I have enjoyed ALL of your 3-yard quilt tutorials. Yep that's right, all 15 of them. Even if I did watch them out order... I really like your videos. They are fun and not forever long. Thanks so much for these. Blessings to y'all.
I love your choice of colors. Your quilts are always so beautiful. I like how you take a pattern and make it your own. I have made some 3 yard quilts and I love making them. I can't wait to see your next episode. You inspire me to try more quilting.
This is perfect timing because I have this book and am going to make this quilt. I've been collecting fabrics for 3 yard quilts and also all the books in the collection! I need to find fabric for a fish themed fabrics for my only remaing brother for Christmas. I liove you Jimmy Buffet t-shirt. And I LOVE 💘 your patience with your kitty. My kitty was the same way. I eould just take time to give her some love when she needed it.
Love watching you. You are so much fun I also love you doing three yard quilts I also have all books but two think...you make it look great ,easy and enjoyable ....
I sure like this quilt design and the Valentine fabrics. Love the colors of the turtle quilt. Gave me an idea that I could use many designs of theme collections I have for the main fabric (patriotic or Christmas or food) and keep the other two fabrics more of a tonal and consistent throughout. I have two cats. I remember trying to hand mend my coat using a long thread with a cat on my lap. It was like I was dangling a string for the cat....the coat did not get repaired. 🙀
I understand. Oliver has a tendency to walk off with small tools. I find them on the floor nowhere near where they should be. LOL. Thank you for watching and commenting. April
Oh, my gosh. My cat Sunny sprawls on the ironing board (with her head hanging off) at the MOST inconvenient times. You were admirably patient with Gracie when you were so frustrated with the cut. I would have stopped and played with her, too. Thanks for the great instructions. It's just the pattern I need right now.
Hi April! Great job on both quilts. I am working on one now along with my sewing room being torn apart. I have all of Donnas books. Looking forward to seeing more of the patterns come to life.
I Love Fabric Cafe's patterns, so far, have all their books. Their patterns are awesome, very well written. For beginners, use post it notes to mark which fabric is 1,2,3. I too make variances to the patterns, I make the top as specified, then I incorporate ALL the remaining fabrics into the borders. Since I prefer double bindings, I take the fabric allowance for the binding and use them for borders. If I want the top to be bigger, (longer or wider) i buy more of the fabric i want as a border for that reason. Good video.
Thank you for the suggestions - post it notes are a great idea! And I'm with you - love adding borders to make these lovely quilts bigger. I have also thought about using a panel and putting the Fabric Cafe Borders around it. :-). Thank you for watching. April
I'm a fairly new/beginner quilter and have a Donna Robertson's book. Love that the quilts are not complicated or huge. I am about to start this same quilt! My problem? Sorting through my stash of fabrics and finding the perfect 3.
Her books are perfect for quilters just starting their quilting journey. I love her patterns for those very reasons too. It is funny because now when I am looking for fabric - I buy in sets of 3 matching fabrics for her patterns! Thank you for watching. :-) Apirl
I love your fabric choices for the 3 yard quilts. I’ve like the patterns but not the fabric in the author’s examples.I’ll definitely be making some of these now and I’ve also subscribed to your channel. Thank you
I agree with you. I think the fabric used on some examples in the book don't highlight the pattern as much as they could. :-). Thank you for watching. April
I love your quilt and your kitty I just started a 3 yard quilt. Brick Street quilt. My blocks are supposed to be 10 1/2" squares. I messed up somehow on cutting some strips short by 1/8". So I've had to trim all my blocks down to 10 1/4". Also somehow I cut a strip at 11" instead of 10 1/2". I thought I was being so careful. 🤨
Hi Grammy Judy .. I been giving them to Friends / Family and Charity organizations I love to make them and they love to get them... it is a WIN WIN Thanks for watching my video! April
Thanks for the great video! Love the Jimmy Buffett sweatshirt and I think your cat had impeccable timing - she didn't cause the mat to slip, but she was there to comfort you while you were distracted. I started using a hand weight on the opposite end of my ruler when I make long cuts. I've noticed my ruler slips less now. Donna Jordan of Jordan Fabrics does that and its where I picked up that tip. Looking forward to more quilting videos!
Yeah - my cat is a diva. LOL. I have seen Donna Jordan do that and I have a hand weight - I really need to pull it out. Thanks for the tip. :-). Thank you for watching. April
Love your channel. What do you do with all the 3-yard quilts? Are the 3 yard quilts big enough for a full bed size or twin. Can it be made into a queen size?
I give the 3 yard quilts I make away - LOL. I have a long list of family and friends that I want to make a quilt for and then I will give those left over to Project Linus or any other worthy cause collecting quilts. The initial 3 yard quilt is a lap size quilt. There are directions in the books on how to make extra blocks to make the quilts as large as a king size. I usually add borders of coordinating fabric to make mine bigger instead of making additional blocks. Either will work. They are so versatile! Thank you for watching. April
I have used flannel as batting on a rag quilt. I haven’t tried it on a regular quilt. It was definitely easier to work with. I will have to give it a go. Thank you for watching. April
I have one of those tables that has folding sides and is really skinny when you fold it down. Joanns sells a cover for it that is means for ironing. Thank you for watching and commenting. April
May I ask what you end up doing with these “3 fabric” quilts? Seems like you would end up owning alot of the same style of quilt if you kept them all. I enjoyed doing applique quilts, so that each one was unique.
Right now they are in a pile to be quilted, but once they are done I will be giving them to friends and family. And then I plan on donated to charity. I haven't done as much applique as I would like, but it is on my list. Thank you for watching. April
Thank you. Because this pattern is not mine, I cannot share the measurements. They are in the 3 Yard Quilt Book by Donna Robertson. There are links in the description box if you want to purchase the pattern and get the measurements. :-). Thank you for watching. April
The pattern is owned by Donna Robertson who wrote the 3 yard quilt book that the Town Square Pattern is from. I can't give out measurements, but if you buy the book you can follow along with my tutorial. Thank you so much for watching and commenting. April
Thanks for this video. It's very helpful. I have directional fabric that I had previously cut out 1 1/2" larger for a pattern that I had. When I saw your video, I purchased this pattern. Do you know how I can make changes to this pattern to fit my larger block. I cannot cut the blocks down without destroying the image.
So if the block is 10 1/2 you will need a 10 1/2 " strip in fabric 2 for the top and a 10 1/2 " strip of fabric 3 for the bottom. Then you can sew strips of fabric 2 and 3 together each being 5 1/2" making the strip set 10 1/2" wide. Then you can cut that into strips for the sides of the blocks. How did I do? ;-). And I don't know if you wanted the strips around the block to be wider or not.
So I would figure out how much I added to the size of the original square. And what percentage of the size that is. Then widen the fabric 2 and fabric 3 strips by that percentage. So if you made the original square 10% bigger. Than make the fabric 2 and 3 strips that go around the main square 10% wider. Does that make sense?
It would have been useful if u had given the measurements of the pieces u cut, almost every one who watch these videos r new quilters, so disappointed u dint mention the sizes
I am sorry but I cannot include measurements because the pattern is owned by Donna Robertson. If you buy the book referenced in the description below the video you will get all those measurements. I do have a tutorial using a free pattern and I am able to share measurements. Click here to view it ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-ByYr4-MQ23Q.html. And I plan on doing more tutorials using free patterns so I can share the measurements, too. Thank you for watching. April
@@aprilscraftroom thank u for replying immediately,, I live in India, and can't buy yr patterns, they r expensive in Indian standards, if it is around 10 dollars,. It will cost me 700 plus rupees. Try to make your videos with sizes, ul have more people s Watching them and working on them
@@aprilscraftroom thank u so much April story, really liked your reply and concern. Ok il look up Fabric cafe and try some patterns. Till then all the best for your future projects
Focus on an easy one. As a new quilter, look both at the instructions ans the tutorials. They will give you confidence to proceed. I find it helps me to get the process deep in my thought process, and the I’m more confident to proceed. Once you do one , it become two and then three. Happy sewing!!!
Oh my goodness, I so understand your cat relationship!! When I sew I have to put out a faux/cat decoy fabric pile!! Then the kitties leave my actual project alone. Lots of one on one kitty time once I am finished sewing!! Live your videos! Thank you for sharing!
If I can’t do it with a machine I probably don’t do it. LOL. I machine quilt my quilts. I use either my finest machine to straight line quilt or I use my Bernina Q16 to free motion. Thank you for watching and commenting. April
I think I saw you ironing on your cutting mat. I assume it was quickly so it didn't warp. I ask because I am looking high and low for a cutting mat that you can iron on but I don't think it exists.
Hi Vicki - that pattern is from a 3 Yard Quilt book by Donna Robertson. You can purchase her books to get the measurements from Amazon or fabriccafe.com. Thank you for watching. :-) April
