The Sussex Trophy is traditionally all about the fight at the front between Ferrari 246S Dino, Lister Knobbly and Lotus 15. But this year a pair of interlopers got involved in the fight. The Lister Costin and Tojeiro Jaguar showcased that there is far more to be seen in this race for late-1950s sportscars than just Ferrari and Lotus.

What a spectacle of power and skill in vehicles that are nearly 70yrs. young! It was pure racing excitement!

I’m all for safety, but when every race at Goodwood is compromised so badly, what’s the point? Just have a 10 minute procession and give the trophy to the pole sitter. The car that stalled could have been pushed by a couple of guys backwards into the pit lane. Maybe it’s time we stop any competitive motor sport and just do online racing. This is awful as a spectator.

Agree, I guess they not allowed on track, crazy situation. Wasted 6 minutes of incredible racing!

I watched the livestream. Absolutely gutted that the Ferrari broke. It is so poised to win the race again...

@@stratman9449 Like I said, it's poised to win again. That car not only survived this race multiple times over the years, it also normally finishes in the top spot. It retiring is pretty rare. Last time that Ferrari retired from mechanical issues is back in 2016. It won in 2017, 4th in 2018, 2nd in 2019 and 2021.

If the gearbox had exploded, pushing might not of been possible. Driveline might have seized.

The Lotus that failed off the line is a Lotus 15. On those cars, the driveshaft also works as the upper wishbone of the rear suspension, hence if it breaks, which seems to be the case in that car, it might've been pretty difficult to push it, as it basically suffered both driveshaft and suspension failure on the same wheel...

@@bobstuart2638 come to think of it, you have a point there. They could use those wheeled jacks that the marshalls at Monaco use. Problem is, I doubt that could be used when the said car is stranded on the grass or the gravel trap.

@@jcgabriel1569 The dolly could have big, soft tires from an ATV for grass, and a mat of boards laid down if necessary on the gravel. It could even be powered. Vehicle recovery could use some of the same development we see in pit stops.

these sportscars are and were the most beautyful cars ever to be built in britain.....and iloved them just as much when they first apeared late 50s early 60s.....yep....more please...... and yes...i wouldn t' mind one of those super nimble Lotus 15s myself.....ha.

The stewards need to get cars out of the way faster, this is the 3rd race that I've seen in 2022 that were ruined by safety cars.

That thing couldn't have weighed more than 1800 lbs. And you brought out a flatbed? 2 guys could have pushed it over to the side in seconds!

It's amazing it takes them so long to move a car off the track , that stalled car should have been pushed aside immediately, no reason for the safety car at all. Same for most incidents here

"HOLY CRAP" A 1.25sec. lap in a 1950s drum brake car Is unbelievable!!! Crap geometry compared to the 60s Jags , Cobras etc. Wow

I love racing whether it's Cars, Motorcycles, Trucks & any form of motor competition. That start was terrible. You have the Wood Lotus-Climax breaking at the standing start. That should've brought out a Red flag & the field should've gone around & lined up before the chicane & stayed there until the roll-off recovery truck finished loading the Lotus. Then they should've been brought up & sorted themselves in their original starting order. Then the race would've been started fairly. Very poor race start protocol.
