Ah sounds soooo good, it calms my inner being. Definitely have to get something from jv-series just for the pads..this is like the soul of the most beautiful moments of the 90s but in hi-def..
Thanks once again for another great video, really informative if you're interested in the JV but as always your playing is great & inspiring. These these pad sounds are in the xv5080 as well.
For all you video game nerds out there, 1:33 is the same preset "Space Station" from the TimeSplitters 2 soundtrack was written with (for its main synth chords).
Awesome pads; I could spend hours playing only these sounds... Some time ago, I was ready to obtain the Integra7, but I still want to check myself some older racks, like XV5080, or the JV-2080 that you present here. Many thanks for the nice demo; apart from the beautiful music, it's really helpful on getting a first glimpse of the rack.
R. M Thank you for the comment! Yes, by the time I wrote that comment, I was searching to get a Roland module and after testing some, I felt that some older gears have a warm character that we don’t find in the new ones. To make it short, I am now a happy owner of a full expanded JV-1080 and I still have to replace those capacitors from the expansion cards...
Great sounds! I got the JV-1010 (& D-50 & JV-80). These semi-vintage boxes always come in handy in a synthpop mix ... even if you got a stack of Nord Leads. :-D Thanks! Hardware gives me a feeling that software can not. Music = condensed emotions.
i sold my two integra. And kept my xv-5080 and jv-880. Because of too many reasons that in not satisfied with the integra. Integra is great but not for me. Nice -2080 demo. Im a roland fan from rack to keyboards to stage pianos
Let's not forget that all those extra patches (bank E) can be loaded into JV-1080 or XP-50 60 80 since the synth engine is the same, 3x EFX that 2080 has make difference only in Performance mode ;) ... Thank you for amazing video!
Super - Makes me want to dig out that dusty JV5080 collecting dust in my garage!!! they sound so full and thick, not like the vast majority of samples out there!! Thanks for not compressing/expanding the life out of these videos too!!!
he JV-2080 is super cheap now on the used market, but it still sounds awesome. The XV and Fantom are a bit cleaner, but the JV is still very usable and nice. Even though I have some newer Rolands, I still have lots of go to sounds on them, that I use a lot.
@@doctorsynth1 That's interesting. In Japan, they go for about half of that, and you can easily still pick one up for $250 or so. Could be a money-making opportunity for somebody...
6:25 I used this "Silky Way" patch in my very first track here on RU-vid called "Bootsfahrt auf den Kaager Seen". All the sounds in that track came from a Roland XP-30.
+muzixco Thats quite a subjective question to answer - I have both the Super 1080 and 5080 - they both sound great but the 5080 just takes the clarity test for me!
I find their synths to be the perfect layering sounds in a big mix. Unfortunately I tried the Roland cloud and it sucks and their VSTs use a lot of CPU very likely dude to the programing given others create just as rich sounds without the CPU useage(?). I wish you could just buy them outright without a cloud service as they really are incredibly rich tones. If I had space I'd definitely be getting some of these physical units, but I just want everything on my computer these days.
Im debating wether to get a 1080 or 2080, what do you reckon? Also, how does one go about saving the sounds for each song you are working on...is there a song mode where all the sounds you want to use for will load, and then it is just a matter of setting up the midi channels in your DAW? Maybe its called peformance mode not sure?
@@AnalogFlava Perform mode is indeed the one you need if you want to use the JV2080 in multi-timbral mode and save a performance Patch that contains up to 8 parts.
Man, when you make these reviews "I need it" is my first thinking, hahahaha. It's important to say that JV2080 have 8 SRJV expansion slots but you need to be wise in the choice of the expansions to avoid the redundancy not just between the boards and the module but between the boards itself too. I remember when i had 2 or 3 times the Lead of Lucky Man in the same Roland synth
I was about to go get a JD-08 - How can this compare to the real modules? Are people deaf or maybe I’m imagining? Whatever it is I’m going only vintage (aka original)
LOL! To see this being used in 2016! This video inspired me to dust mine off, explore and create some sounds for the next album. There are some horrors in there, that were awful even a decade back but the synthesis could get super interesting, specially with FM, and with some twiddling the old 2080 can actually support MPE over an octave! …and be the background to any early X-Files episode.
+PopsGribs There are many waveforms that are similar and definitely "Roland-sounding", but the Jupiter-80 and Integra are newer and have a much "better" (more "hi-fi", pristine, clean) sound compared to the older JV/XP technology. I posted a video of Jupiter-80 pads if you're interested.
Lindsay Webb Depends on your tastes in sound... Personally I prefer early 00's gear for the most part.. .The DACs are not as noisy as the 80's-90's ones, but are not as sterile as the ones used today...
Me personally? The D-50, because of nostalgic reasons (it was the first "pro" synth I bought back in the day). But from a technical standpoint, the JV-2080 is vastly superior
