Nate Leipciger survived the Holocaust at his father Jacob’s side. On multiple occasions, Nate’s life was spared by his father’s quick thinking and heroic tactics. To honor Father’s Day, we remember Jacob Leipciger and celebrate fathers who risk their own lives to protect their children.
Nate Leipciger was born in Śląsk, Poland in 1928. He survived the Sosnowiec ghetto, and the Ampfing-Waldlager, Auschwitz I, Dachau, Flössberg, Fünfteichen, Gross Rosen, and Leonberg concentration camps. Nate was liberated by United States armed forces at Ampfing-Waldlager. In 1948, Nate and his father immigrated to Canada.

As of today, 4/19/2024, Mr. Leipciger is still alive and well! Working to educate and advocate for tolerance. What an amazing man and an amazing story!

I think this is one of the best testimonies. Mr. Leipciger's sharp memory and his character made for a fast moving story full of details. Keeping his faith while so many others did not is a testament I admire. I'm so glad he had his father with him and ended up with a beautiful wife and family. SALUTE, Mr. Leipciger!

THAT IS INCREDIBLE! This man had only 5 years of formal education... learned introductory algebra English after the war and ... "On arrival in Toronto in 1948, Mr. Leipciger entered Harbord Collegiate Institute, graduating in 1950. After one year of Honours Science at the University of Toronto, he transferred to Electrical Engineering and graduated in 1955 with the degree of BASc."... In 1962, together with three partners, he established a Mechanical and Electrical Consulting Engineering firm. In 2008, they became a subsidiary of a multi-national engineering firm. At that time, the firm consisted of over 100 engineers and designers who came from 26 different countries. What is clear is that aside from being so accomplished, he is a humble man

In the late 60's early 70's Nate's firm provided engineering services to our Architectural firm on many projects and it was always such a rich experience working with him and his associates. I remember well a very long lunch I had with him and he shared with me much of the saga of his journey with his father. From a distance I have followed his later life. A truly remarkable man.

Very visual story. At times had to pause.. its horrendous how inhuman and conditioned you become under such circumstances. I'm very glad they survived. I'm so Sorry about other family members and many many many others! God be with you all.💫🌺🌸🌺💫

A very interesting story, of father and son in a dangerous time of life, death, and of survival. But what sort of friends he grew up & played with.. they no doubt were all very immature and somewhat 'fair-weathered' and fickle, and confused, thanks to the biased Priests, and no doubt their parents. But this was only the beginnings of more trying and dangerous times to come. His father was very caring, protective of him, and savvy. a very smart man and parent. Bless both of them and their family and heritage. His fathers common sense, and (so-called) savvy Smarts.. save him and preserved his bloodline for generations.

My grandfather who was 12 years old when the war started, and he told me when the Germans came into his town he could smell them, he told me that a couple of young soldiers came into his home asking for water, he said they wanted to rest for a bit and one of them took his boots off, and he said the stench was putrid and that it lingered in their home for days.
