pretty early, so maybe that'll change? I look forward to hearing more updates!
I agree with you on that one. They have that black shading around them while nothing else does. It's all WIP and I'm sure community feedback will play a big part, so keep it coming!
HAHAHA!! Our main goal isn't farming realism, but rather to balance out the fun of running a farm with the general tedious nature of it. We want players to have the chance to spend time doing the fun parts of farming, like deciding what plants to grow or laying out pretty paths and lighting, while streamlining all the processes that can make it boring: hours of watering, tending to every animal individually, etc. Doing this will free up the player to spend more time in town chatting with their neighbors and exploring the world. :) Not to mention there is a whole section of the game we are keeping under wraps right now ;)
I think it's very cool that you're basically giving free advertisement and some exposure to developing games that I, at least, didnt know about before! I havent actually got my hands on many farm sims yet but these videos are fun! :)
Haha, I'm glad you enjoy it! It's a really cool partnership. It helps me and them at the same time. It's fun getting close to indie dev teams, learning all the things, and then basically promoting them.
Um excuse me how have I never heard of this?!! Also I really really love how the plants/trees look in this game, the Japanese aesthetic they're going for too. Oh oh also doing away with one tile watering... THANK GOD. that was always a tedious part in farming sims for me. I think it's an awesome idea letting you do stuff via your phone like order seeds, I just hope there are lots of good reasons to go into town though alongside talking to npcs; apart from that and buying seeds in other games, the main town area was a little boring(your own shop though YAY!!! Great!!) So excited for this. Definite buy. Good luck, devs
Haha, I consider it my unofficial job to fix that whole "how have I never heard of this" problem. Happy to help! And yeah, there'll be plenty of reasons to go into town. You can text someone to set up a time to hang out, for example, but that's not a replacement for actually hanging out in person. And they'll have a nearby town/city that you have to take a bus to get to where there will be things to do. Lots of exciting things to come!

I often agree with ppl when they talk about stardew clones. Stardew earned the right to be the new standard for farming sims because it expanded the mold and brought in new, fresh ideas. That's something that even story of seasons/harvest moon hasn't done since the early days. Maybe if they put in more effort, they can reclaim that title. And since stardew established the new farming sim standard, most games have just utilized its concepts and qol improvements. Portia was one game though that I never understood the comparison. It doesnt share much with stardew and should never have been put under that label. This game though separates itself for both reasons. It seems to be aiming for something different than stardew, but in the farming sim aspect it also is trying to reach beyond the stardew standard. I appreciate the creative effort that these developers have put in and hope they succeed in their endeavors.
I...I don't know what to say. This looks absolutely INSANE and I am very much excited for this! If it takes one or more years to complete, I won't complain at all! As long as the quality is high and the attention to detail is there, that's all I need!

Aww, haha, that's sweet! Yeah, they're doing a good job of not overpromising, in my opinion. Plenty of features are already "yeah, we'll add it, but not till after the game is released", so they're prioritizing what's crucial first.
Sounds like they are doing a crossover of elements from Harvest Moon/Stardew Valley and Farming Sim 19. I'm liking these new farm sims cropping up shooting for small, more realistic, and more eco-sustainable build options. One of my biggest complains about Farm Sim is that it's very catered toward big machines and mono-cropping and I really want a Homesteading experience option in the game. So these sims currently in dev are super exciting to hear about!
Depending on their resources, yeah. It requires modeling WAY more characters than just two, and therefore way more time, and time is money. Sadly that's how it works!
I immediately noticed that the NPC’s character portraits were similar to Persona’s character portraits. So stoked to see that they also were inspired by the relationship building aspect in persona. Such a promising game!
Oh yeah, when all is said and done, this will likely be taking more elements from Persona than other farm sims. Think Persona, but with running a farm as a very flushed out side activity :D
The farming mechanics are so realistic!! Awesome. I love almost everything about it but I hope they improve the avatar design and the ambiance. Maybe it's just the video, but the color looks a bit gloomy. Anyway I'd play this!
It's a healthy blend of realism and fun, without going too far towards the Farming Simulator side of things, lol. And yeah, the avatar design has been and still is a work in progress. It stands out a bit from the environment, and you're not the first to mention that! As for the gloominess, that might just be the shots from the cloudy days. The sunny days are beautiful, in my opinion!

I won't lie, I saw this on kickstarter and I was not blown away by the graphics at the time but I have to say this has progressed A LOT since then and it actually looks like something I would love to play, especially with regards to the realism. I love that it actually sort of teach people the reality of farming.
Haha, that's kind of what made me want to make this video in the first place. I watched my first SunnySide video back and just said "wow, it doesn't look anything like this anymore". Hence this video!

Even though it has a sense of realism, I think this team seems to have a plan to keep a sense of realism but also a sense of immersion to this game. I honestly can't wait for more news on this. Oh my gosh this sounds amazing, I’ll wait as long as necessary for this to come out because I want this to be the best farming sim/life sim I’ve played. I love stardew valley, some of the old harvest moon games, the sims, animal crossing, etc but man I want this to be incredible, and it already looks to be on that path
This is unbelievably sick and I think will fill a void for a lot of players out there. Ever since I played Harvest Moon AWL as a kid I've been waiting for a farming game to be BEAUTIFUL instead of chibi and lacking dimension. And then the mechanics on top of that!?

This game is like Stardew Valley, Harvest Moon, Farming Simulator, well as The Sims, Minecraft, kinda Animal Crossing, and etc. Man, I should try this game out when the game is released.

This looks so incredible, this is everything I’ve ever wanted in a farming Sim and SO SO much more!! I am pretty bummed that there’s no polyamory, though. I get it that it can be another big chunk to deal with character interactions and consequences, but it still sucks to see it never really be implemented, especially with a game like this that seems really dedicated to fleshing out the NPCs and their relationship with the player and other townsfolk. Maybe one day, though!
Honestly, I've been thinking about this a lot today. I think as a team.. if we can find a way to make it work, then we definitely will. It certainly won't be an available option for all the characters, because it's not the kind of thing that everyone would be interested in, and we want to preserve the preferences of the NPCs. BUT.... we have been tinkering with ideas. We haven't forgotten that Polyamory exists, it's more about "how do we implement that?". So, we do see you folks!

Even if it doesn’t get implemented, because god knows it’ll add some time, the fact that it’s something you guys have thought about means the world! And yeah for sure, not everyone irl is poly so it tracks that not all the NPCs would be, either! Heck, depending on how far down you wanna go with it, you can have NOCs that are fine with poly but only in Vs, or are poly but won’t date you if you’re dating, like, their mortal enemy, OR who only want to be in poly relationships where everyone’s loving on each other, and even then the dialogue trees that could spawn… i am getting ahead and rambling, it such an exciting and daunting prospect! That aside though, it’s very cool of you guys to take the time out to respond to this sort of thing! Everything that I’ve seen from it so far is phenomenal, and I’ll be following and supporting the whole way!
@@RainyGames oh I totally understand the potential optics you have to hurdle around, wanting to do the “”right thing””, or just things that you want and that make people happy, without it feeling tokenistic or forced; it’s a really weird side effect of like, the sociopolitical dichotomy, haha! And yes, I’ve noticed that you guys are spread far and wide after reading up on the kickstarter page, which is dope, being able to work with people who really love what they’re working on! It might seem like a really small act, but I think it speaks volumes about the type of team you guys are! This isn’t something necessary, but just the acknowledgement and just, genuine interest in the community and just engaging in pleasantries really shows me the love in this project. Looking forward to keeping up with updates and progress, and for that early access release this fall! You guys are doing some incredible things here, and I know things are going to get even better!

The wind blows through the trees... For years I've been wanting a farm sim that had more realistic weather, rune factory 4 came close but this is simply beautiful.

I am very keen to play this and appreciate it is trying something new with the genre. I will say that too much tech ruins the like comfy simplistic vibes so seeing stuff like texting over chatting irl ruins the farm escapism. I also think there is such thing as too much realism but I am glad you touched on this and I think there is a space for realism for those who want it. I think my favourite part of this game is how pretty it is like the scenery is relaxing me already~
Yeah, from what I've seen there's a good balance of realistic features, but at the same time, gameifying them to make them actually fun. And texting won't replace chatting with NPCs. It's just another way to interact with them.
A farmland with only a tent. The backstory must be Tom nooks sells you the land and only gave you a tent to sleep with. Then you need to grow crops to pay your massive debt.

They have plans to release it to consoles! But they are focusing on PC release first! Once they do release for consoles I'm gonna order it for my switch as well
@@Salmon612 yeah, I'm conflicted on that subject. If I get it on switch I can take it anywhere and the playing almost doesn't have to stop for too long... But if they improve the graphics the switch won't handle it very well, but if I get it on PS4 then it would be easy... But this feels like a game I would be playing for months... So maybe the switch would be a better choice... I don't know.
@@noahjahnsen7841 yeah, that's completely understandable. Hopefully they'll optimize the game for switch later on, but I'm going to focus on the PC release!
I'd wait to see if they can score a publisher or not. If they do, that will help significantly with the console porting, as well as getting all the necessary permissions to have their game on those platforms in the first place.

I feel like they were starting to die down. HM first came out in… 96? And after that a few titles came here or there. They got the rune factory spin off. It was a small but growing genre. Then after HM a new beginnings, it seemed like the genre was gonna die out. Then sometime in the mid to late 2010s, stardew valley blew up and now they’re popular again. This is from my own personal experience, there could have been great farming/life sims coming out that I just never heard of.
Yeah, the way I remember it, HM said "no, we're not going to make a HM game for the PC. There isn't a market for it." Then SDV came out, blew it out of the water, everyone saw it could be done and how much fun farm sims were, and then people started making them like crazy. I'm thankful for that :)
I wish there was a new farming game that didn’t use tech. Part of the escapism of video games for me is getting away from the city life, phones, cars I’ll still give this a try though!
You'll need to clarify the use of tech because even real-life uses tech in actual farming. I'd like to think I've played a good amount of farming sims but this is the first I've seen used a cellphone with apps. The most tech stuff I've seen in games I've played have been a tv or radio as far as technology used. Granted, the games I've played have only been the HM/SoS/RF and SDV games. I don't know if Portia uses tech but I'm sure Farming Simulator probably might.
Being able to hang pictures in your house makes me think of Harvest Moon: Animal Parade, my favorite entry in the Harvest Moon/Story of Seasons series. That’s a really cool detail.
