Mattymuc, a user on A1k.org, has created the Freeway Pro card for the Amiga. This adds USB and flashrom and is relatively affordable. I check out the card's capabilities and see if I can use it to solve some of the issues I've been having with one of my machines.

The main reason the Deneb was faster wasn't because of DMA (though that helped), it was because it was a Zorro 3 device, whereas this is Zorro 2. Even with DMA turned off, the Deneb would smoke this device. The real big advantage of DMA on the Deneb was drastically lower CPU usage. A PIO-based Zorro 3 USB card, like the X-Surf-100 with the RapidRoad expansion, or eventually the ZZ9000 with better firmware, will give you much, much faster speeds.

Yes, you're right - good point.

I've got one of these!! One of the A1K guys sold it to me. Great vid Wrangler. Perhaps try one of the TF4060 cards when Stephen releases them? That Apollo sounds a royal PITA.

Thanks. Yes, I'm really hoping to get a TF4060 when they're ready

8:58 The ROM is addressed 32bit wide (each ROM 16bits in 16bit mode), thus A0 of each ROM is connected to A2 line already. This means A0 of the SCSI chip (which was connected to A1 line) is switched to A2 which means the SCSI chip now also is addressed 32bit wide instead of 16bit wide. I guess this accelerator is not able to translate the 32bit wide addressing of a 68040/060 to 16bit odd addresses of the SCSI chip. This implies the SW for the SCSI chip, the scsi.device, also needs to be fixed to use the changed addressing. Thus you are limited to a Kickstart version the SW knows to be able to fix the scsi.device. 11:18 I would assume, the system is waiting for devices to answer. As the SCSI controller is not working, there are no devices answering. Only after the Apollo accelerator did patch the driver and a reset happened, the system finally is able to boot.

How have I only just seen this? :) I love these, mine is probably the most cost effective upgrade I've done and support for memory sticks alone is mind-blowing, let alone things like ethernet and input devices. BTW, the delay on Apollo boot is likely the SCSI timeout - my Apollo 2030 does the same unless I turn SCSI off.

Yeah, the Freeway Pro is a great card. Thanks for the tip on Apollo boot time - I'll have to look into that as I thought I'd disabled SCSI on it.

The Deneb is indeed a fine card with a big flash,(i have one)wish i had bought more back then! Its a shame he never did another production run of them. The Freeway looks like a decent card. If it matches the Algor pro it should be pretty good.

I'm certainly very happy with the Freeway Pro. The Deneb is a lovely card (I have one!) but the Freeway actually does most stuff you'd want.

I see Alinea Computer's have secured the rights to the Subway USB adaptor from Michael Böhmer, however it seems he's disabled Poseidon compatibility in the 2021 version in favour of ANAIIS, possibly due to licensing issues. Since he has done some work to make a newer version of Subway USB, I guess that at least offers a small glimmer of hope for a new Deneb production run sometime in the future.

@@uberdude2555 that would be nice, i am surprised the entire Amiga community doesn't get behind this to encourage him to make more.

Nice card. Too bad the USB Audio isn't supported. Since you have a Mediator a Spider may be a better bet, you can get much faster speeds with it, unless you really need the flash, but you could always put in 3.2 roms....unless the Apollo doesn't work with 3.2. I don't know.

The flashrom was the key thing for me to try to get the Apollo to be more usable.
