I've been trying to master English for a while now. After watching your 3 clips, my game has vastly improved. I'm able to put the Cue ball where I want it on the table now to make more shots in a row. Thank you for making it so simple to understand.

Nice. Good enough approximation of high practical value. For pool, where slow cloth is used. In a fast cloth, like the ones used in carom games, the english holds far longer, and you can play draw and follow english at the same speed, with slight different results. Your video is really instructive. Thanks.

3:16 It actually hits the diamond next to it_ regardless of how many times you try If it was a pool table with a length of 10 diamonds each side for example, it would hit that diamond you intended to hit because it would still be along the same side of the pool table

Snooker is always one table size. If you're playing pool, it's better to learn on a bigger table and then go smaller if you choose.

Really great videos series. I use to play really good when I was 18 but I've forgotten everything. I only have one question after these 3 vids. How do you reference if you're off center? Is basically maintaining the diamond refs off-set.

@BrandonBilliardGuy Thanks for the great videos! Question about English. I want to make sure I understand this correctly: It looks like Top and Bottom English behave differently when shooting full-table length. So, Top English subtracts a half of a diamond on both half and full-length table, correct? Bottom English adds half of a diamond on half-length of the table and a full diamond on full-length, correct? So then, I guess, to make it easier to understand for me personally, Top English can be considered "Post-shot" English. That is to say, it is not affected by the doubling mechanics of half and full length table. It is what it is after (post) those mechanics. Whereas Bottom English is "Pre-English," meaning it could be considered before the shot and calculated into the mechanics of doubling of half-length and full-length table. Would this be a proper understanding?

Thanks for the video. It's great and informative. However, how do you compensate when you strike your cue ball with english in order to get your cue ball to hit the object ball where you wanted it to hit?

When you put 1 english in the cueball... is that equivalent to 1 tip of the cuestick from center of cueball. Could you draw a diagram?

Does this system only work if the cue ball starts in the middle of the table (when going side to side). What if the cue ball is closer to the side rail, does this system still work like that?

@CharadeZ13
@CharadeZ13 11 лет назад
question: would these tips work if I was using a 10mm Snooker Cue?? ?
@physicsguybrian
@physicsguybrian 11 лет назад
Gah! All this depends on how hard you hit the cut ball! The harder you hit the more spin you impart AND the more you compress the cushion on impact. In addition, off-center cueing results in deviation of the cue ball off the intended path so one must compensate for that as well. While this instruction may be helpful in a very basic sense, it fails to address all the other variables of cueing with english.

Hello Brandon.. in case of I am playing on a 8ft table, all the diamond and half diamond count on a cue ball it's the same?
@Zombies8MyPizza
@Zombies8MyPizza 5 лет назад
Same regardless of the table size - a shift of 1 diamond is always a change in angle of about 15 degrees.

When I try to hit the cue ball like this, it makes a weird noise and goes the wrong way
@adamduerden1831
@adamduerden1831 7 лет назад
I experienced the same thing when I was learning, you just have to try and make sure that you aren't hitting the cue ball at an angle, just a different point. Make sure that the cue is flat and still pointing in the direction you want it to go. The mistake I was making was that I got ready for the shot in the centre of the ball and then moved the cue from there, this meant I was aiming in a different direction and usually miscuing unless I chalked up then it would swerve a little bit. Also make sure that you have plenty of chalk on your tip.
@Steve01ification
@Steve01ification 7 лет назад
Adam Duerden Thanks for this... Just from practice.. wish I saw this before_ will try it. I think to much about the English and end up missing the shot altogether.

does this rule work only when the cue is at the center of the table?
@medkhalidbellaaguid3165
@medkhalidbellaaguid3165 6 лет назад
Renae Anderson not necessarily. It works as long as you're able to put the cue in the wanted English. It depends if you want the low English or the center English. Sometimes it's impossible to get that. Which leaves only the top English.
