The 2006 Rose Bowl Game, played on January 4, 2006 was a game that served as the BCS National Championship Game for the 2005 NCAA Division I-A football season. It featured the only two unbeaten teams of the season: the defending Rose Bowl champion and reigning Big 12 Conference champion Texas Longhorns played Pacific-10 Conference titleholders and two-time defending AP national champions, the USC Trojans. A total of 79 points would be scored in a game where only 3 points separated the winning side from the losing side at the game's end. The game was a back-and-forth contest; The victory was not secured until the game's final nineteen seconds.
This documentary from the NFL Network features Snoop Dogg, Matthew McConaughey, Vince Young, Matt Leinart, Mack Brown, Pete Carroll, Jeff Fisher, Keith Jackson, Dan Fouts and many, MANY others!

I'm a Husker Fan so i disagree, but i'll say it's the Best College Football Game of the New Millenium....and definitely Top 5 College Game Ever. Just my humble Opinion considering there's about 5 "Game of the Century's" from the prev 100 years and football was in it's infancy in 1900. Southern Cal and Texas Rose Bowl 2006, 1 out of 5 College Games i've watched on TV with Friends and Family where everyone was glued to their Seats watching, cheering, booing, emotions up and down...and none of us were huge TX or USC Fans. What a Game.

Funny how Matt's coach takes some responsibility for his NFL career not working out but Jeff Fischer blames nobody but Vince Young. Knowing how bad of damage Fischer does to QBs and how petty he was being something tells he was part of the problem to.

He just sounds childish, Vince was immature and while it is not the coaches job to mature a player...had he done so I feel we may have seen a completely different trajectory in the NFL from Vince. This game may have had the most “IT” factor out of any other American football game ever played, like this game feels like the climax of a movie anytime you watch it. The crowd The yellow-ish lighting The announcers who were boring but just have that “big game” classy feel to them All the future NFL stars in that game like Vince Young, Reggie Bush, Jamaal Charles, etc. And just how good the game was overall, this game WAS the climax of a movie in every aspect.

If USC woulda lined Bush out wide, that would have taken away a couple crucial numbers for the horns and maybe been enough to get a better push or a bigger whole for white to run thru and we wouldn’t be remembering this game as much as we do. Thankfully tho Pete does what Pete does and makes the wrong choice in a short yard situation.

You didn't have to be a fan of either teams to truly appreciate the magnitude of this game. There were a few times in the 2005 season when it wasn't guaranteed they'd both meet, even though that was the expectation at the conclusion of the 2004 bowl season. Texas visited the #4 team at the time at the Horseshoe and came away in a close 25-22 win, and Vince Young sparked a comeback after falling 28-12 against another OSU team in Bedlam, then you had the Bush Push that saved USC's season, and practically every week every team giving the best against the two time defending AP champion, and defending BCS champion Trojans. Either way considering both teams were the only undefeated teams in 1-A, I think they could have afforded one loss and still faced each other. Regardless, both were undefeated and added to the hype and build up to the game, and gave quite possibly one of the greatest games of all time, regardless the sport. And a fitting end to Keith Jacksons legendary broadcasting career. My generation won't see a game like it again in our lifetimes. Truly a game of the century.

I was 12 or so when this game happened and I remember risking being caught awake well past when I was supposed to be watching it. I was such a USC hater back then - I wanted anybody playing them to beat them. I had no reason to be a hater because my fandom lies with a Big 10 team that has never been a genuine contender for a title for USC winning all the time to truly even matter. So watching possibly the best title game ever and finally seeing them lose made my kid heart happy. Looking back Matt and Vince both kinda got shit hands when they entered the league and weren’t really put in situations where they had a good chance to succeed. That doesn’t mean they would’ve been long term elite level guys if they hadn’t landed as they did but it is fair to recognize that their landing spots, and some terrible luck for Leinart, lowered their odds quite a bit. Young truly got the shaft entering the league going to a team where the coaches didn’t want to draft him and the owner and office forced their hands and Jeff Fishers stubborness about how he handled every aspect of Young rather than doing his best with the direction he’s been given which ensured he would fail. Leinart may have had a chance if the Titans had grabbed him with a coaching staff that wanted him. But going to Arizona and being tossed into the role so soon when that wasn’t the plan and then getting hurt and then the next season with the switching him in and out to not truly have a commitment and security to grow in the role all to be hurt again really tanks his chances too. And then further bad luck that Kurt Warner returned to his top form snd he no longer had a chance for the spot. Both dudes may failed anyways but it’s one thing if you have a genuine chance and fall short compared to not having a true chance and falling short. At least if you had a real chance you can accept that it just didn’t pan out and move on with things compared to how you’d feel if you have a coach who never wanted you and treats you accordingly and forever wondering how it would’ve been if you had a coach who embraced and guided you instead.

Uh... USC was NOT playing for its 'third straight national championship despite the nonstop yammering to that effect. At that time the accepted national champion as supported by the NCAA was the BCS Title Game. In 2004, following the 2003 season, that game was played between LSU and Oklahoma, with LSU winning 21-14. The 'national championship' for that season that is claimed by Southern Cal (I know they hate being called that) was nothing more than the opinion of the AP poll. No amount of repeating that claim ad nauseum will change that simple fact. But we here in flyover country understand. Each year Southern Cal need only to have players with a pulse and respiration to be declared a 'team for the ages', at least until the actual games are played....🤣🤣🤣
