actually both of them have non-conflicting/interesting point of views when it comes to feminism that is fixated towards that region. just wish the debate was longer, anthropologically speaking, both of them would have wound up agreeing on a bottom process to repair the suffrage of gender equality, yet both are academics from different fields so interpretations differ. it is a touchy subject to avoid the constant ignorant dehumanization and orientalism conflated by western lenses whenever discussing arab regions.
I don't think it's fair to say they have "non-conflicting" points of views. Saba is very critical of the brand of liberal feminism that Mona seems to be espousing. I don't think there are even any common grounds where both of them could agree. I also would have loved to see an extended debate, I honestly think Saba would have eaten her alive.

Do you know how many schools of thought there have been in all of Islamic history?Even the companions of the prophet use to disagree on matters of fiqh (Islamic law/ rulings). There are so many contradicting hadiths, that different scholars in the past have argued over what the prophet actually said. Throughout the whole history of Islam, people have always had different opinions and even interpreted words in the Quran differently, for example the hijab. For anyone to say it’s all black and white is ridiculous and had never been the case until pre-colonialism. Anyone reading this should research about the history of Saudi Arabia and the wahabi movement and there links to the British (Who btw named Saudi Arabia after the sa’ud family).

What on earth is Saba Mahmood talking about? She keeps attacking Mona Eltahawy for something she has not said about Arab culture. It's frustrating when people simply don't listen to what is being said.
***** I don't think I did miss the point. Religion, including Islam and Christianity is often used to justify uncivilized behaviour. Those assertions need to be challenged. That was the point Mona was trying to make. She was not arguing that Arab or Islamic culture was to blame. Saba Mahmood kept throwing that accusation at her as a "straw man" argument.

Do you know what I find really pathetic about this Ch4 presenter when he starts attacking Mona Eltahawy? His ignorance is so profound he talks of Islamic culture. Islam is a religion not a culture. He gets paid a lot of money for his job. The least he could do is learn the basics before leading a debate that affects millions of muslim girls.

Hagag Hamed that is how you have a 'debate'. Two people with DIFFERING views. Why is it not ok for outsiders to comment on 'our' culture. I am sure you comment on other cultures and countries of the world. Secondly it is better for everyone to hear two sides to every story, so you can reach an informed conclusion.
