I did it! I did It! What fun. Thanks for the video. I've now purchased several of Fabric Cafe's books. I've made six 3-yard-quilts since COVID 19 has us spending more time at home. 😊
I loved this pattern , so I shopped my stash. Cut it out just after lunch yesterday and finished the top br 2 pm this afternoon. It will be sent to Victoria Quilts to be completed and given to a cancer patient. I used a little more than a yard for the main fabrics so I could add larger borders to make it 50" x 70" which they require. Sorry I can't figure out how to add a picture. Love your show
I’ve been purchasing books and fabric from Fabric Cafe for awhile now and absolutely love love the ease of the patterns! Being able to whip up a finished quilt in a day or two is wonderful! Thanks for sharing the free pattern and doing this video. I love all your tips and tricks you share with us!
I've never heard of three yard quilts or Fabric Cafe. I'll definitely check into them. Thank you for demonstrating and sharing this very well made instructional tutorial.
Hi Annie, I hope you'll visit fabriccafe.com and see all the lovely 3-yard quilts you can make. And while there, click on Free Goodies to get a copy of the pattern, Sew Fast, at no charge.
I watch and learn so much from your videos. If I lived in your area, I know I would participate in classes and other events. This also is intended as a thank you for your very clear instructions.
Wow. I love that you can leave the fabrics you hate to cut up. Great pattern for gift giving to a hospice program or nursing home. Great size for over the wheel chair. Thank you!
Thank you for this pattern. I did make it using baby print material and decide to do 2 smaller quilts. Now I am making a black and white quilt using this pattern. Your directions are so clear for me.
What a beautiful quilt. Love the pattern! To me there is an optical illusion where the rectangles even though perfectly measured, the result is they look slightly askew. Love your elegant voice and your instructions are so easy to follow. I put this quilt on my todo list!
First quilter. 60 years old and I'm going to try my best. I've watched many tutorials of which everyone has there own ways of quilting and read many beginner quilting books. So, 3 yards? I think I can do this. I have tons of fresh uncut fabrics that I must use. Thank you.
Just finished this quilt with 3 batik prints. Two of them, I didn’t want to cut as they were just too beautiful to cut into little tiny pieces. Perfect pattern for them. Thank you for the demonstration. Your guidance was very easy to follow and I’m loving the outcome.
Just what I was looking for, easy and fast. Unfortunately, it is not a free pattern anymore, but I did purchase it. A very good pattern. Will try this weekend.
LOVE this...sometimes just the direction list of fabrics, yardage, and cutting directions are very intimidating. Good idea for holiday quilts that you want just to add to a chair, etc. And baby quilts....I am going to look these up. Great tutorial...thank you again! I get so many wonderful ideas from you!
Have 5 of her books as well as many of the single patterns. Love buying the kits. It is so much easier for me - fabrics coordinate, are beautiful and GOOD QUALITY fabric. Discovered the FabricCafe website by accident and LOVE everything I have purchased from her. Recommend the website completely.
I printed this pattern this morning off Pinterest and being more of a visual person was happy to find your tutorial for it. Thanks so much, can’t wait to get my fabric to make this!
Perfect timing for me to find this video! Yesterday I bought two 3-yard bundles to make a quilt for our queen-size bed. I actually didn't know what pattern I would use but knew I could find something. So I went on the Fabric Cafe website and found this free pattern and decided it would look good with my fabric. I'm a pretty new quilter and I thought that would be enough fabric for a queen, so I'm so glad that you mentioned that I'd need THREE bundles to make a quilt that size. Also, I was a little confused about the quilt directions so your clear instructions are very helpful. Now I have to hurry back to the shop and hope that they have one more of that particular fabric bundle.
Thank you so much for this pattern & tutorial. I used this pattern to make a quilt for my 2 oldest Nieces for this past Christmas. So pleased at how they turned out. I asked them at Canadian thanksgiving what their 3 favourite colours were and then went shopping.
Carrie M Hi Carrie, I belong to the St. Catharines Heritage Quilt Guild and we have Community Quilts, and Kindred Spirits in St. Catharines also has a community quilt group. I do Project Smile but they need to be a specific size as it is for children with cancer. Hope this helps you. Doreen
I have a couple baby quilts to make. This will work well for them. I love Kaffe fabrics and this pattern would work well to highlight some of his larger prints. Thank you
Thank you for showing the close up of how to do the binding. I just made a 3-yard quilt from Book 8, and was unsure how to finish with the narrower binding, Great video.
I just found your channel and I'm perusing your videos. I watched this one with interest because I happen to have a 3-yard bundle I purchased from my quilt store along with two of the Fabric Café books by Donna Robertson. Thank you so much for demonstrating this pattern and encouraging us to make one.
Laura, when I saw this title in my feed, I thought, what? It must be a baby quilt. And then I realized you only meant a 3-yard quilt TOP. For those of us on tighter quilting fabric budgets this makes a big difference. HOWEVER, there's no reason I can't use some already purchased fabric from my stash, right? But to be completely accurate, this quilt will need three yards of quilt fabric on the front and three yards on the back. All in all, I'm so happy you introduced us to this 3-yard quilt top concept. And as usual, thanks for the expert instructions; also, thanks Fabric Cafe, for the free pattern!
You are correct! You can make the quilt top, borders and economy binding from 3, one yard cuts. Add 3 more yards for your backing. Enjoy! Donna Robertson www.fabriccafe.com

Thank you for this video! You just made my weekend! I have 6 baby quilts to do over the next few months. I will be using your suggestion of Fabric cafe.
I really love the fabrics and I've always liked Fabric Cafe. I have two of their kits and several of their patterns- bought enough to get a free book of patterns at their booth during the Mid-Atlantic Quilting Show in Hampton, VA. Great booth- I always look forward to visiting. Those fabrics though- really quite wonderful!
Love to watch your videos. Your voice is very calming and inviting and, instruction thorough and to the point. Going to my fabric stash now to look for 3 yards of fabric.
Thank you! My brain works differently and doing the rows and adding one last block seemed like extra work but I guess once you’re making it it makes sense taking those steps. I really enjoy how you explain. Blessings!
SewVeryEasy I see! I just cut my fabric well two of them... because I need it longer I’ll be adding two rows but I’m already liking it. Your video is of so much help, thanks!! Playing it as I cut so I don’t make mistakes because sometimes written patterns don’t register with me 😜😇
Thank you for such precise instructions. Although I am subscribed to 3 other quilting channels, I stumbled across yours and WOW! Thanks again - from a brand new subscriber from Southeast Missouri
Very clear directions. I bought the book and fabric to make a 3 yard quilt, but confused about the cutting directions. Although I’m not making this pattern, the one I plan on making also uses strip piecing, so your tutorial made this clear. Thanks so much for this inspiration.
Thanks for the sew-along. Your ease of teaching helps alleviates the fear of cutting into the fabric and creating the lovely quilt. (Looks like the free quilt pattern is no longer available.) Perhaps I can follow along and type what you say about the pattern. I was looking forward to this one.
