CLIP DESCRIPTION:
Lt. Cdr. Galloway (Demi Moore) gets in the face of Lt. Kaffee (Tom Cruise) in an attempt to shame him into action, but it doesn't quite work.
FILM DESCRIPTION:
In this military courtroom drama based on the play by Aaron Sorkin, Navy lawyer Lt. Daniel Kaffee (Tom Cruise) is assigned to defend two Marines, Pfc. Louden Downey (James Marshall) and Lance Cpl. Harold Dawson (Wolfgang Bodison), who are accused of the murder of fellow leatherneck Pfc. William Santiago (Michael de Lorenzo) at the U.S. Navy base at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. Kaffee generally plea bargains for his clients rather than bring them to trial, which is probably why he was assigned this potentially embarassing case, but when Lt. Commander JoAnne Galloway (Demi Moore) is assigned to assist Kaffee, she is convinced that there's more to the matter than they've been led to believe and convinces her colleague that the case should go to court. Under questioning, Downey and Dawson reveal that Santiago died in the midst of a hazing ritual known as "Code Red" after he threatened to inform higher authorities that Dawson opened fire on a Cuban watchtower. They also state that the "Code Red" was performed under the orders of Lt. Jonathan Kendrick (Kiefer Sutherland). Kendrick's superior, tough-as-nails Col. Nathan Jessup (Jack Nicholson), denies any knowledge of the order to torture Santiago, but when Lt. Col. Matthew Markinson (J.T. Walsh) confides to Kaffee that Jessup demanded the "Code Red" for violating his order of silence, Kaffee and Galloway have to find a way to prove this in court. A Few Good Men also features Kevin Bacon as prosecuting attorney Capt. Jack Ross and Kevin Pollak as Kaffee and Galloway's research assistant, Lt. Sam Weinberg.

Again. This is a movie. It is not a documentary. It is intended to be entertaining. Why watch a Hollywood big budget movie with Hollywood stars and be deeply disappointed that they -- of course -- get nearly everything wrong, if viewed through the lens of "it needs to be a flawlessly accurate documentary"? Further, there is no intent to make "service men and women look bad at every possible opportunity." There is only one intent -- here, and in similar movies -- and that is to tell an interesting story with interesting characters. There's way too much inference from some on the 'Net that Hollywood has "an agenda". The agenda is to make a successful entertainment. It rarely gets deeper than that.

The next time after that, nommed for Jerry McGuire, with... Geoffrey Rush (won, for Shine), Ralph Fiennes (The English Patient), Woody Harrelson (who I'd forgotten was ever nommed for an Oscar... Larry Flynt), and Billy Bob Thornton (Sling Blade). He was also up at least once for a Best Supporting Oscar... alongside Michael Caine (won, for The Cider House Rules), Michael Clarke Duncan (The Green Mile), Jude Law (Talented Mr. Ripley), and Haley Joel Osment (The Sixth Sense). So... he is in good company for those who were up for Academy Awards but did not win any. However: movies he was in won for Best Picture, including Rain Man.

I was watching Mollys Game and there was something about the dialogue that was just annoying me. Then she goes to her attorneys office for the first time and about halfway through the scene Im like "Oh... this is clearly Aaron Sorkin". And I was right. That "too clever" dialogue is just overbearing AF.

@@paulgilbert2506 It works once or twice but once you get the specific tick it ends up quite annoying. Its not nearly as clever as it thinks it is.

Demi Moore: I do know you. Tom Cruise: In that case you have absolutely no reason to tell me stuff I already know. Its not like there's an audience curious to know who I am. This is allegedly a realistic conversation between two people. Demi Moore: Oh.

Cruise was extremely good back in the day, especially back in '92 when A few Good Men and Far And Away came out. Born On Fourt Of July and The Last Samurai are also favourites of mine. I like the Mission Impossible movies aswell but I think A few Good Men, Far And Away and The Last Samurai are his best ones.

IMO, one of the best elements of the plot is that they never did have a romantic affair. To have done so would have been so cliché. Excellent movie, BTW.

I would have had a very difficult time sitting in front of her, while she delivered those lines, and not begun to crack up. Especially if I was the puppet that knew my next line was supposed to be "Wow, I'm sexually aroused Commander" and I'm supposed to keep a straight face.

This is a a great scene. I watched this move a few times. I was wondering something hope some military folks can answer. 1. Why did they use the white dress for the trip to Cuba and the Blues for court. 2. Also I noticed Cruise and Pollak wore their "whites" in Cuba but Moore didn't. What are the rules for these kind of thing?

I never knew, or forgot, that Tom Cruise was the son of a former Attorney General, revealed in this scene. Knowing that, I would think that Col. Jessup would have been somewhat deferential to him.
@florinivan6907

On the other hand what are the odds that our protagonist is not only a guy that looks like Cruise but also the son of a former Attorney General? They couldn't have him be a regular Navy lawyer.

I wonder did the writers of Jurassic World rip off some of the dialogue of this scene with the initial dialogue between Claire and Owen. Even the situations had quite subtle similarities.
