This is a great idea. The only problem is that people may do their shopping at the beginning of the month. People may have worked out a ride system among friends and family. They don't want to become dependent on a bus that may not be there next year. It's a reality.
@zoeh3916

That's very true, I think that bus may be more of an option to fall back onto more than a regular thing. It seems like a valuable community resource :)

I admire just how much this bus driver cares for the people he serves. ❤ He seems to understand empathy on a deep level. He isn't sympathetic; he doesn't feel 'sorry' for them. (They don't need that.) This feels more like he's been in their same shoes. Or maybe someone made an impact on him when he was a little boy; so his heart is totally, 100% in! And for all the right reasons. God bless him. ❤

They should add some runs at different times to food pantries. Especially the mid to the end of the month. Another could be various pharmacies. Maybe even a farmers market. Did you know that if you have food stamps you can double them at a farmers market. So instead of $20 you get $40.

because you would still only have the same tiny percentage of people with any motivation to use them. The people remaining in these neighborhoods need the food brought to their homes free-of-charge, taken into their house, cut up into small bites and actually placed right into their mouths, and they still might not swallow it on their own.

Part of the problem here has got to be the population density. Look how spread out everything is. If you're not growing food, you don't need to live on a big lot. If these people lived in denser neighbourhoods the grocery stores would have a larger customer base and people could walk to buy groceries. The America suburb is a failure that keeps people locked in poverty- gotta have a car. Educate people on how to use the land they're surrounded by. Let's feed ourselves again.

I think that's awesome that they are trying to help people access fresh food. But I have so many questions seeing that the shuttle isn't working. Like, is the shuttle free? How long on average does it take to get to the markets? Is it easy to actually get to the shuttle or do people have to transfer to get to get to the shuttle or do most people walk to get to the bus? I think they should do a door-to-door survey and see what's up and make the necessary adjustments.

Systemic racism. This is all over the country. Middle class and affluent communities are thriving with health food/grocery stores, farmer’s markets with little fast food & liquor stores. Meanwhile, lower income communities have a corner store on every other corner, 1 grocery store that’s about 45 minutes- 1 hour away on the bus, and a plethora of fast food eateries. If you don’t have access to quality foods, your quality of health is affected which ultimately affects your quality of life (mind,body & spirit). Don’t think for a second that the people at the top are not aware of this.
@kelleyannethomas5372
@kelleyannethomas5372 4 года назад
Then isn't this all the more reason for low income communities to take advantage of a bus service like this? So how come they don't utilize this service? Do they WANT to eat junk food? Gee, I wish that there was a bus like this where I live! I have to order groceries via apps & do you know how expensive that is? ☹ If this bus was in my neighborhood, I would be on it EVERY weekend!

This is why UBI (universal basic income) is so needed in this country. We are ther richest nation but people are forced to live in areas with poor water, limited access to healthy food, and little to make a way out of a bad situation. I do think lack of mobility is what locks poverty in. They have obtained the subsidized housing and allowances, but it’s all local, there is no incentive to move anywhere else to find a job, because it takes forever to get housing like that, to move is not worth the risk but at the same time, you can’t expect the jobs to come to you. When you have a declining area, the only people who stay are the poor, which accelerates the demographic fall. Same with the banlieus in France, they live in generational poverty because they have secured housing which is difficult to obtain. Unlike regular job seekers who can move where the jobs are.
