I've never played this game but have heard about it. Thanks for this playthrough, it must have been quite the undertaking to film and edit. Your attention to detail and high quality videos are appreciated! Hope you guys had fun!

Hi Monster Mash! A Feast for Odin is a pretty big game alright but we did have a lot of fun playing it. I really enjoyed zoning out trying to "Tetris" the pieces on the home board and exploration boards, and it's fun figuring out the best way to get the pieces to go on the boards. There are a plethora of options so every time you can try something different and that really kept us entertained! Thanks a lot for the comment!

This was so fun to watch. I've never seen anyone take the strategy of exploring right away and waiting until the last round to fill up the main board. My favorite aspect of this game is just how many different viable strategies you can take.

Hi Bear Hands, Really glad you had fun watching the video. This game really does have a lot of ways to win it. We like to explore early on because the bonuses on the islands are generally better than the ones on the main board and it is good to get them out early. There is usually a race to get Iceland because it give a good, easy-to-get financial boost, and whoever goes first generally gets their hands on it. Wonderful game!

@@AllAboardBoardgames Hey! It's getting cooler now in Arizona, but we are going to be moving to south of Washington in a few months. I'm going to miss the sunshine here for sure. How's everything over there? I was watching your Le Havre video last week, and I immediately purchased the game after. So good! Idk why I had been sleeping on it since I am such a fan of Uwe Rosenberg.

Hahaha good game. I thought Glai had that for sure. Blocking that storehouse was the game winner probably! Funny, I got Feast for Odin a week ago, and if I had looked for playthroughs of it at that time, this video wouldnt have existed. One thing that surprised me was how the main board was much less of a big deal that I would have expected. I think if it was my first game I'd have been trying to fill in my main board, but those islands turned out to be much more worth it. Thanks for the video! Happy gaming!
@AllAboardBoardgames
@AllAboardBoardgames 2 года назад
Hi Taco Taco, Nice - that was good timing for our release so! :) Did you get a chance to play it? I'm a big fan of this one. Yeah, I think blocking that space for Glai was what clinched it in the end. She had a lot of food that could have gone in the long house, and the extra points for the knarr as well would have been tough to catch up on. The main board has some nice bonuses and income, but for me there are too many empty spaces with no negative values nor bonuses on them so I think that the islands work out much better. I usually ignore the main board (apart from covering the zero income space so it generates 1 income) and then at the end try to cover as many of the negative values as I can.

@@AllAboardBoardgames I just finished my first solo play through about 30 minutes ago. So fun! I've been pretty obsessed with Agricola lately, but I was finally ready to punch this out and give it a go. I used your technique of exploring instead of filling up my home land right away and it felt really nice being able to get the bonuses from Iceland so quickly. My starting occupation was "tutor" which said at anytime I can pay 1 silver to play an occupation. I learned that right away, and then paid 1 silver for anything that was worth more than 1 point or useful to me. Seemed like a really good starting occupation if I played that right. Super happy with this game though, and I will definitely be playing it a lot more!
@AllAboardBoardgames
@AllAboardBoardgames 2 года назад
@@upowlnight That's really great to hear man. I agree with you on Agricola - it's a really fun game. I think I like A Feast for Odin almost as much, if not as much. Early exploration is great! Getting those early bonuses is very nice, and then they keep coming all game. Tutor is fantastic too. I tend to take a lot of 3 Viking actions, so it is nice to be able to play the occupation cards without using a separate action or taking the 4 Viking space. The Preceptor card is nice too - it allows you to play an occupation instead of drawing one. I'd be interested to hear how your strategies develop after you have played it a good few times!

Hi John. Thank you very much for the comment. We're delighted our video helped you to decide to get this game. A Feast for Odin is a lot of fun, and one of my favourite games! Let us know how you get on over the weekend. I would say that you should try to get your hands on an island or two, and don't worry too much about getting bonuses from the main board, though you will want to cover up as many of the negative points as you can by the end of the game. Iceland is probably the best to get your income up. But just try out all of the actions you can and after a game or two you will get a good feel for it. Looking forward to hearing what you think about it when you get to play!

Pat, did you play an ock in r6 with your 4-viking move? Excellent playthrough! Gave me plenty of ideas for my next 3- or 4-player contest! Yeah, Iceland definitely the prime exploration choice. Hi Geoff. Good spot there - I did indeed forget to play an Occupation card there. I have stuck a note into the Klingon subtitles now. Thanks for that. A Feast for Odin is a great game! I would like to try it with the Norwegian expansion some time. Agreed on Iceland - 16 points with a great income bonus and easy enough to fill, along with the oil and fish for only 2 Vikings make it the best island in the game I think. I also like the whale meat bonuses on Greenland and Baffin Island, which are nice big pieces to upgrade later. I hope you enjoy Hallertau. Have you played it? It's a real brain burner!

We haven’t played with The Norwegians expansion but it looks pretty good. I would say that to start with the base game alone is fine and a lot of fun. If you play it a lot and need to change things up a bit then the expansion will add something new so would be worth getting but if not then probably no real need for it.
