Hey I think it's great to be able to observe and appreciate these amazing creatures from a safe position..lol I saw a kid in Sydney on RU-vid handling a Sydney Funnel web, makes me appreciate Dave's knowledge, experience and respect for them, that he doesn't unnecessarily handle or aggravate them, he does have a way with them, this much is clearly evident... Have a great new year my friend
@@daveslittlebeasties I've always heard of how hostile funnel webs were as a child, but to this day I've never seen one. I live in the US, so that explains why, but I never thought to see them on video. So I'll do that right now.
this video triggers a memory - one hot summer day, I had a fan pointed at me on the highest setting... I was playing a rpg video game where you fight spiders... right as a spider jump-attacked on screen, I suddenly saw a real life spider flying directly towards my face! the explanation is that a spider had been descending a web strand from the ceiling, which happened to pass in front of the fan... it blew the spider at my face, while tethered by the web... I'll never forget such a creepy coincidence lol
I'm glad you find wolf spiders so fascinating. As someone who works on old cars I find them far less so. I can't tell you how many I've hit with brake parts cleaner. I've encountered a couple I heard moving before I saw them. Nothing freaks you out quite like one of these fast and sassy buggers coming for your face while up under a car. Whole lot of nope from me sir.
I would give the car a good blowing out with the air hose before starting work. It might reduce facial encounters of the worst kind with your unwelcome guests.
I live in North Carolina and My first few spiders I kept were the Carolina Wolf spider. I HIGHLY recommend putting her into a larger enclosure with more substrate. Most of mine live in 2.5 gallon tanks with a generous amount of soil. This is because they burrow underground and even actively hunt so most of them will utilize the full tank. They’re so much fun to own and watch. Thank you for coming to my ted talk.
I hate spiders. Why am I watching this? Why did I subscribe? Why can’t I stop watching it? They’re hypnotic. And that first one is beautiful. Terrifying and beautiful.
It's apt! wild H. carolinensis are not exactly rare near where I live, I can find them if I look - and yeah, they're quick blighters, especially for their size.
Wolf spiders carrying their babies can give you a good scare if you don't realize they're doing it. Once had one crawling along my floor and not wanting to step on it I nudged it with my foot so that it would move out of my way, didn't notice the babies until a number of them decided to hitch a ride on my sock.
SO TRUE!!!!!! 😂😂😂😂 I was walking to the park with my daughter and dog one evening and my dog noticed it first.. but I thought "What a strange bug that is!" So I went for a closer look and saw things crawling on the ground around it, and it finally dawned on me what I was seeing!! 😬 I managed to get an awesome picture! Since it was dark out, I put on the flash for my camera, and the eyes of all the babies on her back lit up like Christmas lights!
i realy dont like spiders, but the way he get´s excited , get´s me excited 0:19 Edit: so i finished the whole video and i have to say, i stay with my statement, i am not a fan of arachnids, but i am a fan of people who share their enthusiasm and knowledge.
I have a problem where I'm both amazed and fascinated by spiders, but also deathly afraid of them. your content not only allows me to learn and enjoy that process of learning, but also allows me to not need to worry about creepy crawlies getting loose in my house, love the content man!
While the thought of Spiders disturbs some people, think how absolutely terrified these creatures are of us. Cases of spider bites are the arachnid using self defence in a life or death situation. They are much maligned and needlessly so.
Japanese funnel web be very very careful its venom is just behind or on par with antraxformidevalis. The blue mountain funnel web fast fatal knock down not good! Anti venom you might want think about that one!..nice spider's!
I only keep non-venomous bugs because I'm not sure I could sleep at night wondering if anyone has found their way out of their enclosure. I love your passion for these impressive spiders. People like you really help others like me appreciate creatures like these, even if we don't necessarily intend on keeping them first hand. Great video.
I don't "keep" spiders--don't like them, really. I did have a spider living in my bathroom a few years ago. It spun a tunnel type web in the corner by the trash can (I called it a wolf spider, but could be wrong--this is in Ohio, USA). I began to worry whether it was getting enough food there in its corner, so when I was able to swat a fly without killing it, I would throw the unconscious fly toward the web opening. That spider would be out of the hole, grab the fly & back in the hole in a blink. I had so much fun with that, until it moved on, so I see the attraction. Still don't care for them though!
Usually, spider keepers are the younger population. I remember wanting to have a spider while still living at home, and though my mom was cool with it, my grandfather said no way.. And here we have an older gentleman, quite similar to my grandfather as well, being an absolute badass with his freaky little buggers. And that's what I love about this channel!
@@russellbagnall5577 It definitely isn't, but that doesn't seem to be the thing that turns most people off from arachnids in general, as you often hear things like "Ew, too many legs/eyes". Though it is probably an evolutionary by-product that these things make people nervous in order to avoid damage from them in general, I find it irritating that people's main concern is how arachnids look more than anything else, at least on the surface.
"insanely fahst." "...so we don't end up with her running around the room." Oh, yes. Do rely on that little lip around the rim. And now, let's just give it poke.... I came here because I'm terrified of spiders. I left here still terrified of spiders.
18:42 those fangs!!! OMG! 19:02 "No worries." I'm with the camera lady! Great job filming! I really enjoy watching this man. He is so gentle, respectful and so knowledgable. Thumbs up.
Jesus..! I was getting accustomed to the other spiders in the channel and at the end they kinda look like some puffy balls of fur with wonderful colors. But this one! This one has some real evil look on him! Really scary. Great video as always, both very entertaining to watch and informative!
Literally 😂 It's like my back shed. It has no padlock cause if someone goes into it at night or even during the day. They won't be coming out very happy. There's a massive red back nest right where you have to walk through 😂
Im from New Zealand and I have never heard of that spider before.. Had to look it up. I can appreciate gorgeous spiders when they are far away from me, so thats why I am really enjoying your channel.
I want to tell you that Macrothele gigas in Japan is different from Macrothele gigas in Taiwan! Taiwan’s Macrothele gigas are bigger than Japan’s! You can buy Taiwan’s Macrothele gigas! It’s amazing!! Giant Taiwan Funnel Web can grow to 15 cm!
“They’re insanely fast so we’re not gonna take any chances.” Proceeds to wave his hand repeatedly in front of the spider. I need a drink of something strong. Thank you RU-vid for not recommending this to me at night time.
I have 2 now...My male had a short life after mating, she decided she didn't want his love anymore, so she ate him. I was bummed cause I really was hoping they would breed well. But I don't think he had time...she is a fast and furious grumpy ole gal.
In my state we have Tigrosa aspersa, they're only slightly smaller than the Carolina, and honestly I think they're more beautiful. I have a lot of black crickets in my basement, and I also have a large Tigrosa aspersa living down there. You can hear her scurry on the cement floor
I love to see spiders...on Video...in another Country...best on another Continent or Planet. They scare the shit out of me but i know how important they are for the Nature. Respekt how calm you act with them.
If things go wrong you need to be able to deal with them sensibly. Spider escaped! Get the machine gun. Just kidding. They really are fascinating creatures. I have nothing but respect for them and am the catch them inside and release them outside guy. No smashing allowed.
I’ve been slowly building up my fear tolerance of spiders by watching videos about them for about a year or so.. enough to where I can tolerate a lot. Example: Jumping spiders are cute, black widows are actually pretty docile, but this channel deals with “experienced spiders” SO WHY OH WHY DO I KEEP WATCHING THIS CHANNELS VIDS!!
Heya Elliot - my wife did similar. She ended up falling in love with Tarantulas, the fluffier the better. Try and find a pic of a Tarantulas “paw” - with the claws retracted they’re fluffy and round and adorable :D
I adore how excited you are at every single spider. If everybody had something in their life that made them this happy, the world would be a better place.
I remember a time a couple years ago when someone at a pet store was trying to sell me a tarantula. I said there is no way in hell I would own something like that. I've hated spiders ever since I was bit by a Brown Recluse. Fast forward to when I thought I had a black widow on my hand (turned out to be a false widow) and a co-worker giving me a pamphlet on spiders in my state, I ended up getting an Arizona Blonde tarantula, then a Green Bottle Blue....a year later I have 20 different tarantulas. They really are fascinating little beasties.
Hey Dave! I'm from New Zealand, I have been following your channel for the last two months or so and I have just come across this video I was ecstatic when you introduced my favorite species the Tunnel Web spider as they are the closest thing we have to a tarantula! I have been wanting to find one and house for my own. Would love to see you do a rehouse on her or an update! Also Would you be able to get our endangered/deadly spider the Katipo in the hobby where you are? Thanks for all the fantastic videos, very much enjoyed from New Zealand!
@@daveslittlebeasties Aww bugger, that's a shame, you will have to get another one! New Zealand isn't known for it's spiders so no worries lol. The Latrodectus Katipo is one of our native spiders, only small looks like a Black Widow or a Red Back spider but they are the only poisonous animal we have here! Thank you for the reply, made my day! not the spider dying but the reply from a loved channel!
I’m watching these videos because spider season is here in the UK when we find them looking for mates in our houses, I’m absolutely terrified of them, thought these videos might help, but knowing people keep such dangerous spiders funnily enough hasn’t helped!😅
