For those who say he was overrated, here's what he has to say about the `doodle` style: "its more important to make a lot of different things and keep coming up with new images and things that were never made before, then to make one thing and do it well. They come up fast but it's a fast world!"
What a beautiful story, tribute to Keith Haring and discerning attempt for integrity by it's present owners. I love the interplay and juxtaposition of the antiquity and restoration comparing and contrasting with the modern art as it is shown here. IMO we must respect the past, history, uniqueness as we embrace the present and future with mindfulness to all. This is a perfect example how this CAN be done. TY everyone involved in this and such undertakings everywhere.
I do not live too far from this area and i am thinking about going to see the space and take some pictures if possible. I don't know if it is available for viewings , but i would like to be in that very room where Keith stood, squatted, and sweat while making this piece. As a teen in the 80's many a times I would b coming home late from school or work and would see Keith doing graffiti in chalk on the blank advertisement spaces. I love Keith Haring.
I never knew him and no- I was even close to as successful as he was. Im glad you two were friends, but Im entitled to my opinion. I cant have an opinion on him as a person, but I can have an opinion on his art, and I think its just doodles.
no, it was not doodles and it's apparent that you wouldn't know art if it came and kicked you in your ass. Keith was an amazing artist that was and still is well respected in the art community. If Andy Warhol endorsed him as he did, then who really cares what you think?
Doodle this j/k. Ok so he's not one of the names most associated with MASTER ARTIST as most consider many but his legacy, contribution and affect on ART HISTORY is undisputable. As seemingly modest, self-effacing and earnest as he was, I think he might be taken back himself to know the regard and respect given by most everyone for his contributions. May he rest in peace with that precious goofy disarming smile.
