Some of the comments on here are disgusting its not like she isn't trying, it's like yall think being on foodstamps is a choice and that it is so great. When you have 4 kids plus two adults to feed it really doesn't go that far... this woman lost her job so she was clearly working and I'm guessing losing her job wasn't by choice but at the end of the day she still has babies to feed and THATS what foodstamps are there for, to help those who NEED it... like this family does! Unless you've been in this situation you have no idea how much it sucks and how much of a failure you feel like at times depending on the government to feed your family, it can he degrading especially for women when it's our job to take care of our kids and we feel like we're failing by not being able to provide like we want to.... this isn't a life style choice, its a means of survival. Humble yourselves, you'll be much happier!
I rather go to a food pantry then to rely on the government for food stamps. I don't make much and only work weekends. My mom suggested me to get food stamps because I spend half of my check on buying food and I mostly buy fruits, vegetables that goes bad in a week and I buy salmon and walnuts. I can't wait to find a way to move out and live off grid and have a huge garden.
Yeah but as a cashier and someone who has had food stamps I can tell you a majority of people spend their food stamps on junk which is why we need to take Doritos, candy, energy drinks, cakes, soda all of that off the list of things people should get. Cause if you’re really hungry and starving for good health and nutrition then you should be making your food from scratch . Buying flour in bulk, produce on sale , stuff like that and making sure your cupboards aren’t an open buffet if you’re family is really starving. Also there are a lot of community dinners, that people assume are just for homeless people but again they are community dinners. Also food banks always nearby and a lot will help in emergencies. Thirsty? Find a library they usually have fountains. If this was a 1930 depression people wouldn’t know how to handle themselves and that saddens me. I’ve watched how Americans shop on food stamps and then I’ve watched Indians(from India) and Hispanic buy food. Trust me when I say people who immigrate here know how to shop to maximize what they get cause they are doing it the right way. The food stamp is a trap when you think you can depend on it for the rest of your life. It’s only there to help temporarily. That’s why when you report your earnings they adjust how much food money they’ll give you. Personally I think they could do better on that figuring not everyone could save to move and feed their family at once maybe they should allow 2-3 months for earning more before they adjust it so it gives people a chance to get off the system better since nothing is being solved now. At the end of the day though there is no excuse for starving in America especially democrat cities where there are all these resources.

Yeah, all developed countries have that except the US. Obviously there is poverty in every country but ie here in Austria being poor doesn’t mean you have to worry about food or rent. You just simply belong to the lowest 10% according to wealth. If you don’t have a job, you get money from the government (about a 1000$ + 250$ per child, you get paid your rent as long as you try to get a new job or further education, education is free in general, food laws here are way stricter than in the US and therefore Food is also healthier. It’s like that in every single developed country, just not the US.
@@sophieblabla4888 healthy food is not hard to get in the US, its not a luxury either. It just takes some simple research. And education isnt free by any means. Public education is funded through tax dollars that the government takes from people who have jobs. Thats why public education is so bad, because the government controls the spending. Being poor in America means you have to worry about food and rent, thats why they have welfare programs (also funded by tax payers). When you have kids & you’re a single parent or unmarried living separately it’s hard to maintain a job. It’s not that you don’t want one, it’s just that you know your attendance might make you lose your job anyway. The only job that lines up with a child’s schedule is a school teacher. My mom is a single mom with seven children and a $20,000 yearly budget. We own our house, fortunately, but she's too proud to use food stamps so our pantry is typically composed of cereal and rice.
barley is cheaper and healthier than rice. Beans and oats are cheaper and healthier than cereal. Eggs, apples, frozen kale, canned tomatoes, canned tuna and salmon are cheap and fairly healthy When I'm broke I make crabby patties: 2 cans of salmon ($0.88 each) 1 can of crushed tomatoes ($1.00) half a chopped onion ($0.85) 1 egg: $0.33 leftover bread crumbs ($0.00) a bit of grated cheese ($0.60) olive or peanut oil ($0.60) greens: ($3.00) mix in bowl, and turn into patties, put on grill, cook for 5 minutes each side and put over bed of greens done. This feeds 4 people, for l$1.81 a serving (and I probably overestimated the costs.) For 8 people that would be $14.52 a meal. I can see how that adds up, but it has a lot more nutrition value than processed breakfast cereals and rice all the time and when one has 7 children, one has to expect a higher grocery bill. I buy whole chickens, and I get 5 meals out of it, roast chicken potatoes and salad, chicken salad, a chicken stir fry, then take all the bones and skn and make bone broth, make chicken soup, and then make rissotto. $9 for a chicken, plus some greens, vegetables, noodles, rice etc, and you have some great meals for on the cheap. :) Let's say you have 3 chickens for 8 people. 3 chickens- $27 1 lb of potaotes: $4.00 3 heads of spinach: $7 (for salads) 5 chopped of tomatoes: $5 (for salads) 2 large bag of frozen vegetables for soup, stirfry, and risotto: $12 spices: $2 2 packs noodles for soup and stirfry: $8 salad dressing: $0.85 rice: 2.00 That's $13.37 per meal to feed 8 people healthy balanced meals. That's not bad

You really can feed a family on a $760 / month FS budget. But you have to plan carefully. I have 5 adults in my family and I spend less than that for a whole month. We eat very well. You have to make everything from scratch. And you can't waste a single penny on snacks or chips, or prepared foods or soda. You drink lots of water, which is better for you anyway. You eat oatmeal for breakfast. And you eat tons of eggs, beans and rice. Fruit is always the cheapest that is in season. The truth is that people today DO NOT know what it means to make everything from scratch. They think that means hamburger helper or Marie C. Frozen entrees. You have to do mainly once-a-month shopping except for milk and bread. And you don't deviate from the plan, unless you get something free or next to free.

+Jasmine Singleton Then why didn't she mentioned any of that? So from this angle, it looks like she was irresponsible and the tqxpayers are footing the bill.
+Mary Therese McCool You can grow vegies in your house as well. Seeds are only like 50 cents for a whole bunch of them. I grow a ton of vegies next to my windows, it makes a nice addition to what you need to buy in the supermarket.
+Geen naam Even growing your own veggies adds up tho. You need pots, potting soil, fertilizer, and they need to be water at least every other day. I know this from personal experience and growing your own can still be very expensive.
I grew up very poor, the closest supermarket to us was a 30 min drive. We grew up with eggs and beans for brekfast and chicken, rice and beans for lunch and dinner. we didnt get food stamps, a few hundred in food stamps would have gone a long way for us.
$726 a month? Damn, my family could stretch that dollar to last for months and still eat well. The trick is to learn to cook and buy ingredients, never junk food.
Exactly. And she has 4 kids, not 4 grown men to feed. She's buying tiny yogurt packages with M'n'Ms, c'mon. One of those costs as much as a big package of plain yogurt.
Fla Boi easy. Certian food items are inexpensive. Rice. Beans. Spagheti. Chicken to name a few. Back in my broke college days my boyfriend and I use to do weekly grocery for 40 dollars a week at aldi. A dozen eggs were 70 cents. . 5 pounds of potatoes for 2 99.
I know things have changed a lot in the last 5 years, but the process is the same. Meal planning. Pick 14 meals your family likes and rotate them every 2 weeks. This way you can plan ahead and always have the ingredients you need. Anything else like snacks are able to be changed according to what fruits and treats are in season or on sale. The key is you have to stop buying convenience foods and cook from scratch. If you are home and not working anyway why can't you do that? Your family may bulk at first, but eventually will come to love it and will be full longer. And healthier. I'm sure school age children of families who get food stamps get free breakfasts and lunches at school so the majority of their food stamps will be spent on dinner, snacks and weekend meals. It is so much easier now to find ways to make your budget work like this by watching youtube videos of people who really have done this. This woman has some great ideas and can help people with a small food budget. She has regular meal plans and recipes and also some for if your budget is running out. If you receive $700 a month for 5 people there is no reason for your children to be hungry. And you do not need to feed them a bunch of starchy, processed, convenience foods. Even people without food stamps can learn a lot to make their food budget work for their family. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-7TrTsRoyH_A.html
Only people that get snap will understand another person getting snap. Its hard for a person to Survive. People that received that help don't complain about but it very Difficult to survive with that help.
Sad and where is the father, does she get child support. She needs to learn how to stretch the food like make soups that will last forever that you can freeze and re-eat later.
So true we live off of 150.00 a month for three people we make it work for a month with one person working and no food stamps ! They need to learn how to stretch their food ! Like we do or send that man or woman to work and stop having all these babies !
Who gets to pay for that genius? You pay and we will watch you go bankrupt. Her entire life is NOW paid for by those of us who work: Medicaid, Section 8, food stamps, WIC. You drank ALL that Kool-Ade, life coach?
My wife works at a supermarket as a second job and sees individuals with food stamps buying cookies cake soda and chips. Food stamps cover fruit and veggies and meat and eggs. The weight issue is not the food stamps it's a lifestyle and choices. Aldi is super cheap place to get veggies or shop the sales
People are allowed to eat what they want. And honestly it's moreso the lax food rules we have in america. Everything is pumped with preservatives and absolute bullshit. If you compare the same food from america vs other countries its astounding what companies are allowed to get away with.
@@LoreEclectic preservatives on fruit and veggies are still better than cookies soda and chips, which are more expensive in the long run. Your comment makes no sense why are you bringing up other countries? But since you bring it up Americans are obese because of the food choices they make, they prefer eating out and huge portions than a nutritious meal at home.
@@queenminaj901 Actually, studies show that there has been an increase in desire to eat healthy and yet less healthy eating. That just shows that there is a discrepancy in which healthy food is inaccessible. It's not that we're making bad choices, it's that we *have* bad choices. Especially when you're in a situation in which you are in poverty buying food that has a longer shelf life is imperative for your survival. But our food is often shipped across the whole country leaving fruits and veggies with only a few days of shelf life left. There have been multiple times where I went to buy berries from the store only to find that basically all of them have mold. Plus there are places that are food deserts where it would take an hour to get to a small corner store with a small selection and an hour back. Plus there is so much misinformation that we're fed about food with dad diets shoved down ppls throats. We don't even have home ec in school anymore so people are even less prepared
No it isn't. Having a kid is expensive. If you really can't afford it, don't get kids. Is it fair for a child to grow up without their parrents having money for them? They can't even afford to feed them. It's not about them, it's about the kids. If you don't have any money. Wait with having kids.
First of all nobody was talking to you .. Jus because she can't afford kids doesn't mean she can't have them.. You don't know what could have happened .. She could have gotten raped.. And fyi it was rude the way they commented .. If they had something rude to say they shouldn't have said it.. Cos probably 99.9 % of the people that say rude or mean things online aren't gonna say it to that persons face .. Sooo.. Come correct when you coming for me..😂😂
As a resident of CT who also receives food stamps, I sympathize with her. I work full time and I still can't afford to buy groceries. I don't have kids to support but I have bills that have to come first. It's awful to say that I have to put a human necessity last in order to pay rent, car, cell phone, insurance etc. I don't have help other than SNAP. It angers me when I see people saying that we should get a government mandated "box of food" per month, it upsets me when cashiers see my EBT card and give me the look that us food stamp receivers know oh so well. The "you're using tax payer money" argument is invalid because I too pay taxes lol. I pay them every single week. Living in this state is rough and it's expensive. The fact that full time money can't sustain people is ludicrous. People judge without knowing the circumstance. Keep pushing girl, you'll make it. ♡
I work full time and live extremely frugally but have never taken a single government benefit. Think about what those cashiers feel in anger when you come in and pay for something with THEIR tax money. Heres an idea, work harder? Get a new job?
Kylea Michele ok.... that’s you though and a low percentage , do you know how many people there are that won’t get a job and just have kids to get food stamps then half the time sell them?
As a resident of the same state. When I worked retail. I cashed people out on EBT who bought candy and energy drinks. Those aren't needed. I also cashed people out who bought a soda on EBT then SOMEHOW took cash out on the EBT card like a debit card and bought cigarettes. I don't think that EVERYONE who gets help is like that but I feel like there should be some way to prevent that.
Gavin Lee A phone is a necessity if that’s the only means of communication between yourself and your job, as well if you have an emergency. Healthcare insurance is a necessity if you have medical problems in order to treat your medical problems and you’re required by law to have your own healthcare policy or your employer has to offer it to you and car insurance is a necessity if you need a car in order to drive to work as most states require you to carry at least liability insurance on a vehicle in order to operate it. Do you live in your Mom’s basement? Because you obviously have no real concept of what things cost and what’s required by law. Quit belittling her for only using SNAP at least she does have a job and works and doesn’t sit on her ass.
I remember being a teenager and babysitting for a neighbor that had 5 kids all around the age 6 and under the mother was about 25ish, she apparently got $600 in food stamps and sold more than half for new clothes for herself and so on.. it disgusted me, especially when I would feed the kids at my house and they'd ask for more because they were hungry... Heck the 5 year old said his mom doesn't want them to eat too much or they'll get fat...
'i look for fruits and vegetables that look like they might last longer" My mom told me you don't want the bananas that are gonna be yellow and big you want the smaller ones that are green
I was on food stamps for 6 months , I didn’t have a job , until I got a job I repirted my income and lasted on food stamps for 6 months and saved enough to move in with my sister and brother , Im glad they have these assistance because I was grateful they helped me out, im thankful now I can afford my own food and place
It just broke my heart when she said it's her own fault. She deserves better from our society, especially being a former teacher's aide. Teachers and farmworkers are the most underappreciated people in this country, in my opinion.
No, she deserves better from the powers that be who ship our jobs to foreign countries and hire illegals and she deserves better from the children's father or fathers seeing as how they helped her bring those children here. We the taxpayers don't owe her or her children anything. We do enough: we pay for WIC, housing, food stamps, child care, education, free/reduced lunches, after school programs, etc....what more do you think the taxpayers should be responsible for? You must be out your damn mind.
I was so glad to hear her say that. She's not a victim and that is refreshing to hear especially when many people in these situations blame everyone but themselves. She may eventually get ahead just cause she knows that it is up to her.
@@1818dedee Then get another and it is her fault she lost her job. And I can't lose my job, unless I kill someone, then I could apply somewhere else. Which is why in the ideal world, people should wait until they have a stable job like being a doctor.
Could they maybe have some classes to TEACH women to cook. That was my issue, i was raised on the same crap she buys...its worthless. I didn't know how to actually cook. My older neighbor (bless her soul) helped me learn to cook with ingredients rather than processed EVERYTHING. It does take more time but you can cook in bulk and put some in the freezer for another meal later. I ended up NOT needing food stamps once i REALLY learned how to cook. Its cheaper...healthier and a better way to feed your family.
I absolutely agree. They should have mandatory home economic classes in high school. I was never taught how to cook healthy or run a home or stuff like that, was taught a bit of budgeting in math class, but i think there are many people who grow up in families like that as well who would benefit from learning it in school.
I hate going shopping on Food Stamp day lol you see all the big mama's with carts full of junk food and I have a cart with Bread, Eggs and milk 🤦🏽 I want cookies I want junk too but I have to actually use my hard earned cash to pay for my groceries. Also I grew up eating the white label foods with the black writing. I grew up on asking mom for a dollar and her ripping out a brown dollar from her foodstamp book. The difference is my mom didn't buy a cart full of junk food to feed us 5 kids lol. (I know this lady is buying healthy and I commend her for that but go to walmart on a food stamp day and see big mama's carts)
I was in the same situation with only 1 kid. And I spent the money to take a cab to the closest Aldi……. Where there’s a will there’s a way… having a husband is pretty necessary.. and I’m glad God blessed me with one…
Negative it doesn’t fill u up it’s a good snack I eat them all the time and they are mad expensive .... damn I wish I got that much money a month for groceries I swear.
True, Genesis. You could buy at least 2 pounds of store brand cheese for the price of that. Just cut a few slices for each person. Plus she was letting the kids pick out those individual cereal cups. Buy the cheapest oatmeal and fix that for breakfast. Or buy some flour and make pancakes for pennies each.
I have no issues feeding someone. I believe it's our job in a society to take care of one another. This means, on a basic level, that everyone should have access to food and water. I will gladly support tax dollars finding these campaigns...however, i personally know those who intentionally leech off the backs of society. My feeling is, as long as you are working, disabled, or are on unemployment you should receive benefits. There's no shame in working a minimum wage job. Too many think this is beneath them.
+Galaxy Rhen I get food stamps, am disabled and can't work and what makes me so mad is when people gripe and moan about people getting benefits when they should not and then these people turn around and talk about a person they know who is doing just that. Too many people are talking about people they know dishonestly getting benefits and what they should be doing is reporting them and keep making a fuss until something is done about that person.
***** The person I'm referring to receives benefits for claiming she can't read or write. That would be my word against hers. This lady is not a relative, but what if she was? Would I turn her in if she was say, my own mother? Relatives and close friends are usually the ones close enough to see behind their deceptions. I wouldn't ask families to turn in their own members.
Galaxy Rhen Wrongly getting benefits is stealing and fraud. If you had definite evidence that someone from among your relatives stole property from another person I'm sure you would turn them it. This is the same thing. Of course, I was talking about when you have definite proof. I was not talking about people using their own guidelines, rather than the governments/state as to who is worthy to get benefits or who do not have definite proof turning people in. That is not right.
+jfsfrnd This is what she told me she receives. She refers to it as her "nut check" so I'm assuming it's considered a mental disability. Also, she's been on the program for many, many years. Perhaps the rules are different now than at the time.
+jfsfrnd Regardless, she is fine, and even openly admits to cheating the system. My point still stands. Even further, my observations only solidify my second point which is it is my word against hers and the "doctor" who originally saw her. Therefore, there's nothing that I can do. It was up to the doctor who originally fell for her BS in the first place. Now, to my first point. She is a proud societal leech. She spends her day watching Jerry Springer and robbing families of our local foodbank's resources. We are paying for her to do so. If you're okay with that, so be it. I am not.
What I see in common in all these stories is the lack of a father doing his share in being responsible for their kids financially. We have one of those in our family who has never financially supported his daughter and thinks he is a great dad because he takes her to the park a few times a year.
Some of the comments on here are absolutely ridiculous and completely hateful towards that wonderful mom. I am a single mom to three children I was married to my husband before he decided to up and leave I get no help and I rely on no one but myself. And I now have to rely on food stamps to feed myself and my children. And I have to be very frugal to make sure the bills stay within my income. I am doing what I can being a single mom it's not my fault my kid's Dad decided to up and leave
I feed my family of four on a budget of $400 a month and we eat well. I was kinda disappointed to see her buying name brand items (Aunt Jemima syrup, yogurt with the candies on top, Babybel cheeses, and name brand formula) instead of store brand which saves a ton of money. Heck, I can't afford those name brand items...and we are a working family.
+Roberto LaCraveon thank you for seeing my point this is ridiculous people use the system every chance they get eating good meal name brand food I'm sitting here trying to stretch a dollar
Its not that I have a problem with her on food stamps is where she says $700 is not enough what is she buying three little ones and myself 450 dollars a month on groceries and we eat very well what is she buying that's $700 it's not enough for groceries damn how much does she want 1000
+Jocelyn Paul $700 for 5 people is actually too much. You can buy organic at Whole Foods with that much and still have money left over, the problem is that people like her don't know how to cook , don't bother learning healthy recipes, because they think that people who do eat healthy and exercise are shallow, so they buy the frozen pizzas and burgers and cry about being obese , while living in this Hollywood mentality, that they will never be given the chance of having. She should have stopped at one child, and gone back to school, to become an actual teacher. Also, these obese women are always getting pregnant by anyone who thinks their cute, what happened to just dating and not opening your damn legs. She obviously had enough to pay a babysitter to have sex. SMH
+jeniece grear "Not judge", people who work hard all damn day have the right to judge, she has 4 kids and has the nerve to complain, had she had some morals and self esteem 1st she wouldn't be obese, second she would respect herself enough to get married or have a career at least. I only feel bad for the kids that didn't ask to be here and will sadly repeat the cycle again and again. I'm tired of people complaining about living in bad neighborhoods, but put themselves in those situations, you want a nice neighborhood with healthy supermarkets and no crime ,than go to college , get a career or get 3 jobs and dont have kids till your stable.
People are so quick to judge. No one ever thinks that this will happen to them, but you never know. You can be put into a situation like this a lot easier than you think.
@@meowhisspurrrscratch6961 oh here you are again spewing hate. Clearly since you are using a throw away account you don’t care about your comments. I hope life smacks you real good in the face child because clearly you have no idea what reality is
She said being a single mother of four kids with a smile, she knows she's strong. She's a beautiful mother... I just hope she is doing well now and that her baby's smiling face has continued to get her through.
I grew up in a household that couldn't afford junk food. Even regular healthy food was hard. It took my mom months of convincing to get me a bag of chips. Later I learned she used to borrow money and stuff. I have mad respect for my mom.
Our local food pantry supports 50 families. If you are in need, reach out for help. There are lots of food pantries, churches, and other organizations that will help.
my best advice for this mother is to stop buying them yogurts and just buy fresh fruit (make smoothies and fruit ice cream and serve) them yougurts and lil bagged and frozen boxed stuff adds uppp! i know! im working with a $60 weekly grocery budget for 2 adults and 2 toddlers no SNAP no WIC No kind of assistance. we work with what we have. buy bulk beans lentils potatoes greens oats rice nuts veggies veggies veggies. avoid canned, bagged, drozen goods.
How the hell she gonna make a smoothie? Blenders are out of the budget I bet. At the age her kids are at, it'll be hard to transition them from sugary, yummy boxed meals to beans and lentils. I'm not saying that the diet is correct, I'm just saying that life is already hard for her -- no need to make things harder.
Jessica Ly Your comment is why I pushed fruit for my daughter before anything else. It's an uphill battle living with others who will give her junk and then that's all she'll want. I'm constantly trying to give her fruits, veggie juice, water, PB&J, oatmeal, potato hash, mushroom tacos, pasta with hidden veggies and more. When I knew my temp job was about to end, I invested in a blender, juicer, spice grinder, spiralizer and hand mixer. It has helped me make healthy cheap meals. I have also introduce more vegan meals because its cheaper, more nutritious and helps with weighy loss. She just needs help being reeducated on food. What to buy and how to cook it.
fucking idiots in the replies. there are plenty of jobs but greedy callous business owners barely pay enough to live off of. most people in the poverty level have to work at least two jobs. slaving away and working hard and still not having enough.
I’m glad she recognizes her choices is what got her and her kids there. She’s doing what she can but at the end of the day don’t have kids if you can’t provide it’s selfish.
@@Nancy-lc8jw The video was uploaded in 2016. She lost her job in 2013. Her youngest infant was 8 months old. Can you do that basic math? She thought it was a genius idea to conceive another child, despite already having to rely on food stamps for two years.
